Question. The new phone: Do I have to set it up as new device so I can enable Bluetooth in order to for option #1 to work? Or once I get the screen that shows what option do I wanna do and the Bluetooth is on in the old in the device will it pop up? Automatically or .. ?
Nice one Jess', managed to achieve the 'impossible' thanks to your brilliant, calm, clear & concise talk-through. Opted for the iTunes back-up method, worked really well. Many thanks.
Parkour Master - Yep, transferred everything, Apps, photos, voice notes. Follow Jesses directions, worked really well and at first attempt. Good luck 👍
Wow! I am sooo computer illiterate and I went through many google searches with no help. This site was Amazing!!! Step by Step, Well Paced and Understandable! A++++++++
Thank you so much! I recently found my old 1st Gen IPad and wanted to get a apps data on my new IPhone and really couldn't find any good tutorials with anything that involved the "computer method" as the ipad was 5.1.1 ios and majority of videos did the first or second method in this video thank you so much as it worked.
The first option worked great for me, but I had to do this: 1) Enabled Bluetooth on my old phone to get the two phones to connect to each other. "Set Up New iPhone" pop-up window appeared on old phone. 2) On new phone, I went as far as the prompts would allow but got stuck at a software update. (New phone had already connected to wifi without me needing to input password.) 3) Installed software update on new phone. 4) On new phone, went into Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings. New phone restarted to "Hello" screen. 5) Clicked "Hello" screen on new phone, then "Set Up New iPhone" pop-up window appeared again on old phone. Followed prompts. All my data transferred perfectly! I just had to wait a few minutes for all my apps to finish downloading on the new phone. THANK YOU!!
carl wheezer Yes you just take it out of your old phone and put it into your new phone, if it takes the same size SIM. If you are switching from a phone that has a completely different size than you will have to buy a new SIM card
Techboomers wait I'm getting a new iPad but the iPad I have now is not supported so if I back up the new one can I update them to the new iOS on the new one
Does it save every bit of data on the individual apps? Not just apple ones as well, for example I use google mail and notes, will they be the same? And what about all the settings (also I know that I could just log into the account, that was just for an example)
I had to update my phone's software first and then was able to use the first method until I went to settings on the new phone and erased all data and settings. Then worked great. Thanks.
Thank you very much. This was helpful after T-Mobile told me they don’t restore customers phone no more. Very easy to follow. Very precise. Thanks again 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Do all methods get the same results? Will some methods make me have to re-enter a bunch of passwords after I’m finished? What is the absolute best method to prevent this from happening? Thanks
I managed to transfer some data via method 3...but no pics, no contacts, and music not obtained specifically through the iTunes Store is nowhere to be found. Unfortunately I thought that it simply had to be set up and now it’s set up and is unrecognizable as a new iPhone. Also, I cannot activate it. Wonderful.
Question: I've been using my new iPhone for 2 months now and have pictures in it that I want to keep. I wanted to transfer all my data from my old iPhone to my new one. Is there a way to keep all data I have on my new phone? Will the transfer erase my current data files on the new phone?
Or split up files then if you have the stuff on the old one and the new stuff on the old one get the files from the old one drag them into the new iPhone then you are done!
Three questions..... 1. Which one of these methods will copy my existing text messages and texted pictures over to the new phone? 2. Which one of these methods will copy my pictures over but still keep the album folders I created with the pictures I put in them intact while transferring them to the new phone? 3. Which one does both if any? Thank you!
What method allows current app in new phone to not disappear? I have a feeling if you do a backup, all photos/apps in the new phone will be gone and replaced with the ones in the backup. Let’s say I have GarageBand in the new one but not the old one, how do I make sure that GarageBand will still be there in the new phone?
I hope someone answers asp but i will use my old iphone for few days so can i transfer my information to the old phone and back to the newer phone once it gets out of the repair shop?
When you transfer from phone to phone, the apps only work if its still available to re-download in the itunes store. if the app is no longer available, the phone tells you its not available and then prompts you to delete the app. How can I circumvent this? I love the app that is no longer available and need it on the new phone
Hello if I choose method 1 that’s wireless right? that’s means no wifi needed I’ll use my data if I use that method all the data and files will be transfer ? First time I’m gonna do this mostly I used iCloud since I don’t have wi fi . Please reply back if you can Thank you .
About to upgrade to a new phone, and the last time I had to have my phone replaced, it Refused to use my old iTunes backup to set up the new phone, so I’m rather concerned. Hopefully it works this time.
Hi there. Can I use the direct transfer method, WHILE the old phone is still backing everything up to icloud (haven't done it in err a few years so could take a day or so..). Or should I wait regardless? Thanks!
Desperate need of help. I am attempting this using iTunes. I managed to backup the old iPhone (which is all jacked up). But when I plug in my new phone, it doesn't appear in iTunes.
Techboomers, I have several apps that are offloaded in order to save space. Would I need to reinstall them before I can do the back up and the transfer, or will the data still get transferred over even though it has been offloaded?
Question...when I "restore everything" from my old iphine to my new one...does it restore let's say my recent (sent/received) messages, videos, voice notes and pictures from Whatsapp too? ... Cuz I have a lot of important stuff I don't wanna lose during this process
Question, does quick start also transfer game data? I’m going to be getting a new phone and I don’t want to lose my precious game data i worked so hard to achieve.
This will also transfer apps from your device, but you'll have to log in on those apps to get into your accounts again. If you have an account on the game you're using/if it uses Apple's Game Center to track your progress, you shouldn't have any issues.
I’m about to get a new iPhone SE. It will have a SIM card, right? If I use my old SIM, from my old SE (not sure why) what do I do with the one that comes out of the new phone?
Hi everyone, and especially Jesse. I just have one question. Should I choose iTunes over iCloud? I'm asking this because I want the faster yet safest choice. I'm on a 200 Mbps internet connection, and my PC (currently) is a 9th Gen Core i9, with 1 TB Nvme as my system drive. Anyone's help would be highly appreciated. Hemant Pande MD.
That data is generally saved to your accounts on those apps - with WhatsApp you can back up your chat history to iCloud so that when you log in to WhastApp on your new device, your chats will be there.
Thank you, although there was an error when I did the third method saying an error. I’m not sure why it happened? Can the game apps and old photos also transfer or not?
