Thank you, very helpful. My Cane Corso hates having his nails trimmed and even the vet has trouble getting them done because he's so big and they seem to get nervous about his size. I've been successful doing it at home now thanks to your video.
I’m always so nervous about even getting close to the quick. From the top down, there’s a distinct line where the pink starts, but from the side when I shine a light, the pink seems to stick out a bit further. I don’t cut anywhere near that, but it feels like I’m barely cutting anything at all. I’ve had much more success with a grinder. Mostly because it makes me feel more confident by smoothly working then down than snapping chunks of nail off at a time.
If your dog is REALLY traumatized by all clippers, ive learned you can use a nail filer as long as u do it more frequently. That may help some ppl give their dogs more confidence to work towards clippers.
My dog is already traumatized to cutting her nails but really scare to do it myself she move herself to much wrong spot is cause to bleed that is when she never want to do that again 😳😵
I have a rescue and her nails never got cut. I took her to the groomers and they nip the quick. Took her back and she almost hung herself, I had to yell for them to stop. Now I have resorted to sneak attack trimmin. When she a sleep I clip one nail, she wakes gives me the look of death and I just walk away
Hey, do you have any advice for a deaf dog who pulls away as soon as you hold their paw? Like I'm trying treats but it doesn't seem to work! And I don't wanna accidentally hurt her. Do you know anything that might help?
Well you could try a powered file. You can usually find them online, that’s where I got mine. They are pretty much like the files they use when you get acrylics done, just more powerful for the dogs nails.

My dog has all brown nails, I trim my dogs nails very daily and just tip the tip because his blood vessels are very far out, is there a way to fix this? it can’t be comfortable for him with long nails. He doesn’t show discomfort but I still feel like he could walk more comfortable with a bit shorter nails. Would be very happy for any advice :)
If you’re trimming them daily, you’re probably not giving enough time for the quick to recede on its own. I have the same problem with my dogs having really long nails and it would be so hard to trim them because they don’t like their paws touched, which meant i would go too long between trims. So what the vet tech told me was once they trim them, even if it’s just a little bit, wait a week or two and the quick will recede a little bit. Once it recedes a little bit you can do another little trim, and as time passes the quick will recede and get shorter and shorter. Hope that helps:)

One of my dogs has dark nails. I was told to trim a tiny bit at a time and once you see a dot in the center that means you are getting close to the quick and it’s time to stop trimming .
@@laurajean89 Never thought of flour! She does say here how to stop it though. I don’t have flour, or anything else but soap. So, I’ll keep that on stand by....
That’s the problem I have with my dogs, my dogs dont like their paws touched, so i would take them to the vet to get clipped, but at $35 a trim, and 2 dogs, i couldnt afford to do it often enough, and plus they could only trim a tiny bit . One of the vet techs explained to me that the longer their nails grow, the longer the quick will grow, so the solution to that is to trim them more often. She told me to do a little trim and then wait maybe a week or two for the quick to recede a bit, and then trim them again. What happens is each time you trim them , the quick will recede and get shorter and shorter, which will help you clip their nails shorter also
