Here's a quick run down on how I trained my dogs to pick up items I drop. I'm in no way saying this is the only way to train this! it's just how I did. • Follow my other socials! Tiktok- @ Siriuslysalem Instagram- @ _skelexton
My dog knows lots of tricks, but I was having a heck of a time getting him to pick things up or even hand off toys to me during fetch. I tried your techniques and within a week he had it all figured out. Thanks!
I have a few chronic illnesses that make it very painful to pick things up! I will definitely be teaching this to my service dog! Thank you for the tutorial❤️
Wow. What a great explanation. I have been looking for a video so I can teach my dog to pick up the mail from my front door as I am having trouble bending over to pick it up.
Wonderful tutorial! This also seems helpful with teaching them to drop what they've got in their mouth with the gesture of your hand cupped in front of them. Can't wait to try and work on this with mine. Thank you!
I really love your videos!! I just love watching you guys.. When I get another dog, I will teach them these tricks.. I also love then way Salem looks at you.. 💜🖤💜🖤 Hugs and kisses..
i want to thank you for this video, i have the same thing you do and i had gotten me a poodle that im trying to train so that she is not just my companion but my service dog as well ,again thank you
This is exactly the video i needed. My dog wont take anything in his mouth that he doesn’t think is a toy or treat. Now i know how to get him to get items to retrieve! 🎉
My Husky knows to grab it, and that command paired with this method is gold. He still needs a lot of coaxing but I'm confident he'll learn pretty quickly. I want him to learn to pick up some toys and eventually bring me his leash for walks
I probably should have used Sirius for this video cause Salem LOVES this task 😂 I had to reshoot multiple clips over and over cause he was too excited he kept launching the bottle across the room
The key is definitely go slow this was my fourth try teaching this and after slowing it down he got it in around 15 minutes😂 still so proud of him tho❤
love the video but was wondering if you could give me some tips my dog is very food-motivated and will refuse to put anything into her mouth if there is food nearby thanks
My lab mix is very food motivated. I don't give her the treat until she does what I'm asking for, even if it takes a very long time. Eventually she'll try to do different things she knows in order to get that treat and will eventually give me the behavior I want. At that moment is when I mark and reward, then repeat. Eventually they end up understanding that they don't get that high value treat without giving a specific behavior first. Food motivated dogs take the most patience to train new behaviors.
Oh my goodness your hair is stunning!!!!!! How do you achieve those curls? You also have a lot of hair that probably adds to the beauty of your hair!! I have super boring hair I cannot get it to hold a curl for even 10 minutes I looooooove your gorgeous hair 😩😩😩
My rough collie I'm training for jra and he just licks the bottle and refuses to take it lol what can I do? I've been trying for a week and he barley acknowledges it anymore and I've switched treats and bottles things I could possibly think of help?
Thanks for the tutorial... I'm now a paraplegic.. no service dog but we have three.. the retriever needs to start retrieving... 😂 your dog is a good boy but your hair is beautiful!.. keep that!
I don't have any chronic illnesses or struggle bending down. I just wanna teach my dog to pick up his favourite toy. He already does well sometimes when I point to it before we leave a room (and he knows we're leaving), but I think it'd be cute if I could have him bring me his lamb to play.
Can u teach how to get meds? And drink? I have very bad stomach issues at only 14 and some days I’m bed or bathroom ridden all day long and when I’m in an apartment on my own in 4-10 years I know that seems like a while but I hear it’s better to teach them when there younger and time flys and some days I’m home alone as well so I’d rlly appreciate if you could show how pls and thank you so much! :) (And keep doing what your doing your so great and amazing for all that you do! :) )
Lovely tutorial! I am still in the early stages of training with my dog and he interacts with it without problems (touches his nose to it) but no matter how much I rub a treat on the item or make it fun he won't open his mouth or even lick it. Would smearing something sticky on it, like peanut butter, make it easier or more difficult for him to understand?
Hold off on rewards and stay persistent until she offers a longer hold. Even if it’s just 2 seconds longer, catch it the second it happens & praise / heavily reward. Then keep pushing it for longer and longer. Even if it’s just seconds at a time, hold off.
This is taught specifically to use as a task to bring me my medication. Feel free to use what you want. My dogs know to not touch things on tables / counter ever
Hello , there are 2 problems i am facing while doing this , first my dog doesn't let me pet her idk y she does that i used to have 2 dogs but none of them ever did this so i can't understand the reason and second after she gives me the bottle and i offer her treat she is trying to snatch the bottle as soon as she gets the treat what should i do
My dog is about 5 years old and I’ve been working with him for the past hour and a half and he’s already caught on as to retrieve it from my hand. He’s just very stubborn lol but I don’t think it really matters what age I just believe the older they are the more patience you’ll need when working with them.
@@rivergaming2393 I’m having the same problem he is 9 almost 10 months I’ve tried saying no buying more toys and bones so he can bite them but doesn’t work
@@siriuslysalem thank you so much for responding. She only picks up a toy or anything that looks like a stick she won’t pick up any blanket she won’t pick up a rag she won’t even interact with it can you please shoot some advice? I rolled the rag into a stick shape I made it look alive and she won’t interact with it
This is tutorials to help people learn how to train their dogs.. of course I’m going to use my demo dog. I have plenty of videos on my other platforms of me showing me starting new tricks from day one and how to train them. If you don’t want to watch tutorials. Then don’t watch them
@siriuslysalem Then you should be more open on how long it actually takes to effectively teach. Clearly your viewers won't get the progress you achieved in what appears to be 9 minutes. And no I don't watch your videos because they are garbage.
