Updated tutorial 2023 Once again I saw that there aren't a lot of new or updated tutorials for this emulator Hope this helps If you like the content your seeing, Subscribe! #pokemon , #emulator , #visualboyadvance
My experience with this on the Virtualboy M 2.1.6 is that when you create and join the server, it allocates one device as "player 1" and the one that joined as "player 2". Once you trade and then save on each game while the connection is still active it will NOT replace your previous save-file when saved like normal. It creates new saves for "player 1" and "2". If you want to continue from the save after the trade took place when you reload Virtualboy you must look in the folder where the saves are stored - alongside the ROM file, look for the "SAV File" with "-1" or "-2" at the end depending on who was player 1 or 2 and that will be the save from after the trade took place. Look for the save with the most recent date changed and that will likely be the one. Remove the old save that does not have a "-1" or "-2" at the end and then remove the dash and number from the updated save. Then Virtualboy will load and save onto this file like normal, future times its loaded. Alternatively be cheeky and use the save from before you traded and keep your rare traded 'mons on both games.... hope this helps someone.
If you run into the “sorry unable to connect restart etc” issue it’s because you need to toggle off the “speed hack” button. Then after if you get a communication error when entering the room what you need to do is toggle on -input -allow keyboard background input, on one of the screens and use the other screen at the same time. The emulator doesn’t like it when you switch between them! I recommend lining the Pokemon up you want to trade in your respective parties before hand! Took me like two hours to get that figured out but we did it folks!
wow kid, you did a great job here. i don't even know how to make a video recording myself and on the computer and you got it down real good. you gonna do great in life! lol pokemon ftw!
I got nicve xbox one controller for pc. You click xbox button or alt+windows+g and you just start recording high quality desktop and gaming videos. :P I prefer that kinda controller. Good to play Dolphin emulator and gamecube/wii games. And so on.
Very helpful video! Well done! This helped us trade Gravelers in Pokemon Emerald to evolve them for a Soul Link Nuzlocke we are working on! Thank you!!
I found a solution: OPTIONS > INPUT > ALLOW BACKGROUND INPUT That helped me move both windows at the same time (like in the video), and suddenly it worked. Also, don't speed up, my game crashed like 5 times before it worked. And place the pokemons you want to trade in the first spot, so you don't have to move around while sending some input to both windows.
I also had to add one more step: the new save file has the wrong name so it won't be recognized as the latest one. Change the name by deleting "-2". I moved the old save file to another folder.
I was a little sceptical listening to a kids voice. But, this tutorial was superb. With this tutorial the link connection worked without a problem. Keep on your good work!
Only thing could have made it better is if you’d of turned down the game music, great job kid. I’ve watched about 6 others made by adults and none of their methods worked but you went into much better usage of the softwares tools so fingers crossed this method will work. Thank you!
I will hold this video close to my heart, always. Thanks to this I managed to evolve my Kadabra into Alakazam and my Graveler into Golem. Thank you so much!
For those who had problems like me (on firered/leafgreen) where it would say that the Pokémon trading centre is “currently under maintenance”, it could be because you haven’t obtained 2 Pokémon and the Pokédex yet, which are required to be able to trade. I was trying to give myself all 3 starters so I rushed straight to the centre, and because of that it wouldn’t let me trade. Caught a couple random Pokémon and claimed the Pokédex by talking to the shopkeeper and delivering the package to professor oak and now it works fine.
@@jimbo899 yeah it worked well, I started last night when I initially commented but I’m already on the 4th gym of fire red and all the starters just evolved into charizard, blastoise, and venasaur
As He said, you must come as a child lol and I thank you kind sir for helping this old fart recapture his childhood. You helped, not directly, in solving my issue, but watching your screencap did assist in me figuring it out. Be easy, breezy lol
Muito obrigado mano eu sei que voce nao vai entender nada do que eu vou falar, porem muito obrigado, eu baixei esse emulador e nao sabia que era mais simples e diferente dos outros que usamos aqui.
I'm playing on the original Red and Green and I set link cable emulator to Gameboy, am using the latest version of the emulator, and it still won't let me trade when I talk to the cable club lady. She tellls me "This area is reserved for two friends who are linked by cable." Somebody please help. Edit: It works on Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, but not on Pokemon Red and Green. Somebody please help me.
