love ur videos I've been watching for a year before I even thought about getting a puppy I love how u prove that beating a dog is not the way to get them to listen to u I've seen people hit they dog bcuz of their unacceptable behavior but ur method is so productive and easy its amazing ur doing an awesome job keep it up
The first time I tried putting my puppy on a lead she panicked, cried and resisted me the whole way. I followed this method today and couldn't believe how well it worked. Thanks very much!
I will give you some great ideas, tricks, and instruction that may help you turn your puppy into the best behaved, most happy, jogging, bouncing, slipper-fetching best pal you always wanted?. Watch here > HowToTrainYourDog5.blogspot.com
I'm getting my new puppy in three days. Your training videos are great, and are helping me to get prepared to train him the right way when I bring him home. Thanks! And BB8 is really cute.
These tips work really good with small children. My trips to Walmart are cut in half. If my child runs towards the toys I simply yank on the leash and watch as his head bounces off the floor like a ball. Then it’s as easy as dragging him around the store till my shopping is complete.
Take a look at some other videos of mine:) I'm really committed to featuring dogs of all energy levels, breeds and personalities. Plus I have more vids on the way! :) Hang in there.
+Zak George's Dog Training rEvolution not to act dumb...but this is my first puppy she's a German Shepard chow mix...and step by step videos like this are a lot of help...but I got her a few weeks ago, I got her when she was 5 weeks...and she's 2 months now and I've just started to train her...a trainer told me to get mentally stimulating toys to help with that snapping so I did... And I will watch more of your videos and hope and pray it'll help
I just have a 3mth old puppy. I should have watched this video before introducing the leash to him yesterday. I like how you did it so gently with the dogs. thanks for sharing
+Phoebe Elephant If anyone is interested in training a dog the greatest success that I have ever had was by using the Bevs Booster Guide (just google it) - I found it the most incredible natural method i've followed.
+Phoebe Elephant Good info the greatest info that I have had was by using the Bevs Booster Guide (i found it on google) - definately the most incredible natural method that I have ever followed.
This actually helped so much. My 9 week old flatcoat golden mix wouldn't even budge wth the leash yesterday in our first training session. Today he is getting used to having it on him, and made his first baby steps to walking consistently on it (with treat reinforcement of course).
Ok, zak. You need to redo this vid. BB8 is so cute, that I can't concentrate on the vid. Could you try using an ugly dog, or maybe put a bag on his head. Great vid...I think, lol
I totally missed the memo on this and went ahead and just put the leash on and expected my new pup to be ok. She totally freaked out, like totally totally freaked out..... I'll have to revisit this and break it down as you state. Thanks again for such great content ! I'll be ordering your book for sure...
"Teaching real language and real phrases to your dog..." Excellent way to sum up the overall goal to make the relationship meaningful and rich! I'd be interested to know how much time elapsed from the time you sat down until you were walking with a bit of tension on the leash. Attention spans are so short at > 4 months & I want each session to be fun. Thanks for any feedback!
We brought home a Golden Retriever about 2 months ago. Your videos have been a huge help! We have learned a lot. Thank you for making such great videos!
This is really great, i adopted a 5 month old boy puppy from a shelter, this video helped us a lot about being comfortable in the harness & leash but as soon as we try to step out of the door, he gots frozen, smash himself tight on the floor and starts to cry. Our second day today and could not manage to make him convinced to walk even for one step. Will get there though... Thanks for the great tips!
I have a 9 week old great dane puppy. I was wondering when you recommend taking him outside on walks and to socialize him. My vet said not until he is 4 months old and as had all his shots. I was just wondering what you recommend? thanks
I know it’s been a year, but what did you end up doing? I have the same dilemma. I don’t know whether to wait for all his shots or to take him out to socialize him
i have to say this was very helpful. our puppy is 3 months and fights me every step with a leash. will certainly give this a try cause when she fights i get frustrated and i end up picking her up and going back inside. i want her to walk and get the exercise cause i'm walking more and it would be nice to take her with me. she's so wild at times and it really needs to come to a halt. thank you for posting this with a young puppy so i can start working on our puppy to make her a fabulous adult dog.
