I have a Makita red laser level, it worked great for installing subway tile for my tub surround area. I also used the same horseshoe spacers that Steve was using.
Ok I’m a plumbing contractor by trade. I don’t normally tile as it’s not my expertise. My son bought a home and our tile guy directed us on the wallboard install. He was to come back and waterproof with red guard and then do the tile. Very sadly he had a freak accident and passed away. My son and I have chosen to tackle this now ourselves as several of the other tile people we work around are all booked up and we’re trying to get him moved into his home. We have a niche that we will be tiling. We are using 4x16 subway tile. Also doing the ceiling. I installed the new tub which is spot on level in all directions. How to we know the tile starting point. Do we measure from the bottom of niche to try and keep a full tile to that point? Obviously not wanting a sliver or less than 1/2 a tile at bottom. Thanks!
do you have any tutorials installing cement board using hardiebacker and a waterproof membrane? I want a budget friendly option as Schluter is too expensive
Do you have to use laticrete thinset when installing tiles? Or can I use a thinset from another brand, if so what thinset would you say is comparable to the laticrete
What product would you suggest to fill that 1/8 gap between tile and ceiling. Workers just grouted and continually cracks. Would a colour matched silicone or something similar work? What’s odd is the other 2 shower walls, above the shower head and niche, on opposite wall are fine?..
Hello, thank u guys for helping the DIY, so , I have seen other videos, but Im not clear about the leveling around the bathtub, you mentioned a gap between the tub and the first row of tile, because of contraction, shoul I cut the tile in half, then the spacer ? thats it? what about the unlevel or pendient of the bathtub?
Do you find the center on each wall and work your way out and in or just on the main wall, making sure the length of the tiles in the corners equal the length of a single tile?