I can't control both games at the same time, even with the option "pause when inactive" disabled. Only the active window is controllable, the other one (not paused) is not receiving any commands =(
hello i just want to give some insight: first of all if you started a playthrough in singleplayer your save will look like this: [insert rom name].sav. if you started in multiplayer it will look like this: [insert rom name]-[wich player you are from 1 - 4].sav. Example: with a rom called "pokemon ruby" it looks like this in singleplayer: pokemon ruby.sav but if you started it in multiplayer with player one it looks like this: pokemon ruby-1.sav. this is important because you can start local multiplayer with wireless adapter instead of cable if you want to play the berry crush minigame too. so if you want to do all that change the settings to emulation -> link -> type -> wireless adapter and emulation-> link -> local mode. Afterwards make sure your first file is called something like pokemon ruby-1.sav and your file on player two is called something like pokemon saphire-2.sav so vba can load them correctly. hope that helped the 2 people that actually want to play that button masher game :D. Have a great one
Does anyone know if this method also works for Red/Blue/Yellow or if there's something extra you have to do? I just set it up exactly like in the tutorial but in game, the ladies at the counter in the PC still say "this area is reserved for two friends connected via link cable" and won't initiate a trade (even though I get the message on the screen saying I'm connected)
I have version M2.1.6 and followed your instructions. After the players enter the room and make a swap I get an error you have a problem with a cable and the emulator needs to be restarted.
Yo bro, I'm on macOS and I have no idea how to open two games at the same time. I could do it on the older version but the newer versions I cant figure out, got any ideas?
Make a copy of visual boy advanced then you should be able to load one game from the original file. Then the second game from the copy. Hope this helps!
I don't understand why I can't get them to use different keys though. I've already set the buttons for Player 2 but the instance clearly labelled as Player 2 is not using it. It kinda sucks since when background keyboard is enable, pressing the same keys would trigger both windows. I've found no$gba to be faster and easier to use and yes, I've used those for the berry blender and secret bases years ago. I'm playing Emerald again and the only problem is the .SAV written by no$gba can't be read by GBA emulators on Android. So now I'm trying to use VisualBoy.
OK so what I did is just for Player 2 window, I just set a different set keys but on the Player 1 side . I've managed to link them but now it's saying link error so we never get to go inside the trade room...
@@nunyabiznes33 You could need a Newer Version, or you could try this. Go to Options > Emulator > Save Type, make sure you mark "Automatic" and "Flash 64K" on BOTH the emulators. Make sure your not pressing the Turbo key while trading.
It could be the version I am using (For RetroAchievements) but I experienced various issues trying to start the server. First few times it gave me a vague error, then it was just trying to start it indefinitely. Any ideas?
Disable "Pause when inactive window" only if it has a check mark next to it, do this for both windows before you start the link. If this doesn't work try getting a newer version of the emulator.
you need to make sure the link tybe is "Game Boy" , its set as "nothing" as standard, if you set i to game boy the start network link option opens@@SirKlobuerste
So I went to do this and I had trouble, but luckily, I could use Pokemon Stadium via Simple64 and that worked amazingly well, you just need to configure controllers eg. 2 and 3 to have transfer paks, then use controller 1 and it lets you trade anything, its really effortless, a bit easier than this... Of course, that won't work for Gen 3 I realise, anyway. Gen 1 and 2 I suppose via Stadium 1 and 2 respectively.
tried this with gold and silver and managed to link up and all but then after getting to "please wait" with the trading lady the game kept saying "your friend is not ready". what am i doing wrong? im suspecting that the confirmation menu is different? so maybe i have to press something in order to confirm while it says "please wait"? can someone help? :(
@@Chrissywissy247 Make a copy of visual boy advanced then you should be able to load one game from the original file. Then the second game from the copy. Hope this helps!
I'm trying to figure out you're able to control both games at the same time. Let's say i hit the Spacebar (which i configured to the start button), but it only does it for the selected game, but not the other one. Is there a way to fix that, thanks
I use emerald and fire red and when I'm about to trade it says "we're not set up to conduct trades with trainers far away in another region" ho do you fix this
So after trading these pokemon from fire red to leaf green and from leaf green to fire red, I saved both games but when I close the games afterwards, it did not save and the trades apparently did not happen. What am I doing wrong? Normally I am playing with the normal VBA but for this trade I used VBA-M (current version)
@@maasghanistansfinest6321 Yes. But I dont remember correctly. I think it saves the game as a different file. So the save file that you normally have stays the same and when you use this other Emulator it creates another save file
I wish to do this on Silver, Gold and Crystal coz like I wanna evolve poliwhirl to Politoad coz in crystal u can find King's Rock and I would also wanna evolve graveler, haunter and Machoke. So if there any way to do it over crystal I would be very happy.
I am playing Crystal rn too and wanna trade my Onix to get a steelix… maybe gengar at some point too but I like her as a haunter for now. If u find a way to trade w crystal on vba lmk
hey I'm confused how you get to this step... when I try to open two games at once it won't allow me. how do I get both games going at once? I'm playing on Mac
Ive gotten the furthest with this video so far, ive connected to the network, but when i talk to the lady it keeps me waiting and it doesnt connect, no idea why, using VBA M 2.1.8.
Ok what version do you have because I got the latest version and apparently that link is not the same and for me I tried trading on a ROM hack and it froze I can't even get it to work I'm terribly frustrated because nothing is working