This is WONDERFUL! I wish I saw this sooner. Like a week ago we picked up a stray puppy from the street and I have been investigating how to raise him ever since. He was also sick on antibiotics, and only got vaccinated yestterday, so of course we had limitations, but he seemed to be picking up things really good. Got "come", "sit" and "peepee" in few days with really high rate of success. But the only thing I found about collar teaching, is put the collar for few minutes at the time, maybe treat while putting, and then take it off. Well, the puppy hated this and seemed to be mad for it yesterday, stopped coming to me for one whole afternoon. Now when he sees the collar, he goes away. I guess time to buy some raw meat (been using his usual food as treat so far and he seemed happy enough, but this will require some extra love:)) Thank you Zak, you are GREAT!
BEST TEACHER EVER! I'VE BEEN WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS SINCE 2016 AND IT INSPIRES ME TO TRAIN MY DOGS.NOW IT GETS HARDER TO ME BECAUSE 2 OF MY NEIGHBOR'S DOG IS LIVING HERE NOW IN MY HOUSE AND THEY DON'T WANT TO GO HOME TO THEIR HOUSES ANYMORE...NOW,I DON'T KNOW HOW TO TRAIN THEM ALL...
Great lesson on training puppy to walk on a leash. My little Mckey hates his halter, so I have held off on attempting to train him on walking with the leash. Now I know how to help him become familiar with the halter and leash.
As soon as I put the leash on my puppy he either lays down or when I try to walk he doesn't move. Any tips on how to get him to actually walk with it on?
Try to put the leash on him and drop a treat about a foot in front of you every time you take a step. If that doesn't work than consider a "gentle leader" just remember to only put the slightest of pressure on it.
my puppy starts jumping and rolling freaking out when I barley pull on the least but he's okay with putting it on him but once he moves he jumps up and throws himself like a bucking bull . anybody have any tips for this . thanks .
Great video, Zak! Sweet puppy. I would love to see more of him. I've leashed a dog to my belt loop and it works great. Keeps the puppy out of trouble and builds a connection between you and the puppy that you cant any other way. It's a great idea to suggests this to your followers.
This video is brilliant. It makes so much sense to ease a puppy into *any* new tool or situation. I'm getting a pup in 10 days and I was just going to put a harness on him thinking it would be easy but I see how it could go wrong. Thanks. A+ I would be concerned that moving the harness/collar/leash around too much will make him think it's a toy, but it's good to let them get used to the presence of them.
Thank you for the great puppy training videos. I just got a new Lab pup, 8 weeks old. He is a really good puppy and we are progressing very well thanks to some help from watching your videos. My boyfriend has only had one puppy prior to this one and I am encountering difficulty getting him on board with the concept of positive reinforcement training. He is quick to punish and does not understand why the puppy nips, bites and chews on him. I have showed him articles and videos, but he still thinks just because we've had the pup a week, that the pup should already know not to bite. He wants to use more aggressive techniques like holding his muzzle closed or pinching his lips! I don't want him to do this! Do you have any ideas on " People Training " ...lol Will our puppy be ok and understand from one person to another if you have two in a household and one is training differently from the other? I am not having as much trouble with the pup as my boyfriend, but I am having difficulty convincing him not to use pain as a training tool...so just wondering if the pup will ultimately learn what we want him to do with two different training techniques...
. Thank you Zak for all your great advice! I followed it step by step and it definitely worked for me. I have a 11 week old Cocker Spaniel and I leash trained him at 9 weeks old and now he walks right by my side.
so you showed that the dog on s leash but you did not show him walking next to you. how do you get a stubborn german shepard pup to walk on a leash. he don't mind the leash on him and he drags it all over the place. just won't walk.
