Hello Mr. Terry Hill. Wow. It has been quite a few years now. Yes. Back about 20 years. This is J. 'SpiritWolf'. I was one of your students at the Airbrush Action 'Get-Away' in New Jersey around 1994. Although it has been many years? I still owe you a huge 'Thank You' for spending the extra time with me then. I was able to support my daughters as a single father at the time and becoming the father I wanted to be. We have done it and they are now 25 and 27. So now I am a grand-father. Again. '"Thank You'. It is great that you are using the internet to share your talent. Please accept my offering of blessings for health, happiness and success for you and to those you love. Many Blessings, J. 'SpiritWolf' Vega.
Being a novice, I was ready to give up on my "no paintflow" problem until I watched this video. I had healthy airflow, but couldn't get even thinner or water to flow. You did one little thing that made all the difference that I didn't try: moving the needle back and forth while depressing trigger. My needle/nozzle was clean, but it turns out I had the needle way too forward. The instructions say to insert needle until you encounter resistance; I guess my idea of "resistance" was a little more than was meant....thanks again!!!
@@zhanosamuels9824 my airbrush was working very good and out of nowhere it started splattering and now The airbrush doesn’t even want to shoot out the water
I started airbrushing two months ago and Terry's amazing instructional DVDs were among the first ones I bought and work with. Also was checking on his vast amount of RU-vid vids. And till 5 minutes ago I thought maybe I'd be lucky enough to meet him one day... What a terrible loss for the Art work. We already loss another giant, Mike Lavallee. I think in the Blues song lyrics "Why the good die young"!
this video was extremely helpful for me! Most airbrush videos are not helpful, people just talk without saying anything concrete that helps. In this video I used every advice and it was extremely helpful. I can't praise it enough!
I don’t know how I didn’t find your videos before now, especially since I was constantly searching for info on how to know if airbrush issues are because of the brush, the paint or user error. Awesome info and exactly what I needed to see. Thx!
Hello Mr. Hill Fantastic it open my eyes. I'm going back after 40 years to building models and never understand why I have so much trouble with acrylic paints that I havent with Humbrol 40 years ago. They dry very fast and clocking my airbrush, sometimes doesn't matter what I tried. . So Thank you!!!!
Thank you very much. This is a big help to me since I am new to airbrushing and I have only done this a few times and was having these problems already and was getting quite disenchanted with airbrushing. Thanks again !
Like anything on the internet it takes a lot of searching to find someone who actually knows what they are talking about but better yet enunciates it the way it really is rather than going off and blah blah blah - yaddie yaddie yaddie. Great video I subscribed because anyone who has that many air brushes knows what they are talking about. I am just getting into it, I bought an Iwata HP-CS and also a Ophir Compressor with a Tank and it came with a airbrush gun with three needles which I think will come in handy if I need to spray any large area projects. Thanks again for the wonderful and great info You are truly blessed with knowledge and thanks for sharing. Blessings Pastor Randy Bourque - The Evangelist
i am always amazed at the number or brushes and colors at the ready?? One- how long can the paint in the bottles last without drying or causing problems?? you have to clean each brush that you use each day?? and you remember which one how???? I'm trying to buy 3 brushes and can't imagine what you did??
I like your setup. You really have 24 airbrushes with individual hoses? WOW! Are they all hooked up to work at the same time? That would be so cool not to have to worry about switching colors and cleaning in between all the time.
Basically Terry got this idea from Scott Wilson, who worked in the area, and later on Terry worked for Scott in the first ever two story airbrush hut inside a Walmart store. I was around when Scott got the place in fact I helped him build some of it one night just handing out really late. I believe Scott is still there. Scott setup could fold up out of the way even, I believe he tried to patent it too but it was like 40k so he just patented the drawings, not sure?
Man! what a bunch of good tips for a newby. It defenitely helps gain confidence in dealing with these temperamental and wicked little machines.! Youre great man! Salud !!
Thanks Terry for the great videos. It's nice to have the internet to help all of us that don't have proper schooling. Very impressive. Thanks again for all the help.
Thank you very much Terry for a very well done video and most informative. You remind me also of my dear departed brother. He passed 2 years ago and looked a lot like you.
Came back to this after a month or so of learning about airbrushing, and there`s quite a few tips mentioned by Terry here, that aren`t included in other videos :) Can`t wait to get enough saved up so I can start practicing with this awesome tool :D
A thing that may help with tip dry is using paint retarders, i have some for water based acrylic and for alcohol based as well. Dude, this video is extremely helpful to me as i am starting airbrushing for scale models soon. I can't wait.
this kind of explanation is what an eirbrush beginner like me needs, I have a question I only have two airbrushes one is a gravity feed and one suction feed(master airbrush), but I want to be painting shirts like yours, do you give classs or any course at least for one week??
I tough I add a bigger problem, and found because of your video that i was the problem! hahaha! I'm using automotive solvent base paint on car models. I did one with water base colors and add trubles with my air brush and you solved that! Thank tou for the tips!
