Thank you so much for making this video!!! I've got to be mother and father for my boyo. And nothing makes him think i'm the best mom in the world more than helping improve his power wheels jeep ;)
thanks man didnt have to go any further than cleaning up the accelerator pedal switch and we were on go ,, found this thing on the curb ,, battery was still good ,, heck of a find for my 6 month old grandson Maverick !!
Thank you for the information! We bought a brand new Range Rover, discovery power wheels for our son, upon first use it stopped driving in forward but would work in reverse. Now it’s fixed and I understand how the system works for future repairs!
Super helpful. Was able to narrow it down to one of the switches in the gear selector. Pulled the switch apart and found a crack on the side that allowed the electrical contacts to not touch. My wife thought it was sexy I figured it out but I just followed your instructions. Thanks!
I’ve got a fleet of 3 now for the refurbish reason. Barbie jeep turned green monster with lights and all. Dune buggie shenanigans, and tonka truck full dump back. All running off my Milwaukee 12ah beasts. :)
I curb shopped 2 of these for my Son. I hope between the two, I can make at least one runner. Neither had a battery, so I opted for a lawn tractor battery.
Just picked up a truck for my daughter that was free and this will certainly be handy for me getting back running. I suspect the motor is donezo but this will allow me to confirm
I've got a First Drive Mustang blue electric toy car, with no power when I hit the power button. I used volt-meter and checked the battery is fine, the charger port is fine. There are three wires, red and white go to the battery and a third grey wire goes to some module.. can you tell me how to troubleshoot?
All 5 of these test as expected, but when I try to determine which lead powers 12v to the pedal, I put the black lead into a black wire plug but then all 3 spots don’t show voltage. Sign of bad wiring/batter connector?
I picked up a jd gator looking one of the curb awhile back. I hate the batteries that come with them. I ended up using a Milwaukee drill adapter. It runs well, kids love taking hay to the horses in it.
My daughters is charged and will go if I hold the power button but if I just push the power button it won’t power on it just flashes the the back lights. What do you think is the problem. I don’t have an ohmmeter to test everything.
Thanks for this. I got as far as the foot pedal test on my own. My model doesn't have a safety relay, but I was unsure about the switches in the shifter and how the power was routed through those pins. Simple simple once I had that. Thanks so much!
My daughter has a 6 volt kalee trail racer atv that works in reverse but not in forward direction. I'm going to test the forward neutral reverse switch with my multimeter similar to what you did in this video, but is it safe to assume that's the issue? Loved the video, liked and subscribed. Thank you!
@@thedoubtfultechnician8067 The switch seemed to pass the continuity test, but the ohm reading seemed to jump around and was not consistent. I reversed the switch and was able to get the vehicle to move forward, but would not move backwards. Ordered the new switch last night so I will provide an update once that part gets in.
Our power wheels runs in reverse and low speed without issue. When in high speed the tires will only spin when lifted off the ground. As soon as my kids sit in it the motors torque up but then immediately shut off. Any ideas?
Great video - good advice. My sons power wheel jeep only has reverse now. Forward isnt working. I upgraded his battery to a Ryobi 18V and he's been riding it with no issues for a month. then all of a sudden yesterday he went to get in it and it doesnt go forward. when he hits the pedal while in forward you can hear a click noise then nothing happens. reverse works fine. do you have any suggestions? thank you in advance
I haven't hooked anything up to check connections, but I'm thinking it's the main controller. Battery clicks every time pedal is engaged. Brand new, unused battery with same result. I was really hoping to. Avoid taking it completely apart. I think I'll have to upgrade it to 18v or 24v while I'm at it.
goodday i have a problem with my power wheels it doesn't have enough power to back up it works but it not enough to back up, moving forward is ok. what are your thoughts in this?
Picked up a dune racer… having a super weird issue with the high speed mode. It works when there isn’t weight on the powerwheel but doesn’t work if there is weight (if I push down or have my kid on it). Kinda puzzled
I would start troubleshooting by measuring the battery voltage as you step on the pedal with weight on it. It should drop a few volts under load. If it doesn’t drop any, that’s a wiring or switch issue. If it drops a lot, then your battery is likely toast.
@@thedoubtfultechnician8067 ok, so my go switch seems to be good then. my battery is reading 12.6v but i havent checked it under load or swapped out with known good battery yet. ill try swapping out battery 1st and then move to the 3rd area in your video. thanks
Hello, my son has a battery powered car (12v). I got it from a friend but it has been plugged in overnight and it turns on (it didn't before) but when we press the gas pedal it seems to short out. Could it be the charger, battery, combo?
