How to train a young magpie, and teach the baby Australian magpies to trust and feed from you by hand. Queensland magpies have slightly different feather markings than in southern states, but the magpie behaviour is the same as other Australian magpies.

Great video Steve...lov the Magpie family...magpies are the Lovable Black Birds of Australia & comical at times too...I know our maggies are..Today they are playing in the sprinkler ...40 degrees here. 😃

I havnt fed magpies by hand but there is a mum and dad and 2 kids that come to my yard frequently, they get a few bits and pieces I throw to them. They literally come to my backdoor and squwak to get my attention.

Nice...They WILL feed from your hand, if you put in just a little time for them to learn to trust you. Yes; they travel with their immediate family members - the 'babies' drive you (and their parents!) mad with the 'crying' for food, which no doubt is them saying "I'm hungry, and can't feed myself!" (which is rubbish)...But that's kids for you! 😆😋🙂

Wildlife is Australia is amazing. All the animals seem bigger than their counterparts in the UK! Your magpies are so much bigger with bigger feathers. Ones in the UK are slightly more contrasted in colour

When I was doing security up on the Sunshine Coast looking after a display village overnight, I had a whole family of magpies great me each day when I drove up. They were all interested in what my dinner was that night and how much they could get from me.

Now you know what it's like to have kids. This is exactly what ours were like. Noisy, needy, and a complete joy...most of the time. 😊 How can a person not love this kind of interaction with natures creatures. Quite a bit better than can be said for the majority of our peers...present company excepted. 😉

New Pie is a great name for the not so little one. Love how you can hand feed them. They have different markings than the Pies we have here in USA. Now I am going to go down the internet rabbit hole looking at all the different varieties.

Oh yes; I've discovered also, that every countries 'Magpies' can be VASTLY different in appearance, size etc! As the text overlay said toward the end; even south of my state, magpies have different markings (although otherwise identical). YEP: I should be quite well known for my 'very original' naming of pets that have come and gone!! 😅😜😊❤

For the life of me I can't imagine how you can tell one from the other enough to name them, much less be able to identify one by name after the changes they go through. Amazing. BTW I learned this helpful hint when I was in elementary school. .Call out 'here mum', if she comes, that's the mum. ..Call out 'here dad', if he comes, that's the dad. ...Call out 'here dad', if she comes, they're married.
