The Caterpillar Sinnet is an elegant rope chain tied with one leading end. The finished product can be used to make bracelets, necklaces or to assist an item that could use an attractive strap of rope.
Oh and, to everyone reading this, people like this gentleman make it possible to *learn* new skills by taking the time out of *their* own lives, to show us how to do it. I think video makers in general, esp. the good, careful ones like this, deserve a LOT of appreciation from us, the general public. Cheers :)
I just made a chain lanyard for my keys using this sinnet. It looks great! Start with a scaffold knot. Pass the loop thru a swivel hook eye and bend it over itself. The knot must be framed by the bended loop, just for the looks. Start the sinnet and when desired lenght is achieved, tie an overhand knot at the end of the cord to keep it inside the sinnet so that it is easy to unravel. Tie a noose on the loop, working end running, just in case the knot slips thru the sinnet. Attach the keyring.
When I was a carpenter, we'd tie our power cords like that for easier carrying and pulling the one cord out, it comes out without any tangles. 100' cord would end up about 30' long.
@FraggerRem - Makes a great way to store very long lengths of extension cord or rope. Won't tangle and is very easy to unravel. I store all of my electrical cords, christmas lights, tow straps and tie down straps this way. Useless it is not.
very cool!! great video! I have been looking for a good video on this knot. i think another name I've heard for this knot is a daisy chain. it also can come unraveled easily if you need it to. thanks *****
Hey Bud, Proportionally, how much single rope do you use for 'x' amount of braided rope please? I'm just trying to work out how much I need to get in the first place, thanks. Great video btw.
1' of cord per inch of bracelet or whatever you're tying is a good starting point. For a 6" long king cobra bracelet, I'll use just over 6' of cord with a buckle.
Hi thank you for the great video, I was wondering when the Bracelet is done how do I tie it off with out having to Burn or fuse it at all. just seems to ruin the look of the bracelet. Thank you again, I am just trying to find a way around having to use a flame. :) :) Have a Great Day. :) :)
You are not making this properly as it should look like a figure of 8 knot in pretzel form which is made with turns it does not start with a slipped overhand knot as that would mean it has a half hitch and if you join the ends you half to undo the half hitch before you can
@FraggerRem Look what is hanging under the snare drums of the Royal Marine Band (and other military bands). That is the only place I see it used to any practical effect.
This looks like a rougher cord than regular paracord, but when you see these paracord videos, they're usually referring to Type III Nylon 550 Paracord. Amazon and eBay are good sources. One vendor I just purchased from is Paracord Planet.