Got a puppy 2 days ago! Training her just now how to walk on the leash. I over do it yesterday and left her for a while oh boy she almost die of panicking. I never thought this would be hard but I got her! :) thanks for the vid :)))
I thank you for your dedication and passion for training. My puppy is doing wonderfully he isn’t biting , comes when called and we are leash training now. Thank you a million times!
+Conor Otoole summer is good, because you can get all the training in, and since there are going to be days when you are going to leave your puppy at home, it most-likely won't get separation anxiety when you go back to work/school. I believe summer time would be the best. (:
+Conor Otoole I would look at summer as well because the first 3 months your puppy will need you the most. Also good time to go on adventures once all shots are clear. I would say consider daycare or dog walker when you go back to school if you are going to be gone for long periods of time.
+This'has'random Character's I'm on the same page with everyone else about summer being best due to your availability to train your puppy, but if you're worried about separation anxiety, make sure to train some independence into him. Leave him alone a bit (don't neglect him, but go to the store or a friend's house without him) and see how he does without you during those times. If you can leave the house and hear him howling from outside, or if you come back and he's been destructive in your absence, you'll probably need to do some training with him to deal with it before you go back to school.
Hey Zak I was wondering if you could give me some tips on to walk my puppy because she will not walk she will bark at people ,cars anything really and it has been like this for a month and I cannot snap her out of it by the way she is a chihuahua
My Chihuahua bark when walking. at people's, dogs, or just for no darn reason. she also pull on leash with no strength of stopping during the walk. I'll love to take her to nice places without her barking at other dogs & pulling to go somewhere
Thanks Kac I don't have my puppy yet. But I want to learn what to do so when he/she comes I'll be ready. You're so good at teaching and I was happy to find you.
Don't know whether it's GSDs in general or I got lucky with my pup but she turned 14 weeks a few days ago and the 1st day she was a little resistant but from 2nd day onward she loved the leash and going for walks. It's incredible to see
Hi!! I am a new subscriber I must say...you have definitely made me feel less stressed about getting a new puppy!!! We just got our first, he is a Chug. Your videos have made me feel more confident about getting him and taking care of him!! I can't wait to learn more!!! Thank you so much!!
BB8 did soooo good!!! Uhm.. My puppy just thinks the harness is a toy and with the leash also :(( She just bites it and yanks it and uhhhh HATES IT WHYYY
Fantastic.....i found you just at the point of tearing my hair out!Feel so much more relaxed and you have reminded me that i am expecting too much too soon and that puppies are fun!
Hey Zak. I have a question. In your potty training clip you mention that you should get your dog to pee right after you bring him home for the first time, which is logic hehe. But how do we do that if he can't walk on a leash yet? How do you combine these two 'skills'? :)
Awesome video as always. My only question is approximately how long did this training session last? my big question is how long can I train my puppy before he needs a break.
Thank you for this vid. Just rescued a puppy from the street. He's 4 months old and refuses to follow me... he rather pulls back, but I'll put this into practice and tell you about it!!!
This was very helpful because im getting frustrated with trying to take her on walks. She does fine with the harness. But as soon as the leash gets attached she freezes up. Shes used to running around the yard and has been trained to always stay near me. Ill definitely try this
After you put your puppy on the leash, pick the puppy up and bring them outside in your hands. Set the puppy down and give it a treat. once it starts walking take a few steps infront of it, and if the puppy follows give it a treat. baby steps.
Try to tie a light string about 2-3 feet to the harness and then go and play with him. Then you can gradually start to grab the strong for short amounts of time with lots of treats. Once he gets use to having some tension on his back try to reintroduce the leash (find the smallest, thinnest, lightest leash possible) This may take a total of up to a few days.
Michelle Rekuc what could I do? My puppy chews it and won't let go. Then he will pull and tug and not move. Yes, I followed the steps in the vid but they do not seem to work
Ive been on a binge of these vids cause I'm getting a puppy in about 2-3 months after about 7 years of begging and im soo excited but I'm kind of nervous. I would really appreciate some tips on owning a dog 😊😊
