How to cut and trim rooster spurs
we had to trim his spurs because he was causing significant injury to his hens
The best way to hold the rooster is upside down, this position is very calming for chicken despite how unfortable it may seem to us 😄
and dog nail clipper used on medium to large dogs should do the trick
use a flashlight or light feature on your cell phone to shine through the nail to see where the quick is (the quick is like a blood vessel within the nail)
once you have found the quick its safe to cut

I thought pulling off the outer shell was painless. I didnt see the rooster squirming when that done in other videos so im confused now.

Removing the spurs of a rooster is VERY painful for them. It also leaves a bloody mess. It is however a permanent solution to spurs but I wouldn't recommend it personally.😊

@@honeychildhomestead ill keep that in mind. I got a buckeye rooster that flew into my yard. He ended up getting mauled by my dog twice. I nursed him back and he is recovering very well. The good news is hes now chill with me and follows me everywhere and lets me pet and pick him up without a fight. Thats when i noticed his spurs are cut or grinded all the way down to his yellow foot. So according to what you said, whomever owned him before, mustve put him in severe pain.

@honeychildhomestead I had seen a video of a guy pulling the spur out. It appeared to be hollow though? And he said it would wind up growing back eventually..now I'm confused 😅 I'm a new rooster owner and I have 2 of them.
