1. Football is a sport where being less athletic doesn't equal you to being a bad player. 2. What you do > How you do it. 3. Itelligence > Technical ability > Fitness > Athleticism. 4. Thomas Muller for example is good not because of his athleticism although it plays a part, his greatest strength is his spacial awareness. 5. Pick up games or playing football matches in general are the best way to improve your football intelligence, Make your practice as game like as possible.
you can get a VR Headset and train in it. It will give you a pro-like vision. No cap. Odeegard uses it. VR is the best at simulating the real world. Nothing has come close in my experience, no matter the domain, even skills like public speaking can be sharpened via VR headset simulations.
Your understanding of your job in your position and the physics of the game is way more important than athleticism or knowing cool skills and tricks. That’s why so many older players like Modric can still hold up in today’s game
I agree with the sentiment of the video but Messi is athletic... in the sens that he's super quick on his feet, very agile and strong. If would've survived all the physical punishment he went through.
Most of the people who qualify for the tag of the greatest player of all time (messi being one of them), like Pele, Matthaus, all of them were, in some way, physically special. Not dominant, but special, somethign which made them more unique and something that made them utilize their body to the greatest extent possible
The athleticism is in the movements to dribble and stop, start, just being a good sprinter or physically strong isn’t dynamic enough. You need to be more like a gymnast, which isn’t dominated by NFL builds anyway 😅
Wais football states “play games” . If I understood wais means play in any opportunity and apply the “lessons “ you feel you need to work on within the game itself. Instead of just practicing against a cone (which is good but not best ) try same practice drills; moves; passes, against a “moving cone” aka a friend, parent, coach, player. The random levels of the opponent will teach you what will work and when not to use it(the new skill). Always be practicing good habits. I hope this helps ✌🏻
I disagree with your point of what you do vs how you do it. Even in the example you provided, where you you receive the ball defines how you receive the ball. The what is receiving the ball, the how is the technical and mental application that creates styles and shows intelligence. In football, the basic principles and physical movements are few. It is in exploring how we do them that we create nuance and develop the game further. Additionally, I think we should be careful of biasing towards the development of "football intelligence" and through this bias disregard the development of players who might be more physically inclinded. It would be quite unintelligent of us to create curriculums and standards of play that reject players who play the game with more physicality, as their natural phyiscal strengths provide another style of play to help propel the game forward. Instead, we should consciously look to marry a player's phyiscal gifts with "football intelligence", helping them understand how to leverage their physical qualities. Mbappe's speed is useless if he doesn't use it intelligently, yes. However, Mbappe's speed is also useless if poor coaching philosophies discourage him from developing his speed in the name of subjective doctrine that only praises technical and tactical play and overlooks the development of phyiscally-gifted players. Bear in mind, this is all coming from a guy who weighs 150 lbs soaking wet and gets knocked off the ball like a crumb off a dirty table. I am forced to play the game 2-3 steps ahead and with technical quality because of my phyiscal nature, but I find trouble with having a self-righteous attitude towards developing "intelligent footballers".
how do i contact you my man? the way you see this game very similar to i 🤝🏽 i have some more content ideas 🤔 maybe we could do some work together? 🤷🏽♂️
To say athleticism isn't that important is simply not true. Messi the greatest player possibly of all time and CR7 the only other player who could Messi a run for his money were both world class athletes. It does matter. And it matters a lot depending on your position.
