Excellent knew there had to be a better way to find the right tension!! Makes installing belts so much easier!!! Great video!

Yup, this is exactly the method I’ve used for years. No need for any tension specialty tools either, just turn the belt 90 degrees, no less no more and you’re good to go. Great video!

Excellent clear concise demonstration of how to properly torque a drivebelt. Perfect natural lighting which showed the process clearly. 👍🏼 Thanks for demonstrating what 90 degrees looks like as well. Very detailed!

My belt has non stop squeking noise so i just tighten it all the way, till 45 degrees. So far no problems. But before non stop squeking till it wacked my alternator bearings, as my alternator was already old. changed a new one, tighten it wall the way. If its too loose it will vibrate and cause damage to the bearings as well. The previous mechanic tighten it even more and it was fine till i changed the belt myself to 90 degrees. then it messed up the alternator. i dont think i can agree with this, maybe all cars are different. Your best best is to put a marking on the initial set up before opening it up. My car is a Daihatsu. Also the tool that i can fit inside is only a 1/4 inch rachet, so i know it wont really over torque, but its definitely wont be 90 degrees.
@gamersanonymous4me131

same here. Tightened it to 90 deg belt movement, and it worked most of the time but still squeeled other times, loosened the nut, and with it running gave it another a full turn (stopped sqeeling while running) and gave it another 1/2 turn and then tightened the nut to set it permanently (belt was about 45 deg bend). Never had a belt that acted like this one (96 Maxima) before and always afraid of over tightening it, but cannot live with the squeel. I've replaced multiple belts (never broke one) and they all squeel unless super tightened.

Thank you for your video. I recently replaced the alternator on my car and now I'm getting a loud squeal from a belt or a pulley on cold startup. Using the information I saw here I'm going to be checking my belt tomorrow. Thank you.

This style of adjustment uses an adjustable bolt and nut that puts pressure on the tensioner wheel, so screwing the nut raised and lowers the large tensioner wheel (on a large bearing that the serpentine goes around) then uses a nut to tighten the position where its set to make it not move.

@gamersanonymous4me131
@gamersanonymous4me131 Год назад
@@susangordon9351 And...you have to loosen the nut that secures the position of the roller/wheel before screwing the long bolt in or out to adjust tension or you will strip out the tensioning bolt.

My drive belt which is notched "V" will not tighten on my 2002 Nisan Frontier 4 cylinder. The travel distance on the mechanical tensioner has no travel distance remaining. This is the second belt I have used so I know he size of the belt is correct. The belt drives the water pump and I can easily turn the belt 180 degrees meaning it is too lose by your measure. Any other ideas to take the slack out of the belt?

Thanks for this. but....can you explain how this will work consistently when for example, you have a belt that only has a 5 or 6 inch gap(about 12 inches between pulley axis)..compared to a belt with...like your with a 14 or greater gap? It doesn't appear my small belt will turn 90%...the pulleys are just TOO Close and the belts are not able to turn that much. What am I doing wrong?
@baileyrutherford9002
@baileyrutherford9002 5 месяцев назад
You aren't doing anything wrong, this is a great approximation for how tight a belt should be. If you do enough of them you'll get a feel for it.

Over tightness of belt can cause engine missing..right..?
@tylermalone8040
@tylermalone8040 3 года назад
No, it won't affect how the engine is firing, but an improperly tensioned belt could cause high coolant temps, ac problems, and battery charge problems.
@tylermalone8040
@tylermalone8040 3 года назад
If your engine is missing, I'd start by looking at the simplest things. That'd be sparkplugs, coil packs, or inline fuel filter(if your vehicle has one).
@arabianwaves3775
@arabianwaves3775 3 года назад
@@tylermalone8040 yes. it's due to unusual over tightness of belt ..I just slightly loosen the belt and it came back normal.. thank you
