How to Transfer Contacts from Android to Android

Learn how to easily transfer your contacts from your old Android phone to a new one with our helpful video tutorial. We'll show you how to take advantage of the Google software built-in to Android devices to easily move contacts from Android to Android.
To transfer contacts from Android to Android, open your contacts app on your old Android. Then tap More. Select Settings. Tap Contacts. Tap Import/Export Contacts. Select Export to Device Storage. Open Gmail. Draft an email to yourself. Attach the VCF file to your email, then send it. On your computer, open your Gmail inbox and access the email you sent to yourself. Download the attached file. Go to Google.com/contacts. Click Import Contacts. Click Choose File. Find the file in your downloads folder, then click Open. Click Import. When setting up your new Android, log in to your Google account and your contacts will be automatically synced to your new Android phone.

I couldn't get this to work using google, but instead saved the file to my microsoft drive, emailed the file to myself, opened on my new phone and saved the file. Thank you!

@@techlifeunity It was actually easier to do than your video suggested. I emailed the contacts file to the new phone. When I clicked on the attachment one of the options was to install the new contacts. One click, it was done!

I'm totally confused from the beginning. Are you "exporting from the google cloud to your old phones internal memory at first? And then, how is it transferred to your computer - with a USB data cord? When I try to do that - my desktop computer will not recognize my device (a much older device without android - but I'm trying to take contacts off my old SIM card and transfer them to a new android smartphone). Would you happen to have an easy solution for that?

Is there any way to transfer contacts from a broken phone that i cant turn on to my new phone? The old phone was a Huawei & ive got a Alcatel phone now & google downloaded photos but contacts didnt get transferred automatically & guy at Tweed Heads NSW Australia Vodafone shop told me to get my full size sim from dead Huawei cut down to make it anmicro sim & the idea was it would fit into the micro sim in my new Alcatel phone so i could save contacts which was such a no no because that just was a stupid suggestion. Does google automatically save all contacts with my email account or would google only do that if id had that set up prior to Huawei breaking? Any help would be much appreciated!

Your contacts would only be synced to your Google account if you had set that up on your previous device. We would suggest bringing the devices into your mobile service provider to see if they can help. If they aren't able to help you, you may be out of luck unfortunately.

My contacts doesn't have a "More" option. Just a group option where "More" should be.

Isn't the step of emailing it to your computer unnecessary? I'm pretty sure you can upload the file to Google contacts from your phone as well.

After watching the entire video (with your excellent instructions), the process seemed so complex! There must be an easier way! There really should be. There are so many steps - it looks too scary! I would end up just re-doing all my contacts by hand. I have tried micro USB to micro USB - from phone to phone - it doesn't work. I have tried to transfeter from old sim to my computer - doesn't work. I am waiting to receive a sim card reader - so that, hopefully - that device will read the sim card and transfer the sim contacts from the reader to my new device.??? (old sim card is a larger "standard" size - and new device only uses "nano" smaller size).
