Hi Stewart, thanks for the great guide - I am having issues enabling the 'import' function on the Google admin console. In my console it doesn't give options for Apps > Google Workspace > Gmail > Setup. I note our account is 'Google Workspace Business Starter'. could this limit the functionality?

Excellent video Stewart. Now wouldn’t it be quicker and simpler to setup both Gmail accounts in a desktop email client such as Microsoft outlook, selecting the email from one account folder and dragging and dropping to the other account in the desired folder? This would also work for importing non Gmail accounts such as outlook and yahoo as well would it not? Assuming one has access to a desktop email client of course....

Hi mate! If you have allocated folders, this can work for 'some' email clients. There are a few was depending what you use for emails. This is just the most effective and recommended process.

I have a question, would you happen to know if there's like an admin setting that will handle the migration without the user logging in to their Free email and going through the process of going through the POP settings? example I own a small business with 50 employees, I have their Free email addresses that we want to simply migrate over to the business email. or should they do this manually 1 by 1 by logging in to both their emails(free and business email)? thanks. -Jeremiah

I would import all and then just remove the files you do not want.

I'm struggling on this. There's article for it called "Exclude data that doesn't need to be migrated" using label, but I was not able to do that. Opened support chat but lost 2h of my life with incompetent support, had to explain over and over again the issue, to finally hear "it is not possible". Showed this article and escalated the issue (I don't even know how they get the job on google). I'll come back if I solve this 👍

@@hrxm yes, that is what I am trying to do, outlook has that function. I am trying to part of previous worker’s (at my position) important partial email to me so that I can carry out previous pending jobs. Previous email so huge transaction, it is better to pick up only pending job emails.

Hey mate, You cannot 'turn' however, you can migrate all your old emails from your free Gmail to your new paid Gmail.

I followed all of the steps but I get the following error Gmail couldn't identify your POP server. Please enter your POP server information below and Could not validate this combination of email address and password. If you are sure your password is correct, sign in to your other mail provider to confirm and complete any necessary captchas or image verification tests and then try the import again. Welcome! No your can setup a Google Business Profile for free. You do not need Google Workspace (formally known as G-suite)

Every time I type in my password in the POP pop-up box, it says: "Could not validate this combination of email address and password. If you are sure that your password is correct, sign in to your other mail provider to confirm and complete any necessary captchas or image verification tests and then try the import again." But there's no way for me to validate the password when I do log in again to the account, and I am sure the password is correct. Do you have any solutions to this?

Hi David, I'm not sure, we typically help clients migrate over to Google Workspace, not the opposite. I will need to look into this.

Problem was actually fixed: you need to enable 2-step verification and use the 16 digit password instead of your own personal password. @@StewartGauld

Hi.. I have a doubt. When we start the importing process, does the copy of the mails that we are importing stay or they get deleted and get added to the new migrated location when the importing is completed?

I was so excited thinking this was it, but I hit another obstacle and I'm hoping you can help. I looked through the comments and didn't see anyone else with the issue. Mine is two business emails under the same domain. I follow all your instructions for Google Workspace and when it comes time to "sign into your other email account" which I do... it then says this: Name-of-my-company, Inc. Mail couldn't identify your POP server. Please enter your POP server information below. Then it gives me a POP username field, a POP server field, and I can edit the port which is defaulted to 110. I'm WAY outside my zone here - would love to get your take if you have the time - just trying to migrate one biz account emails to another : )

Hey David, Under account you should be able to see import under account.
