Great vid, great knot, great instructions. But just clarifying 1 thing, the word "octopus" when talking about hooks means bent eye. So an OCTOPUS hook is simply a j hook with a bent eye, while an OCTOPUS circle hook is a circle hook with a bent eye. But the word OCTOPUS only means bent eye. Other than that , great info. ✌️
Completely different than how I tie mine. I must be missing something in this because it just unravels this way. I’m not seeing where there’s a line cinch or crossing through any kind of loop anywhere in this to make it hold? Not to mention the insane line twist this way.
That's the weird thing about the snell knot - there's no visible cinch like you'd see with other knots, because the whole knot is basically the cinch (which is why it's basically a perfect knot). Make sure when you perform your wraps (the whip finish) that you're going around both the main line AND the tag end. If you miss the tag end, it will cause it to unravel when you cinch. I have another tutorial in my Vise Principles series for the Manual Whip Finish technique that might be a better visual demonstration for how the knot is being formed - it might help things to click for you. Check that out and if you don't have an "Ohhhh, that's how it works" moment, let me know and I'll try and figure out another way to help 👍
