Edit: summary of tips: 1) Enter a country of which you are a citizen (or a bloc of countries where you have no stay restrictions e.g.: Schengen or Mercosur) with that country’s passport. 2) Exit a country with the same passport you entered with. 3) Show the airline the passport for your destination. 4) Consider entering a country with the passport that has fewer restrictions. E.g.: visa in advance vs. visa on arrival. If there is no difference, its up to you.

When I show the airline the other passport which passport number I give at booking the ticket? Because I show the borde guard the passport which U enter with and then at the new border the other passport?😅

Andrew here is an occurrence, and I kid you not. It is actually a number of things linked together. 1) I am a US citizen by birth. I have a USA citizen with an India Tourist Visa. My background is India. I go to India, and I am harassed as to why I do not have OCI by the India immigration. Initially I did not have an OCI. I got my OCI a few years later. Anyway, India still expects anyone of Indian background to have an India passport or OCI. Note: India does not allow dual citizenship, and the India passport is worthless. This is why I got my OCI. 2) the second concerns India and my wife. My wife is a dual US and Vietnam citizen. She rarely carries her Vietnam passport (since expired). It's "useless" for travel outside of a few countries in ASEAN. She got an India Tourist Visa in her US passport. She entered India on the US passport and India visa no problem. At departure from Mumbai back to Chicago, India Immigration harassed her when she presented the US passport. Why is your surname "Indian"? Why does your US passport list Vietnam as your birthplace? Why is your Vietnam passport expired? After I was cleared in another line, I approached the India Immigration Officer and introduced myself as her husband. He quickly changed his tone, looked at me. I showed him our Vietnam marriage certificate with English translation and notarizations. He then stamped her US passport and let her through to the jet. He had a sheepish disposition on his face after I introduced myself him. So, this shows you how people treat foreigners in India sometimes.. particularly with passports. I definitely know in both cases they were perhaps expecting some bribe (grease) to get through. That never happened, as apparently they know that Americans don't do that, and potentially will do something to get the officer in trouble. The only other time that I encountered anything odd was in Vietnam. I was traveling with a 5 years visa exemption in my passport. They usually ask who is my wife? I point to her behind me, or appropriate. They stamp my passport and let me through. Also my wife does not enter Vietnam on a Vietnam passport. She uses the 5 years exemption she has in her US passport. She wants US Consulate protection in Vietnam as a US citizen if needed...she also doesn't want to be harassed by immigration in Vietnam. They treat Vietnam citizens poorly.

Diplomatic support form consulates/ foreign missions is a factor to be considered as well. Suppose if the visitor has an issue in the visiting country, the consulates probably have legal right to refuse support to its own citizens as they have not transited with home country's passport?. while seeking consular support they look for how the person has entered ? and a better way to get around would be to check diplomatic ties between the visited country and home country

Andrew, Thank you for this video. Yes currently I have two passports I am a Dual National(US-Mexican). However what confuses me is that on my Mexican Passport it has both my last names Paternal and Maternal. On my return to the United States do I need to call the Airline to change my last name, since on my United States passport it only has one last name which is the paternal last name. I have heard that I should be okay as long as I show both passport to the airline counter at the Airport on my return to the US? Hope you answer my question. Note I obtained my US Citizenship through Naturalization and have Mexican Citizen through birth as I'm originally from Mexico.

love love this video! great work! now i have a question just to make sure I do this right, layman's terms lol. So my wife is a US citizen and a vietnamese citizen, so all she has to do is register her vietnamese passport when booking the flight from US to VN then just use her vietnamese passport at the airport all the way to VN then when we come back just use the US passport all the way back? Or do we use the VN passport in the VN airport departing then use the US passport once in US? Thank you so much!

Thanks But I still need some advice. I am dual citizen USA / Mexico traveling to Spain, Italy, and Greece this summer (2024), round trip between Los Angeles and Barcelona, I really rather use my Mexican passport to travel because I have never really used it. I also have SENTRI/Global entry/ TSA precheck. Should I list my American passport on my plane ticket since its round trip? Could I list my USA passport but use my Mexican passport when I get to customs in Spain? Please advise!

Andrew, I have a question is it true that to travel to any European Countries US Citizens and Mexican Citizens will be required to apply for E-visa or ETA Visa not sure what is the difference, in 2024?
@iciici2859

Electronic visa is a visa that you apply for electronically, and is delivered electronically (digitally). ETA is the name of the e-visa in the EU, like ESTA is the name of the American e-visa. And yes it's true

Nice video Andrew.. Quick question, I'm a citizen of an African country living in the u.s on a work visa. I plan on acquiring a carribean citizenship soon. I would then love to travel to countries my African passport cannot support like Schengen Europe. Would that mean I would exit the USA with my African passport that has the visa, and enter Europe with my Caribbean passport?

Hi Andrew. I have a question. I have a UK passport and Russian. I bought return ticket to Thailand and also I am going to travel to Vietnam - Thailand during my stay in Thailand by UK passport. British can stay in Thailand for 1 month. However, from 1st November there is some update for Russian citizens, they can stay for 3 months. Could I show my Russian passport to an immigration officer and my UK passport to airline staff?

Hi Andrew i need your help, I do have dual citizenship, a Middle Eastern country & US and I’ve never been to the US or travelled using my US passport. Is the US border so strict? that they would ask why I have no stamp on my US passport, cuz I live in the other country? And the transit country “Lufthansa, Germany” are harsh on this situation or you have no idea?
@tizianberchtold1067
@tizianberchtold1067 3 месяца назад
No, if they ask, just tell them why you don't have a stamp.

I almost got deported from Germany on exiting cuz I entered on my French (EU so freedom of movement with Germany) passport but tried to exit on my British one which had no stamp in it. Border guard got pretty mad at me once I showed him the mistake after he was confused for a bit 😂😂
@patrick1992

You don't need a visa with both citizenships but I would recommend travelling with your EU citizenship inside of the EU.

Nomad Capitalist, I’m currently in Japan with my US passport on my last 90 day visa totaling max 180 days per year. I have dual citizenship in the Philippines and was wondering if I can re-enter Japan with Philippine passport without issues being that I’ve spent max 180 days in Japan on tourists visa with US passport?
