How to Transfer Large Videos From iPhone To PC for Free

This is how I get large videos from my iPhone to a Windows based PC.
Step 1 - Download the VLC media player (well known and reputable app) to your iPhone.
Step 2 - Next, go to photos on your iPhone and open the video you want to send. Click on the bottom left icon, then scroll down to where it says ‘save to files’. Select VLC and click save in the upper right corner.
Step 3 - Open the VLC app on your iPhone. Go to network settings in VLC and make sure the 'sharing via wifi' is toggled on. Also, note that the phone and computer need to be connected to wifi.
Copy the http address below where it says ‘sharing via wifi’. Leave the app open while we transition to your computer.
Step 4 - Go to your computer’s web browser (Google Chrome or Firefox or whatever you have) and type in the address that’s in the VLC app (under sharing via wifi) on your phone. Hit enter.
Step 5 - Click the video you want to download and you’re done!

Hey, when I copy the address of the video to my browser, it gives me this error: ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT. I tried everything; whitelisted it on my popup-blocker; disabled windows defender, and McAfeè firewalls and realtime scan; NOTHING. What do I do wrong?

Dude, you are a lifesaver! I had a video assignment for school that I took on my iPhone, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get it onto my windows laptop so I could turn in the video. This worked like a charm. You are amazing!

Absolute lifesaver!!! Spent an embarrassing time trying to get these files moved to PC and this worked like a charm. If you have issues downloading from the website it could be your browser. Firefox would only play the file instead of downloading for me, but switching to Edge worked immediately. Im sure there’s a setting/permission that could be enabled on whichever you are using I just couldn’t find the right one.

It worked 100%. You've just saved me a ton of time. Thank you very VERY much. The only hick up I found was that, after the download, the video needed to be played with VLC media because the windows player was missing a codec to play it. So if you end up in this situation, install VLC on your computer as well and you should be good to play it without any problem.

Thanks for the extra info! I also recommend getting VLC for desktop (it has a volume booster which comes in handy as well as many other tools). If someone doesn't want the VLC on their desktop, I believe you may be able to download a codec for windows media player that is compatible with the file type or you can convert the file to windows media player format. Actually, now that i say that... I believe VLC can convert files too.. You know what, just download VLC! lol

Think you for saving my life. Following your way, I transferred my daughter's 1:32 ' 5.5G video to PC in 4 mins. The PC was connected with Ethernet cable to the router, and iPhone with 5G WiFi.What a simple and easy way! and it is free !!!!

bro you are doing the lords work. better than actual websites out there that dont have this VLC tip. in fact wondering why VLC is not as high up on itunes store given how amazing this discovery and technology is that they have created. sucks on apple that they make it so difficult. i had made a mashup on 1SE that was too large to export, their app wouldnt export on itunes, google drive crashed, onedrive crashed, except VLC worked. prayer hands!!!!

BRO THIS WAS A LIFE SAVER!!! i had to do a video on my phone for my class in college during my finals week this week, and It was 20% of my whole grade. i kept sending and sending and sending my email the video and i wasnt getting it. this was SOOOO quick and easy. holly crap $300 life saver. now i will pass my class and not just waste a whole symester of my life and $300, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. i have no idea what content you make, but you get a sub and a like from me. This is the first foolproof way to copy any and all videos to my PC that I’ve ever seen. VLC seems to do so well that I wish they could write an OS to replace windows. Ha ha.

Hey, first off, love the user name! I’m not sure about the other way... I’m usually only trying get crap off of my phone and not the other way around.... I would probably use Dropbox for that.

I appreciate this video so much. What it led me to is a much better option for those on a Mac (and maybe PC). I had a 500GB video I tried to get from my iPhone to my Mac. Image Capture kept shutting down. It took literally 36 hours to transfer via WiFi. A friend told me about using apps and finder to get it. I hard wire connected my phone to my computer, accessed it in Finder and then found went to files and then VLC and dragged them to my computer. a 250 GB file took a couple or few hours, but much faster than the wifi option. And with the WiFi route it seems the process will stop if you move out of the app for a text, phone call, etc. so for 36 hours I couldn't use my phone. Thanks!

excellent advise which is working. However why the f....hell is it not possible to just copy and paste files from an iphone to a windows computer using the file explorer. That would be straight forward. But of course not your fault; your advise saved the day.
