How to tow a Jeep Wrangler with large tires on a U-Haul Auto Transport Trailer 

Nice video! Couple of suggestions: Attach the strap hooks to the rod connector BEFORE loading your equipment/truck/jeep. Then lay the rest of the strap on the deck behind where the tire is going to be. This will eliminate the need to swap the protective sleeve around like he had to do. Next, after you thread the loose end of the strap though the ratchet slot and pull the loose end taught, pull a few inches of slack back through the slot toward the tire before you start ratcheting it tight. This will allow the ratchet spindle to wrap more of the strap around itself before it meets resistance providing a positive/stronger grip on the strap and making it MUCH more secure and resistant to slippage back through the spindle slot. Many times a driver does not do this one little step and they end up with a loose strap flapping in the wind and often getting damaged after running over it with the trailer tire. Usually the strap is useless after that and you will be calling Roadside Assistance for help which can generally take several hours or more. (It doesn't hurt to purchase an extra set as a back up for just such an occasion. If you don't use them, U-Haul will probably take them back. Meanwhile, you have a little extra peace of mind knowing you are prepared.) Failed straps are one of the most common callouts for these types of trailers and also the Tow Dollies and it's usually because the straps weren't cinched correctly. Another thing, when you are getting the extra insurance coverage that U-Haul offers, make SURE to ask them for SAFETRIP coverage in addition to any others for ANY type of U-Haul equipment that you rent. It is probably the most used insurance they offer and for the extra $5-7 that it costs it will pay for itself 30-50 times over if you need it. This coverage tends to be the most overlooked coverage and possibly the most frequently needed. ( I'm not going to tell you how I know this but I see it happen literally EVERYDAY when a customer needs assistance and doesn't have the coverage that they THOUGHT they were purchasing and has to dig deep into their own pocket.) And lastly, (yea, this is a lot to read but the extra minute it takes you to read it will be much appreciated when you do and end up avoiding a situation that can cost you not only financially but might even save your life.) ALWAYS INSPECT THE EQUIPMENT BEFORE YOU DRIVE IT OFF THE LOT!!! Since this is a trailer video, among other things, don't forget to always inspect all of the straps and chains for damaged or missing parts. Do not accept any equipment with damaged or frayed straps - PERIOD! Make sure they have the proper number and are the proper length and no frayed ends. And if the chains show any sign of drag damage or are missing the rubber devices that secure the hooks in place after they are hooked (some now have special clips made onto the hooks) ask them to repair or replace BEFORE you accept it or drive it off the lot. These are just a few suggestions that I have. Most people won't read this far but if you are the one that does, you won't regret it

I’ve rented uhaul trailers to haul my jeep and then I purchased a used uhaul trailer. I prefer using endless loop tie down straps over the axles front and rear instead of the over the tire straps.

For anyone asking about if the stock straps will fit 33's... I had to get the oversized tire straps for my TJ that has 33" BGF KO2s. They were already aired down a good bit and the stock straps still weren't going to work... so if you have 33's, I strongly suggest also getting the oversized tire straps when getting the U-Haul auto transport trailer.

I have the same setup. 2019 v8 ram. What sort of mpg do you get? One thing I have done is criss-cross ratchet straps to bumpers…reduce amount of suspension bounce And yes, a 4 door fits…barely. I did it with jku on 37s

Do you know how many inches wide is your jeep? It says the trailer is 79.25 inches and my truck is 77 with my tires. Hoping to barely squeeze in there

With your Jeep so far forward passed the axles, are you concerned at all that the tongue weight has overloaded your Ram truck rear end and lifting our front end? Too much tongue weight or force on the hitch/tow ball could overload the rear tires of the towing vehicle, pushing the rear end of the vehicle around. This could negatively affect the vehicle steering/handling because your front end is lifted. Performance is impaired as you might not be able to turn corners and curves properly, and your vehicle may not stop quickly enough when you press the brake pedal (because most of your braking power comes from your front brakes). Your tongue weight should come in between 10% and 15% of the total weight of your loaded trailer, also known as your Gross Trailer Weight (GTW)
