Important announcement, anybody fishing for stripers on the east coast will need inline non-offset circle hooks when fishing with bait. They are required by law.
Depends on the condition you are fishing. You don’t always want to use slider for striper or any any fishing. especially rivers, current will pull ur line a lot more with that rig
I'm new to striper Bass fishing if I'm fishing 20 to 30 ft deep what would be the Sinker ounce I should use going and 50 to 70 just giving you an example what would you recommend thanks advance
I'm still confused how the the hook goes on the bottom while the weight is above it. Wouldn't that just sink the hook as well? Especially if we're leaving it in the water? Or is this for reeling it in? Keeping it low on the way back?? Please help. Lol
ByGraceIGo yea you probably have seen the hi-lo striper rig, that is a different way of fishing for stripers that rig is usually for smaller or schoolie sized striped bass.
The idea behind this setup is that the striper takes the bait, and runs with it, and it hooks itself. Hi Lo rigs work also, and yes, will keep your bait off the bottom especially if you are fishing off a pier, but a lot of times the striper will spit the bait out once it feels tension.
a 10/0 hook is a akin to a grouper hook or a kraken hook. Striped bass don't require a 6/0 to 10/0 hook and the kraken is only mythology. A size 2 hook is more appropriate with a 2/0 being bigger than necessary. If you are serious about using a 6/0 - 10/0 hook than you're swivels are too small. You'd want swivels at least twice that size. big hooks catch big fish. little hooks catch all fish
Not true necessarily. Most fisherman by me who fish the ocean surf using bunker use a 6/0 circle hook and up. 30 pound plus stripers can easily shake a 2/0 circle hook.
When bait fishing for striped bass or any fish in general, you should use inline circle hooks. Much higher chance of survival for the fish when using inline circle hooks
Haha the purpose of this rig is to fish bait on the bottom. The sinker being able to slide on the main line allows the bait to swing around freely, while you still hold bottom.
Great video. I subscribed and liked. Pretty close to what I used when I was after a 40 plus inch striper but I hooked a great white shark instead while fishing fom my kayak. Toss me a subscription too, if you like, I only need a couple more to get 1000 :) Cheers
Kids don’t try this at home lol. for striped bass are you kidding? That hook is way wayyy too big and line size your using is over kill. 5 Ounce pyramids? Good luck feeling a bite from anything I don’t use anything above 3oz. Next time try using 20 pound mono line, 3oz sinker, size 4-6 hook with squid or mullet. Keep it simple and use less weight as you can get away with included tackle/terminal
All relative to where you are fishing my guy. Ocean surf conditions can require at times up to 7-8 ounces. Also, if you used 20 pound mono in the surf with bunker you’re almost certainly being bit off by a large bluefish or shark. Use whatever weight is applicable for your conditions, no need to be butt hurt.
