Great tips, a laser level and horseshoe spacers are a definite must for installing wall tile.

Couldn't agree more, they make it much better. Which laser level do you like?

I have a Makita red laser level, it worked great for installing subway tile for my tub surround area. I also used the same horseshoe spacers that Steve was using.

@@teh60 haven't used their lasers yet but if you liked it we'll check one out. Those horseshoe shims are the best

Ok I’m a plumbing contractor by trade. I don’t normally tile as it’s not my expertise. My son bought a home and our tile guy directed us on the wallboard install. He was to come back and waterproof with red guard and then do the tile. Very sadly he had a freak accident and passed away. My son and I have chosen to tackle this now ourselves as several of the other tile people we work around are all booked up and we’re trying to get him moved into his home. We have a niche that we will be tiling. We are using 4x16 subway tile. Also doing the ceiling. I installed the new tub which is spot on level in all directions. How to we know the tile starting point. Do we measure from the bottom of niche to try and keep a full tile to that point? Obviously not wanting a sliver or less than 1/2 a tile at bottom. Thanks!

Great video, incredible tips, thank you for posting. Tip #6 is critical! Curious why you didn't use the Tuscan Seamclips on this install?

For the expansion gap allowance between the tub and the first row of tiles, is that a 1/16” horseshoe spacer? Thanks!

Maybe I missed it, but what do you guys do in the corner between the tiles? Is it grouted or do you caulk it to allow for movement?

Do you have to use laticrete thinset when installing tiles? Or can I use a thinset from another brand, if so what thinset would you say is comparable to the laticrete

What product would you suggest to fill that 1/8 gap between tile and ceiling. Workers just grouted and continually cracks. Would a colour matched silicone or something similar work? What’s odd is the other 2 shower walls, above the shower head and niche, on opposite wall are fine?..

What spacing are you using between in horizontal direction? It appear you do not shoe any 1/8" spacers there.

Hello, thank u guys for helping the DIY, so , I have seen other videos, but Im not clear about the leveling around the bathtub, you mentioned a gap between the tub and the first row of tile, because of contraction, shoul I cut the tile in half, then the spacer ? thats it? what about the unlevel or pendient of the bathtub?

is there space needed from one wall to the other? the 90 degree? can the tile touch or does there need to be a space?

On the back wall you talked of expansion in the corners. When you installed the side walls did you cut tile flush or leave a gap for expansion?
@HomeRepairTutor
@HomeRepairTutor 5 лет назад
We still leave a 1/16" to 1/8" expansion and contraction joint between adjacent tile walls

Do you find the center on each wall and work your way out and in or just on the main wall, making sure the length of the tiles in the corners equal the length of a single tile?

Good question . Was hoping for an answer as well . I would assume wherever the cut hits you pick up with a full piece on the next wall .

youre not suppose to but any backer board against the tub lip. where water can sit. and wick into the board. thats why they have flanges.

The backer board used in this video cannot wick water. An advantage to using the new foam boards. Completely water proof.

You screwed up already. You don't have a waterproff membrane. You don't need to back butter. That add to much mortar..

Are you serious? Which part of the latticrete products are not waterproof? And who doesn't back butter?
