a 12 year old boy on my sons baseball team was hit in the chest while pitching (on 7/1/17). He went into Cardiac Arrests. Died. 2 parents at the field from the medical field performed CPR...brought him back. He got released from the hospital on 7/3--NO brain damage or heart damage. This was primarily because of CPR being administered right away. A real miracle :)!!! I say all that to say I would love to see you do a CPR video . Keep up the good work!
Great video. As a nurse with lots of wound care experience, Betadine is used to clean the wound/blisters. Then apply your Vaseline adaptic and preferably cover with a non-stick gauze pad. Excellent videos. Just recently subscribed and getting ready to start my own medical prep channel. 😃
You know a lot of folks, IMHO, think that the stuff you are demonstrating here is just over the top Prepper type nonsense, but I disagree. Most folks will experience various types of burns in their lifetimes and knowing how to treat these wounds properly is an advantage. So, Skinny Medic, you do bring value to those of us that want to learn. Thanks.
As a welder/fitter I constantly deal with superficial and partial thickness burns. For me, on superficial burns I’ll use comfrey salve and aloe with lidocaine. Partial thickness burns, depending on size I deal with on a case by case occurrence.
If you damage the roof of your mouth place a piece of cheese between your tongue and the roof and create suction with your tongue against it pressing tight against the roof this will provide pain relief
Awesome video! I recently got a ~3% second degree burn working on a motorcycle. I'm glad to know that I treated it correctly. Long term, though, I would not recommend using the petroleum dressings on the wound. After the second day or so, those dressings started to stick to the wound despite their petroleum impregnation. The telfa type pads seemed to work much better!
Great video again! Can you open little bit chemical burns and especially white phosphorus, what to use for stop burning reaction, treatment and equipment what you need it.
+SkinnyMedic Hey. Not burn related, but Im really interested in expedient wound treatment with houshold, or commonly available items, should you not have proper equipment available. For example, could compressed towelettes be used for wound packing? Could Knox gelatin be used as a coagulant/wound sealant? That sort of thing.
While cooking my husband accidentally poured boiling water onto his mid section!!! Within an hour or so, blisters appeared. But I did know I could cool it first so I didn't. I sprayed it with Dermaplast, the he applied double antibiotic ointment, and we put sterile gauze on it. The only thing I didn't have was medical tape so general tape and banaids is what we use to get us through the night! He wanted to pop the blisters but our daughter and I convinced him not to! Tysm for your videos!!!
First Degree Burns: "Oh man, I spent too much time in the sun. Damn!" Second Degree Burns: "OW! Damn cooking oil always splattering! 😠" Third Degree Burns: "Does anyone else smell burnt pork?"
Interesting. I just finished training and am now a combat medic and our procedure for burns was a little different. We were taught to never put cream on partial or full-thickness burns. We were taught dry dressing only. I see what you mean with the dressing sticking so I’m interested as to why there is a bit of conflict between what you’re saying and what we were taught. Might be because we are short term care. Not sure. Great video though!
this was an excellent video I shared it with a friend who has a second degree burn but is in a remote country at the moment and can't get to medical attention at this time.
Another great video, thanks! With regards to long term wound care on 1st and 2nd, I always use povidone-iodine fabric dressings as an antiseptic and healing aid which get changed daily.
One treatment I have seen a study on with positive results for 2nd degree burn treatment is potatoes. The potatoes are pealed, washed real well, sliced thin and steeped in a weak water/iodine solution. The thin soaked potatoes slices are then placed on the burn then wrapped with gauze. The potato acts as the bodies natural skin preventing infection and aids in healing.
This seems similiar to the ability of potato to heal / make better, stings from certain plants and insects. I think it's a 'grandmother recepy' across the world.
Cling film is the best thing for burns. It only sticks to itself, is waterproof and you can continue to cool the burn by pouring water over the film. Awesome stuff in an emergency!
I would like to add one important note to burns from chemicals as a person working in a lab. It is very important to know what kind of chemical caused the burn since some chemicals have very violent reactions with water.
Whats about Compress with Silver or Honey ??? So 1st Degree Burn I do just after sun or cooling gel 2nd and 3rd Degree I do 1st stop the burning by removing if possible 2nd cleaning with sterile Pads 3nd cleaning with normal Temp water 4th do the painkiller on 2nd Degree Burn Type 5th Then a watered or vaseline bandage. Do not touch without being Sterile and do seal the spot and do not touch a blister.
