Just came across this video and man this is like one of the only videos talking about anything relating to a Vantage. I had a quick question since you seem pretty knowledgeable, my vantage just recently stopped working out of nowhere on me. It won’t turn on and the engine protection light is on. Oil and radiator fluid is good also. My guess is that either the temp sensor or oil pressure switch might be out so that’s why it’s not turning on? I don’t know much about working on machines but I would appreciate it if you or anybody else here could point me in the right direction!
I found this very informative video after my vantage 300 stopped producing power. I ran all the checks you mentioned. Unfortunately i had no luck in finding the problem. What i did find is that at the bridge rectifier where the 200 wire connects, if i disconnected the wire to the filter capacitor that piggybacks this connection i get 12vdc. Once reconnected i only get a millivolt reading. The capacitor doea not show any voltage across the terminals nor does it read anything in microfarads when tested. Do you think it could be the capacitor. I replaced it with one off eBay and still the same. Maybe the ebay one us faulty also????
GOOD VIDEO, WE HAVE A VANTAGE 400 AMPER THE MACHIE GIVING A TROBBLE NO WELD OUT PUT, NO AUXILARY POWER. IWAS LOOKING THAT, BRUSHS ARE GOOD , ROTOR GOOD, I GOT THE VOLTAGE UP TO THE RECTIFIERR . AC 70 VOLT BOTTOM SIDE OF THE RECTIFIER AND 90 VOLT DC ON TOP. BUT I DONT SEE ANY LIGHTS COMING ON THE CHOPPER BOARD. WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP TO TEST PLEASE HELP ME.
You need to check and see if you're getting power to chopper board, if you are getting power in but not out it's bad. If you call Lincoln Electric and talk to a tech they can tell you what wires to test I do not know off the top of my head, have code number ready.
Mine lost power just like this one. I changed bridge rectifier and everything comes back on then it smokes bridge rectifier after 30 seconds and machine loses voltage outage again. What might I check. Thanks
Please can I have some advice on my ranger 305 d , I’m having problems with lower output than amp readout @300amp, the clamp meter says 170amp @200amp I’m getting 120 , the 240v outlet seems to work fine as does the 110v , thanks for any help
Please help! I got a Lincoln vantage 300, when I flip the start switch the battery light comes on but the oil pressure light doesn’t. The machine turns but won’t start. Could it be the oil pressure switch?
Great video! Got a few questions for you, if you've got the time to respond. How common is it for the rotor to fail? Is it usually the windings shorting the slip ring to the shaft, or is it more common to cause an open between the two slip rings? Is it more common for the cheaper parts to fail, like the capacitor or rectifier bridge, or circuit board failure? I guess my basic question is how bad do they usually fail? I have a chance to buy a 2012 Vantage 300 without weld output and don't know if it would be worth the effort and cost to tear into it. I don't want to give more than $1,000 for it if it will cost me $2500 in parts. Any help, or thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.
Vantages can be good machines, Ive heard people love them and get thousands of hours out of them with no major problems. They run and weld good until they don't. I would say the biggest issue with the vantages is the cheap plastic or composite molded rotors. I see more rotors go bad than anything. Yes boards also go out but probably 90% of the time if youre getting no power at all and stays in high idle the rotor is shorted. The rotor last I checked was around $2500. Usually when a board goes bad it will stop welding in a setting or start welding spurraticly. Check out my video on testing armatures if you havent already.
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the information. That's what I was afraid of on those rotors. I think I'll shoot the fella a very low offer and see where it goes from there. Least he could say is no! I really like the vantage specs on paper. I think it would be better than what I have now, and an SA200 is inadequate with the farm equipment and under ground water pipe repair I mainly do. I've got an 08 Ranger GXT now and would like the robustness of a diesel for generating power for water pumps and my small fusion machine. Thanks for the info.
@@kgfarmfab8807 why not go to a machine shop and have them make an adaptor plate for a diesel motor. Of your choice. Might be cheaper to put a bigger motor on your gxt.
Will the amperage adjust with the knob? Have you checked voltage at the terminals with a meter? Any difference in different settings? Remote switch in local? Have you dropped your panel and checked wiring?
