Cool video! So do the plant materials need to be dry for the tinctures? I just watched another video about it and the guy it’s ideal that they are close to fully dried. Thanks!

hmm, I see oakmoss in vancouver all the time, I grab some and rubbed it between my fingers, but I really don't get much scent out of it! it's sort of rubbery earthy green but extremely faint! is this the case for your oakmoss, does the scent develop and grow stronger over time?

The oakmoss I bought was very pungent. It has an extremely masculine smell. Perhaps put some in an air tight bag and then open the bag up after a couple of days and smell inside.

I had the same experience. After reading about oak moss, I found some on a hike. I was disappointed because fresh ..it smelled nothing like a perfume ingredient. But ...months later I opened the jar I packed full and took a Whif and a huge smile grew on my face! It smelled amazing ! Deep fresh and woody all at the same time. Just blended it dry & tinctured it tonight 😊

Is there a certain type of ethanol needed?
@scentuality3377
@scentuality3377 4 года назад
If you intend to make perfume with the tinctures you either need perfumers alcohol or a 96% proof Ethanol, but not the nasty stuff that contains extra ingredients in order to give the Ethanol a more perfumed smell.

How did the oakmoss tincture turn out?
@scentuality3377
@scentuality3377 4 года назад
The Oakmoss worked well, though I left it for a total of eight weeks instead of four. The tincture smells a lot like Oakmoss absolute.

@@scentuality3377 Awesome! So how do you use it to make cologne? Just made my first cologne with essential oils, alcohol, and water. So I'm guessing I'd just replace a certain amount of the alcohol in that recipe with the tincture?
@scentuality3377
@scentuality3377 4 года назад
@@fe3613 Yes, precisely. Use it like you use an oil and account for the alcohol when diluting, though a few drops more of alcohol won't change anything significantly.

@@scentuality3377 Exciting, can't wait to try this. Been using 2 parts cedarwood, 1 part patchouli which has been great, but could benefit from oakmoss I believe. Thanks for the video and replies!

Is it ok to substitute the ethanol with carrier oil? Will the scent be the same? Which one is better? Please kindly reply

For a tincture you need ethanol.

@@scentuality3377 but can i just infused my carrier oil with some extracts powder sir? Will it carry on the scent?
@scentuality3377
@scentuality3377 4 года назад
@@naddeytallanou The tinctures I made from Lavender, Oakmoss and Iris Root were for the purpose of making ethanol-based perfume. So I use my tinctures in conjunction with Essential Oils and Aroma Chemicals, but if you just want to infuse your oil and use your oil as a perfume, I'm sure the Lavender will have some effect since its so pungent, but it won't work the same as ethanol.