Also, NEVER put ice on a burn the shock that comes from the drastic change in temperature causes more damage to the area. stick to cool water or burn creams like said in the video.
I developed blood poisoning by using aloe vera plant on a second degree burn when I was a teenager. It wasn't sterile and caused serious problems. USE CAUTION and maintain sterile.
Dude, I came across a patient with mild 1st and 2nd degree burns from hot oil... it all came out okay, but burns are such a "sticky wicket" (cover, don't cover, wet, dry, meds, no meds) please consider covering this. Thank you for what you do... Be well.
Great video, thanks. I've also read that honey is a option for burns. On the side, have you done anything on snake bites for people far away from medical help? Thanks
Great video...thank you! Accidently wrapped my hand a young a 40wt damn hot light bulb 3 hrs ago and it burns like he'll when I take it out of the bowl of cold water....I I better go to ER.. ITS Looking red a d burning feeling WONT STOP.
I have a friend that says putting toothpaste on a burn will help. Would it really help or would it just make it worse? I'm genuinely curious as to how it would help (if it does)
Skinny Medic have you ever heard of putting raw egg on a 2nd or 3rd degree burn? Something to do with the collagen being absorbed during the burn process helps with healing later. I can't remember were I heard this, wondering if it is true.
It could be me, but I have tried to find your web page to purchase some of your kits and supplies and there seems to be a bunch of skinny medic sites. I'm at a loss as to how to find your stuff. HELP
be very careful with fireworks just incured a whole hand second degree burn from an old package of party fuse i was gonna just light a toss to get rid of as it looked like it had got wet fyi i seen two little sparks before it traveled a 5 inch lenght and hit the roll.and exploded in a split second
could you specify im a medic in the army and my teachers always told me not to antibiotics to burn pt because it kills the good bacteria in the skin thats helping heal the wound.
great video this was a good refresher for me. One thing wouldn't you want to moisten the dressing for 2nd and 3rd degrees so they don't stick or do ER.s prefer them dru?
It depends on what book you read ... You can do try sterile but just be prepared for it to stick to the burn ... the don't want moist because if your putting it on a large body surface area you can lower the core temp and that isnt good either
SkinnyMedic thanks Doc! When I was in the army 80-84 there was a mindset taught to us. There were 3 people you never pissed off they were the Mess Sergeant the Supply Sergeant and you medic
I got get a partial thickness 2nd Degree Burn on my left foot on “10-02-2022” with a small 1 quart pot of boiling water that I was taking up the stairs very early in the morning to place in my bathroom sink drain because the night before I had poured some lye drain opener and as I walked the stairs the handle from the pot suddenly and unexpectedly just broke all the hot water fell onto my left foot. I let a scream and ran to the bathroom and place my left under cold water for like 20 minutes. The pain was excruciating, painful enough to make a grown man cry. I went the urgent care center closest to me which was a block away they put “Silver Sulfadiazine 1% Cream” and gave me some medical supplies like gauze and non adhesive Oil Emerson films and a NSAID for the pain. Actually the Urgent Care did bare minimum, when I did research online and I found other people who went through the same thing that I went through, a lot of them said go to a hospital unit that specializes in burn wound treatment today “10-13-2022” that’s where I went. They did a much better job, then the urgent care did. The burn doctor specialist first remove all the dead skin and then he put on some some of the cream and he took a nice high quality circular gauze and wrap it all around my foot and very happy burn unit’s way of doing it. Always find a hospital that has a burn unit. Don’t wait time at regular hospitals or urgent care centers. And please everyone check your cookware for any worn or loose handles. You don’t to place yourself or your love one through a unnecessary pain experience. Heed the warning.
If you use the plant Aloe Vera that works great for burns, but the active ingredients break down so quickly that by the time any thing that says "aloe vera" reaches the store it is just a marketing gimmick.
IDK if it's true but a guy told me he got a bad sunburn while in the army and he got in bad trouble for "damaging government property", is that really a thing?
+SkinnyMedic hey i got a nice 2d burn on my hand. the blister is not that large, was wondering how long should i keed it warped in steril 4x4/ gauze? Its been 3 days now. thanks.
Thanks for the great videos, they're really informative. I know this was put up a year ago but I have a question about the vaseline gauze. If you didn't have a proper bandage could you not just put vaseline on the burn and then wrap it in regular gauze? Or are they made in some special way so that wouldn't work?
