This is a basic way to transfer any program file. Thank you for doing this for people who need it. This should work on most windows operating systems!!!
Thank you...I have been cataloguing my record collection for 12 years using a program which has since been discontinued. I thought I was going to lose everything, but thanks to your guidance I was able to transfer it to another computer.
Thanks! I’m getting a new computer and I have a discontinued version of Paint Tool SAI, which I use daily for my job. I thought I’d have to get a new program and lose all of my custom tools, but I’m so relieved to find out that I can just transfer it over. Thank you so much!
This will not work for a program that uses DLL's that reside in a different folder. Some Windows programs reference Registry entries to find needed resources.
Just the guidance I needed! I knew that it was possible to move programs to other pcs by taking them from the hard drive folder, but I never knew how exactly it was done! Thanks for the explanation! (I'm also moving old discontinued software to a newer computer.) Cheers!!
@@thepineappler3370 when I try run as administrator it tells me couldn't find resource files qnd to reinstall the application...I'll try with another program
8:34 to 8:49 ahahaha😂, thanks for this video man! I have Windows Movie Maker on my old PC, got a new PC sometime ago so now want to install some old programs onto the new one, hopefully this works! I will edit this soon if it works or not! Edit: sadly it didnt work, i copied all the files, clicked on the Windows Movie Maker program it just makes my cursor into a loading cursor then nothing. The size of the app shows up as only 120 KB which doesnt seem right Edit #2: nevermind i found a video that has a link to Windows Movie Maker! Downloaded and it works great on my new PC!!😊
You copied the entirety of Windows movie makers Program Files folder? If you do so the folder will have the icon to run the program in it. Just click on it when you run it, don't bother with making a shortcut.
If i have games on steam i just log into my steam account on the new pc and instal the games right. And i need to move folders if i want right beacausr tbh i got noting that i need at file explorer only some mod folders for games. And question for steam my game saves gonna be the same on the new pc yes?
Will this work on a registered program and retain the registration on the new computer? I have a desktop world clock program that I love, I haven't been able to find anything even close to Crave World Clock. The only problem is I have a purchased/registered copy and the key I have does not work on the new computer with a new install. The company is gone so I can't repurchase it. I'm trying to find some way to transfer the purchased registered version to the new computer (actual same computer just do HDD) and retain the registration.
I had the same problem but i was able to contact the company and they eventually sent me the registration key. If you still have the registration key it still should work
Any Reason you can't just copy the program file folder itself, in your case "Freemake" and paste that into the USB drive opposed to copying the files within the folder and making a new folder in the usb drive?
Try and see. This is just the method I was taught and I'm sharing. It works so.. there's that. But if another method works too then there's more than one way to skin a cat
The file in the desktop is just a map to the files saved in the Hardrive (C:). If you move that without the program files, the new computer will follow the map and not find the programs code.
Can I transfer over my Internet total security over from my old laptop to my new laptop so that I can continue to use it on my new laptop instead of buying the software again? I would also like to transfer my Ledger Live(crypto app)to my new laptop so that I can continue to use all my Ledger Live stuff. Is that possible? Thanks for your time and videos.
@@thepineappler3370 it does. I will have to pay for a new one. What about Ledger Live? That didn't cost me anything. A free download. But it has all my crypto information on it on the old laptop.
Did not work for me, I am trying to transfer an outdated program from 1999 on a windows 7 system to a windows 10/11 system. When I do all your steps and I attempt to open the start exe file it says this app can't run on your PC, contact software publisher. The software publisher is no longer available. When transferring files from old to USB I got an error message on some BAT files that could not be transferred, could this be where the issue lies? Any help would be appreciated.
So your battling 2 things...one the program your transferring does not work with the new software you have. (Ie a 32 bit processing program for a 64 bit processor won't work) Second check the license. Alot of times when I transfer software I need to use my user code, purchasing code or password, depending on the transfer. Most software wants the licensing passwords to transfer and open. Thisbis the case with me. I'm transferring an older program I had a lifetime membership to for a new computer. I kept the password and I have to reissue the password to open the system. It's super common. It's one of these two issues.
Is it possible to transfer my AOL desktop gold to my new laptop but what I want is to still have the AOL gold on my regular computer as well as the laptop? Is this doable?
this is only for program w/o any dependencies instralled , or run only or portable apps , not very usefull but it is a free service one has to find what they looking for good luck to ya'll
I have tried twice from scratch, and once it's on the new computer, and icon on the desktop and click on it, it just shows me all the files in that program. I can't get DRAWPLUS to open fr it to work. ..... WHY is that?
There may be some recognition issues from a retro program on a newer computer. Check by trying to transfer another smaller less expensive program to see if you have the same issues. That will tell you if it's an issue with that particular program. Some have a one time use code and won't activate.
i want to transfer snowrunner game which is pirated and dont want to lose the progress the game run fine when transferd but lost the progress any solution?
I have two all-in-one dell one of my Dell screens are broken so I cannot get into it and I have two people on the one that is broken and I went and purchased a new down like three or four years ago the problem is the one that is green that is smashed it have two of my big fish trying to see if I can get get a couple games off there and transfer it to the newer computer that I have is like a 2021 how can I get that app and play it on a new computer I talked to Big fish and they told me I would never retrieve it again not knowing my old email address which is on the old computer how can I get those games in a copy of can you help me with that
what you are showing is only copying files from one computer to another. It does not copy the Program and Product codes that allows for licensed programs to be transferred to another machine.
@@thepineappler3370 If the program has a license key in the install, the license is not included with the copy to a flash drive. installed programs like Photoshop and even Windows have product Keys and activation codes, and those keys are not included when you do a copy and paste that you showed in your video. The Product Keys are put in the registry and other hidden places and without that info included in your file transfer, the programs will not work.
@Pat Zeuner where in this video did I mention anything about keys? This is simple and to the point for existing programs.. if you have the program you should have the key. Some are for one use and that won't work.
@@thepineappler3370 Your lead to your video clearly states "Transfer a Program" what you showed was how to copy the files within a program folder. What you should have labeled the video is "Transfer Files", because to transfer "Programs" is a lot more complicated than the copy and paste, for any program that has Keys and or Codes. If You are setting up new HDD or SDD or want to copy a certain program to a different HD, you need to use some sort of "clone" to transfer the entire or program from the old Hard drive contents, including the hidden locations that the keys and codes were hidden at time of original program installation.
@jasongrant2366 noo.. that's a left over icon from the person I bought the laptop from.. we don't have that game on the computer.. if you noticed this tutorial is made when I'm transferring the files I have to a new laptop
Video is very useful, thank you for it, but your aim is terrible, man. I keep wanting to move your hand to the right so I can see what you are doing!!!
