Today we talk about Phalaenopsis orchids and how to obtain a great flower display easily, every time!
▼▼▼More info below!▼▼▼
Phalaenopsis orchids are some if the easiest orchids to grow and their flowers last a long time! Moreover their flower spikes can be trained into various shapes, so the display can be even more attractive! One if my favorites is the cascade display, learn more here • How to get the Phalaen...
Flower spikes grow towards the light source, so a good technique is to arrange the orchid in regards to the light as the spike grows, or use a lamp to shape the spike.
Flower stakes are very useful too, especially if we don't use a lamp, or the orchid has heavy flowers.

So you know me, I like to make lengthy videos because I believe we must first really understand something to truly master it.. also because I get many questions regarding topics so I preffer to pre answer them in the video, think it's more useful :) But there are people who just want a simple, shorter tutorial, with no additional details. Think it would be a good idea to make a normal detailed version of a tutorial, but then a short one without many details and explanations?

You’ve never let me down- your YT channel is usually waiting to answer. First ever new flower spike! After 1.5yrs, my Phal got sunburnt on one leaf when treated windows were left open; a middle leaf curled after. It’d been in my windowsill to hopefully induce a flower spike; I let it stay there another week. I ignored to let her heal. The sunburnt leaf yellowed (not a bottom leaf) & when I turned her around to look, a 2” spike was there! (Don’t always have readers on, still.) Thanks! Off to search how to deal with an aerial root that’s got 2 spots it’s threateningly close to breaking. Tried superglue but don’t think it took.

I rescued an orchid that one of the secretaries threw away when relocating to another office, still had the sprouting plug and no roots left, your channel helped me to quickly know a little about these marvelous plants, repotted and with a bit of care it’s rebounded well, I noticed what i was hoping to be new root growth but May be a spike as the location of it, ether way it’s seems happy and I have a new obsession!! Thanks!!

Danny, I was just thinking last night when I was watering my orchids, which I have 5 grocery store purchases. I really appreciate your videos, after learning from your videos, about changing the medium, watering properly and fertilization i finally got a flower spike about a week ago, one flower spike, but it already have four branches forming at the same time. Wow, I told myself Danny must have a PHD in orchids, ha ha. I enjoy all the videos I have watched already, thank you so must for the bits and pieces of info you throw in discussing any particular topic. Of course people who have grown orchids and voilets may not want to listen to what is common knowledge. I appreciate that you acknowledge that people may do things differently, I like what you say about you get results and that is my goal, to get hood results and have beautiful healthy orchids. You encourage beginners, because people like myself thought growing orchids is very difficult. Your videos are step by step and full of information that has made my orchids more beautiful, healthy and resulted in having so far a flower spike, of a plant that wasn't happy.

I recently purchased what I believe to be a phalaenopsis with 3 spikes. I got it at a discount grocery store for $9. Simultaneously, the company owner was gifted a beautiful phal that sat neglected for a while. I adopted it and proceeded to cross pollinate both plants. So far the flowers have wilted, and the columns/stems have fattened and changed color. I look forward to growing out the crosses.

It’s that time of year and my orchids are starting to spike. Tying them off early is working just like you showed him the video! in the past, I just tried to manipulate the light and tie them off much later after they were too rigid and that can stress the orchid and caused other problems. Using a little thread earlier and manipulating the light at the same time as working well. Thank you!

wow i wasnt expecting the flower spike...but there it was, along with a new leaf too? so i found this just as i got on the computer. i saw the new leaf and thought the flower spike as a new root but was surprised by the growth as i checked back days later. i will train it because it's growing a bit horizontal towards my front window, it's on a leadge in my loft. this is exciting, i hope i do great going to feed it now. but not sure how often i should feed it? if you read this can you give me a tip...but i will look for further video. (i thought it was resting as all the blooms are gone and i trimmed the spike and saw new leaf)

Hi Danny. Update... I wrote to you a couple weeks ago about my mini noid phal with it being in a window when the temp outside got down to 18 degrees Fahrenheit. The spike blasted all the buds. You said for me to trim the spike down to where it was still healthy in hopes it would branch. Well, I lost the entire spike! It turned brown and had to cut the whole thing. (cry) 😢 Guess I'll have to wait until next year. BTW I bought new cabinets and none of my orchids are on the window sill!

🥰 Quick question: I broke off a 4-inch tip of a flower spike. After suspending her in fresh spring water for about 2 weeks now, she continues to grow, is firm, green, & developing. Will she grow roots into another plant and, if so, should I put her into media? I love your channel. Since becoming disabled, I have started adopting other people's unwanted Orchids and enjoy watching miracles happens and learning from my mistakes. This year everyone knows what to give me for Christmas.... Anything Orchid! XO

TY for all of your tutorials. Can you suggest where I can buy Phal orchids? The physical stores around here do not know what they are doing. You end up with an expensive sick plant that cost you even more money trying to rescue it. They look great at the store but after several days the buds shrivel, the leaves go from plump to fibrous. Then you take a look at the roots and they're a mess. I've started looking at the roots b4 i buy and all of the orchids are on their deathbeds! Poor little ladies! I have one i was able to save but it was a lot of work. it's healthy now but I want more than just one orchid. She's lonely :( .

Hi Danny, I have a question. I have two Phals in spike right now. A few months ago separeted, but already in spike keiki,(it is super cute :) ) and a big monster Phal. I didn't see the spike for the big one, so it is going wild now. So after the buds are formed, can I turn the orchid away from the window to actually see the flowers? Or will they turn to the light afterwards too? It was worked with a Zygo, and a Paph. maudiae green, but thely have way fewer buds on a single spike than a complex hybrid Phal...
