I mean it depends, the german shepherd is a great dog if you train it well... The labrador too... But labradors tend to be stubborn at times even though they seem to be fine just like golden retrievers theyre actually quite stubborn & need a lot more trsining than a shepherd

I heard Blue Buffalo got recalled for having lead in it recently and they've been recalled a lot for other reasons as well. I personally think feeding Blue Buffalo is just about the same as feeding Beneful. 90% of Blue Buffalo's ingredients are things I don't know (supplements and additives and fillers). Even some of the are questionable and not needed for dogs. The best dog foods to feed are Orijen, Acana, Fromm, Zigature, I and Love and You and Pet, and Nature's Logic. The ingredients in Taste of the Wild and Merrick seem pretty decent but I heard bad things about both (diamond pet foods aren't safe and Purina owns Merrick). You can look on the website dogfoodadvisor.com to see what foods are good to feed as well as what foods have had recalls. You should get a food rated above 4/5 stars. Remember, dogs eat meat, not wheat. And dogs survive not thrive off of vegan meals. If you can do it safely, raw meals are best but if you want to stick to kibble then the foods I listen above are best.

Ruanda1992 Veterinarians are not animal nutritionist at all. Some of the time they market dog food like Hill's Science Diet (another bad dog food) for a profit. Don't you find it odd that the only animals that eat artificially created food are the animals that live with us?? All other carnivores eat raw meat. A dog's jaw structure cannot even move side to side (it only moves up and down) like a human's can so they cannot finely grind down food with their back teeth to properly be chewing kibble in the first place. They're meant to rip/tear (meat) with their incisors and canines and swallow it whole without chewing much. Their molars are meant to slice and cut off harder sections of meat that their front teeth cannot take care of. Take a look at the dog food advisor web page to find out what's the best kibble to feed your dog. If you have an Instagram, check out @pet.nutrition page. Dogs mostly just need meats/fish (muscle, organ, bone) and small amounts cooked vegetables (raw vegetables can cause intestinal blockage or uncomfortable excretion), and soft fruits like blueberries. If you read the ingredients on your dog's food and you can't understand half of it is it truly good for them?? Orijen is the best kibble to feed your dog. The only supplement in it is Zinc and the last (if I can remember) 3 ingredients are probiotics used to aid in digestion. There's a documentary on Netflix called Pet Fooled too if you'd like to know more about pet nutrition. I'm not saying you gotta feed raw meat meals, but you should definitely look into better kibble for your pups!

Ruanda1992 No problem :). Orijen is an expensive brand (the 25 lb bags range from $90-120 USD depending on what you're feeding) though and they only sell either online or at select local pet stores (you will not be able to find it at petco or petsmart or grocery stores).

AK girlsmile most likely there's something wrong but maybe they didn't want to their dog to have puppies and just want rid of them. If you really want one and not just because it's free go and see the puppies (bring someone with you) it's very very important that they are atleast 8 weeks, you should be able to see their mum atleast but seeing dad is a plus, if you can't see the mum then do not buy one, no matter how cute they are!! the mum should have her health checks, they should usually have their first sets of jags but not always and they should not have ever been let outside in the past if they're not up to date on their jags. I wouldn't even take the puppy if there was only 1 of them, if it doesn't come up to you straight away don't take it either, puppies should never be scared of new people! Watch the puppies interact with mum aswell!

No decent breeder would EVER give a dog away free (except maybe to a legitimate service or military/police dog trainer). Most likely they don't health test their dogs and so the puppy is likely to suffer crippling health issues in the future if it doesn't already, or have bad behavioural issues. The puppy may already be sick with parvo, mange or some other nasties which is why they want to get rid of it. You have to ask yourself why haven't they just taken it to a reputable shelter, there must be a reason? Bottom line don't get the dog even though it's free! Never ever get a dog from a "breeder" that doesn't fully health test, have health guarantees and contracts to always take the puppy back, doesn't let you see mum, doesn't ask questions about where the puppy will be living etc. If you can't find any ethical breeders nearby then rescue.

Not worth the heartache. Don't go to a breeder, adopt or rescue instead ! Rescue dogs can be a challenge but you reap the rewards ten times over.

If you find the right reward she will! Also make sure you practice confidence! Maybe your dog knows you aren’t serious because your mindset is that your dog will be too crazy to train. I find that with dogs and children, you have to be in control. Even if you are not in control, you have to have that mindset so you can problem-solve and use all of the tools that you have when needed. It all starts with mindset. But even the most hyper, or most lazy dogs can be trained if their owner does what they need to do. No matter how disobedient a child is (or hyper lol) they can become extremely obedient when the person in charge has the authority and control. It’s like magic!! It’s all about who holds the control (or the treats or toys haha). Remember to keep things positive, but don’t give in to their antics or get discouraged! Sometimes progress is tiny at first! 🌱

Also, animals and people crave attention! Are you giving your dog attention for jumping all over the couch? Don’t let her antics get to you! Stay strong and only give attention and reward for the behavior you are looking for! Be patient, animals are smart, they can problem solve too and try to figure out what they need to do to get what they want. After all, all anyone wants, apparently animal or human, is just attention. This is how I trained my cats to stop going in and out of the glass sliding door. Now they only go in and out when I do, because I do not give in to them because I am the owner. Sometimes they still meow to try to get their way, but I just ignore them or redirect them and it is great (they used to drive me crazy haha) 🐱 A part of being the owner; however, is providing. You need to provide what they need in a consistent and structured way (to the best of your ability). If you do not have a routine with your dog, I would start there. Make a daily/ weekly routine for you and your dog! 🗓️

PS, negative attention is still attention. This is why some kids love to misbehave, but then when the caregivers realize their mistakes (don’t give child control, provide routine and engaging activities with positive encouragement and praise, and teach the child how to behave/ modeling) then the child will constantly be well-behaved to get the positive attention!!! PS, sorry for the long reply! I have animal science and human development degrees, I have worked with animals and children for a while, and I love watching Supernanny and Zak George, so I am very excited about this topic! ❤

If your dog is very energetic, make sure to include lots of playtime, walks, dog parks, etc into your routine to get that energy out! When you want kids and animals to listen, it can be a lot more likely after you get their excess energy out! It’s like when we get to circle time in the preschool, if the kids are having a harder time sitting still than usual, then we can do some “animal stretches”, which usually end in hopping around like kangaroos or frogs to get out those wiggles. It always works. It also helps practice self-control, since they are doing what you say, even though it is just stretching and jumping around. Zak George recommends fetch! He loves to use the frisbee with his dogs, he has a video about how to get your dog excited about fetch and frisbees too! 😊 🐕
