I have been using thisas a handy reference book ru-vid.comUgkxGQVgV21bQ7B9b9duQ1ByImyT9xHbjOKq . I read through the book and enjoyed the little glimpses of examples. I love that this author believes in rescue dogs. The tips and training has been invaluable and gave me moments of.... "how simple why didn't i think of it" so it's been a great tool. Thank you!
jaz brown a good way to get rid of that behavior is to withhold attention until they sit or lay down. My dogs have learned to sit before getting attention, eating, or going outside.
Training can really take it out of you, but the end results are worth it. Honestly, trying to train a mischievous dog is very difficult, but also rewarding once you get to establish a good rapport. We once had a difficult dog but with perseverance (a couple of months and tons of treats) we managed to finally train our dog and it's very, very rewarding. Just be consistent and keep training!
*SUGGESTION:* Consider simply saying "sit" without preceding it with their name. In other word, do not say their name in conjunction to the command. Also try not to speak at all when rewarding a dog with a treat because just as you pointed out, a dog should not always require the treat or praise with the exception of periodic/annual reinforcement. *_GREAT VIDEOS!_*
I think using the dogs name helps the name become a buzzword that marks attention for the dog. You just have to use the name with all tricks. Then do the tricks without the name to separate it. Teaching a dog its name is important.
This was great, thanks, I've been looking for "how can i become a dog trainer uk" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Cidlerna Barking Banisher - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my work buddy got excellent success with it.
@@arsh1357 She's grown up to be an excellent dog, the best trained dog I've ever had, she runs to me on command, doesn't jump up on us, want take food until we tell her. Best dog we ever had. We watched these videos, cesar milan and stoney ridge I believe. Thanks for asking about her
@@julmariebolotaolo3463A mixture of this Cesar Milan, and Stoney ridge worked for our pup and she's fixing to be 5! Like I said in previous comment, she's turned out to be the best, most well trained dog I ever had, I was pretty consistent in her training. Glad to have all these diy training 👍
I have to say I know this is a six-year-old post I still wanted to comment on your technique. We both pretty much do our training the same way. I have never been a fan of the clicker movement or a treat for every time they do something right. I've been doing Shepherd rescue for over 20 years and in that time I have been given the pleasure to get free training from a lot of different organizations. I have trained with three different law enforcement agencies and the department of correction. Also dozens of public trainers who wanted an endorsement and free advertising on our webpage. I'm very big on hand commands. Whenever I take in a foster I will test them to see where they're at. I used to have a great helper. She was my first German Shepherd that I rescued as a puppy. And the reason she was turned over is that the original owner was a teenage girl and could not or want to teach her how to behave. Whenever I would have a foster who might have been afraid my baby girl who was the alpha after me what pick up my fosters signs of being afraid. She would jump right in there and walk right beside them off leash and normally after a week they would have their confidence. Whenever I see somebody that only treat trains their babies I always ask them what will you do if you run out of treats? Most of them have the same answer that they won't run out. I guess they have a magic bag that never runs empty. I just prefer getting them to hand commands faster. Ever after kids were younger all of us would take walks with all of our babies sometimes it could be as many as six to eight. My boys learned early how to handle German shepherds that weigh them at that time. And when one would stop and set all of them would. We even have a nickname in our neighborhood. They call us the German Shepherd house the safest house in the neighborhood. I enjoyed your video and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good trainer online.
I am so happy that I came across your videos. I've had my new puppy for two weeks (he's a German Shepherd/Siberian husky) & I'm having a hard time with him biting & barking. I know he's a baby though so I'm being patient. Thank you for the amazing vids. I'm excited to study them 😊
I went back here after trying this method to my 8 weeks old doberman and it worked! Thank you so much!!! To those who are struggling do not give up and be patient with your dog ❤
just tried this with my 9 week old german shepherd puppy and only had to do the over his head part twice then he was sitting as soon as i said it! and I've only had him for 5 days! definitely going to carry on training him with the help of your videos! :)
Thank you so much! I definitely need this! My German Shepard just had 8 puppies a couple days ago, so now I will be prepared to train them when the time comes.
I have a two-month-old puppy, and I accidentally saw your videos, a nice, beautiful woman. I liked your style. I will try to follow your instructions to teach my little dog .. Thank you very much for your efforts. You are beautiful.
I just got a German Shepard and he is a puppy. I just got him today maybe 30 minutes ago :D I'm so excited to learn from this video to train my dog. My dogs name is ollie💕
It's Lau because he's confused. You are accepting the biting behaviour, which is making is a game. You want to play the "sit" game, and he wants to play the "bite" game, for example. when he bites you, yelp or yell loudly and then turn away from him, walk away and ignore him for 1 full minute. This is pretty much the worst punishment for a young dog. after a minute, carry on playing the game, and teach "sit" from the beginning of this video
just leave the treat in your palm and make a fist and leave it in the middle of the air while he goes crazy. don’t smile or anything just stay quiet and stay there till he calms down. once he stops biting open your hand and say “good”
you need to train your dog to calm down first before training him to do anything else. it takes time but it’ll work. and don’t yell or hit him. just stop everything when he starts acting out of hand. and he will know that if he goes crazy then you won’t wanna play so he’s gonna calm down
Thanks! We are working on training our German shephard puppy to Sit, stay , shake, halt, and to go to a certain spot when we say a specific word. Like if we say ''Red!'' he will go by the kitchen table. Like that. Thanks again :P
I have been watching dog training videos all day! Most of them are long & boring with a lot of personal stories and not enough information. I enjoyed your video very much. Especially your professionalism. I'm sending the link to my brother who adopted a stray GS & needs to train her.

I have a puppy and he wont obey me. He will sometimes but I tried everything and all he does is look at me like I have lobsters coming out of my ears. He is only 3 months old and he is a good boy sometimes. What age should I start training him and how do I make him obey me? Please help?
You are the best because I am working as dog trainer and I have to train a German shepherd pups and they are really playful so it really hard to train(because I am kid and I started to train dogs at my auntie house when I was 7 years old until now)
ive been reading up recently and seems alot of trainers are more in favor of rewarding the dogs success rather than forcing them to do something. you ignore a mistake, and praise the hell out of success.
My dog is starting to obey but when she sits she won't get back up and when I move she gets back up but sometimes she won't follow me sometimes she also walks away like she loses interest any help?
Oh my god i have 4 adult dogs (one of them is rescued) and 3 puppies and I'm losing my mind cause they are so excited and i can't control them. Here i am.
this was such a helpful video my new puppy I got yesterday/21st of September is only 2months old and I watched this video and I did it for a full half and hour with him and he is sitting down great now!! my dogs name is Alfie his breed is: laha apsual cross shitzoo
Great video!! I watched it at the end of last year when I had just adopted a puppy that belonged to my father, he was 9 months old and messed up a lot, after I started to apply some things from his video it improved a lot !!. I got interested and even bought a cheap course on the internet that teaches a little more about how to train different types of dogs. Now we have spent quality time with him as a family, I recommend it highly.
I have a german shepherd and i did exactly as she did.first the dog was jumpin but he got calmed down and it work I finally got to make him sit and I'm 14
