Where I fish there is not really a dry fly bite very often and when it happens the fish are less than cooperative. This fly right here cures lockjaw. I have so much confidence in this pattern that I never put a dropper under it. I just let the fly be the fly. I went through a dozen over about 10 hours of fishing and none of them are recognizable anymore. This is my favorite dry as it gets munched. I like the mole midge version too. Grey or any dark CDC, with a rusty brown or black body are killers. MASH the barb as they inhale it.
I used it today for the first time after watching this video and tying some up. The fish loved them and I didn't have enough. I only had three moles and they caught 7 wild very picky browns. Is there any substitute for beaver dubbing? Great fly, thanks for sharing Charlie.