Hi! Thanks for the video. My car-crazy son managed to get a really good electric 4x4 for his birthday. He took his new role as toy-car owner very seriously, and I found him, not long after getting it, outside proudly giving the thing a really thorough wash down with the hose 😬. It hasn't worked since and we cannot afford to pay someone to take a look at it. Understandably he's gutted and spends a lot of time just sitting in the thing pretending to drive it. It starts up fine (including the very loud annoying radio) but no movement at all. Do you think this could be the pedal switch?
Lucky kid! Bet he’s pretty pissed. Does it work with the remote control? I doubt the switch itself is bad- I would suspect a blown fuse or a damaged electronic module.
Hi, great video but I need some further help. Everything works on my kid's Dune Racer except when he is in it, it will stutter, like go and stop intermittently when the pedal is pressed. It doesn't do that if the back is lifted up and I'm just pressing the switch. Background: I had added another 12 V battery to make it 24. Used cheap wire from Amazon. The connections are secure but maybe the wire is no good? Or maybe it is just the switch?
24V is almost definitely too much for the motors, wiring, and switches. I know people do 18V conversions but that’s even pushing it. You could have undersized wiring, switch contacts corroding from arcing, or melted brushes. Or any combination of the three.
My mustang runs fine, but the radio and other sound effects do nothing even with 3 new aaa batteries. What Can I do about getting the sound box to work?
This video goes over the switches @5:06. I would also check the motors, if there are two and one is burned out or disconnected it would only work in high speed but not low. Raise the back end and see if both wheels are spinning in high. If only one is spinning, you have a bad motor.
I have a powerwheel boomerang and i cant find out whats wrong with it. I've recently mod it to the ryobi battery charger. The powerwheel will flash green for like a few seconds then change to blue. My son can ride it for like 2 seconds then it dies and we would have to disconnect the batter and reconnect to start up again. Any ideas? Much appreciated!
@@thedoubtfultechnician8067 OK. What's the fix if that's the problem? Sorry, I have 0 knowledge about cars like these but I really appreciate the help.
Yeah, realistically you won’t be able to diagnosis this without one. You only need the most basic one. You could try removing the motors and swapping sides to see if the problem follows the motor or not.
One question please, I have bought a car for my son and I changed the motors, I put in higher revs. my problem is that it works for 15 seconds and then it turns off by itself and turns on after 5 seconds. this happens constantly. it had a 12v battery 4.5Ah and I put a new 12v 9Ah one but it still does the same thing. Do you know what the problem is? Can you help me?
@bambamyt5915 Do both motors quit? Or just one? If both motors quit it is likely a wiring issue in the car. When they quit, try measuring the voltage at the motor and see if you still have a 12 volts.
@@thedoubtfultechnician8067 It shuts off the whole car completely, neither lights nor radio work and it starts again by itself. this happens all the time. the battery is new and I measured it and it is 12.3v if I remember correctly. after the battery there is a fuse, these days it will I'll also change the fuse, I'll put a bigger one to see if that's where the problem lies.
Did a curb pick up on a dynacraft. Changed battery to lifepo4, pedal and shifter and still nothing. I wished I knew how to better trouble shoot like you. Lights comes on when switched but once pedal is pushed lights turns off and no go :/
It sounds like you have too much current draw. I suspect either the motors are locked up/shorted out. If you unplug the motors, step on the pedal, and the lights don’t go out I think that’s got answer. You can also try measuring voltage to the motor wires while they’re unplugged and see if they’re getting voltage.
Model? Sounds like the brake reduction module or a wire to it has failed. Basically just a resistor to load down the motors when not on the accelerator.
Just wanted to let you know that your sticker on the lift should be censored. The one that says " operated by F***wits. Seeing as how this video is for kids toy vehicles. Besides that thank you very much for the video, it was very creative and helpful. God bless!
My relay is is showing the right volts without having to push on the peddle. Is that weird? I have 4 of these can't get a single one to work. 3 of them are brand new.
Power goes to the relay at all times, but the coil in the relay itself only gets power when the pedal is pressed. So you should have power to one pin all the time and two pins when you press the switch. My guess is you’re checking the wrong pin
Love what you said at the end. Being your kids hero is priceless. We have a keep that won’t work. Not the battery. Our 6 grandkids are wanting to drive it so bad. It breaks our hearts and I’m trying to figure how to fix before curbsiding it.
Ohm readings for pedal and gear selector switches start at 1.2 and drop to 0.6. Is this okay/normal? Or are all my switches bad? Great video. Helped me a lot so far.
I have a 14.4v Lithium Ion Battery version. I have it torn apart and no idea how it works, and I'm pretty frustrated at this point. Any chance you could help? Happy to pay you.