I have absolutely no reason to know this info, but I must compliment your clarity in explanation. edit: hahha at the end I thought you were gonna say "so, in the the middle of the night, when you have a deadline, and you have no reason to be watching an airbrushing maintenance video..."
Great video, very informative. I just bought a floureon dual action gravity fed brush. Had no end of trouble with it. Had paint bubble back, paint blowing out the pot, i'm covered in paint, station is covered in paint. Infact everything bar the damn models i'm trying to paint is covered. I understand more how the brush works now. Thanks!
Thank you Terry very good advice. People might want to check out Josh Seaman attaboy airbrushing tips also. He keeps a small sponge damp with windex (ammonia free) in his hand to gently clean his tip while painting.
A loose pilot bushing inside the airbrush is often the source of a skipping spray pattern. I think most most manufacturers today don't allow the user to adjust the pilot bushing...with the old school Paasche VL (and others) you could tighten the packing nut on the pilot bushing and stop the skipping.
I just started using createx paint... new to doing clothing... mainly using my badger dual top feed but I bought two apache bottom feed... I'm running 30-40psi and I seem to can't get that precise point tip... and I havnt reduced the paint... was told the paint should be good to go... any ideas??
Thanks a ton. Had a very specific issue and you addressed it beautifully. Finally getting into airbrushing and I'm looking forward to checking out your channel
Terry Hill was part of HOT AIR, a small biz in a clothing store in Fort Walton beach right on the main drag, Hot Air was Don Ashwood & Terry Hill. How do I know this b/c I was a local sign painter and used to visit them before airbrushing took off in the Florida Panhandle. We would throw ideas back and forth at one another as artist respectfully, it was then 1986 maybe not sure when they opened their place inside the T-shirt store in Fort Walton bch, but I lived there in town and operated my own sign biz, called Boyd's Signs. It was really cool to go in there and hang out, they would always want to know what I was painting on as they did not do the type of work I did and I wanted to learn some of their trade skills and vise versa so it was great for the art scene. Like when they painted large murals which they had never done but I had or when I painted a 1962 Harley with a side car called "Dead Sled" for David Curshank, I needed a few tips on airbrushing although most everything I did was by hand, mixing the lettering enamels to shoot from a airbrush was something I hadn't done so again we helped one another. Those were great times. And now here I am again still painting only this time it is my own cars. I have two 1968 Firebirds which I am working on each will have a unique theme and I will remember those times as I do my finest work.
Great info but I'm still having trouble atamizing water in a new inexpensive top feed brush. Have some experience in bottom feed beginning brush. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks
Thanks for that very informative information Terry. I’m very new to airbrushing and constantly have problems. I have purchased 2 very cheap airbrushes (top feed and bottom feed) and expect there to be problems. The info you have supply has help enormously which will help me decide to invest in more up market brushes which I’m sure will eliminate variable amounts of problems being experienced. I have fairly big hands and find holding my airbrushes quite difficult. Do you have any suggestions on how I may be able to fix this? I also would like to know information in regards to needle size and their importance.
I see you are using -'Iwata Eclipse' is this your favoured tool, I love mine owing to the big nozzle & so easy to take apart & clean..or do you also use finer ones? Thankyou in anticipation ..
my Badger velocity is actually leaking from the airbrush body itself right behind the 2 threaded pieces at the front, I can't see a gasket or anything and have no idea what it could be, thoughts?
Terry has been eating good, put on a few pounds. I suggest switching to Michelob Ultra, it tastes like beer, contains alcohol, less carbs, and it does a fine job of washing down that Aquaflow. Glad to see you are also hooked on the Iwata Eclipse, some folks think I'm crazy, paying eleven dollars for a nozzle. Now, I can say, Terry does, too, lmao~Rick in Gatlinburg
Hi, I enjoyed watching your video. I have a neo iwata airbrush that keeps blowing bubbles in the cup. I stripped it down and cleaned everything. Still blowing bubbles. I don’t use it that often, but when I do I get frustrated with it. It seems to never work well. It’s new and I don’t know what to do. Any help? Thanks
,that was very informative, I've been wanting to finish up some projects . I thinned my paint used the pipette to put a little paint in the paint jar or whatever you call it , flipped the compressor on went to spray and nothing I have plenty of air and no paint coming out, I then tried to clean out the nozzle by spraying straight thinner and that wouldn't come out either. I saved up some money and bought an IWATA and worked out well compared to the less expensive Testors air brush but this time no paint but plenty of air. I thought it might be the compressor not having enough pressure since I model on a budget will I can afford is the blue see through compressor from Testors and I know it's not the best but it's all I got. I'm new to this air brushing stuff so I don't know a whole lot about the terminology or the workings of the thing so I hope cleaning the needle is all it takes. Thanks for the tips I'm sure they will help.
I've been fighting moisture even after using two moisture traps. Should I get a new compressor? I am currently using the central pneumatic air compressor.
Thanks. I have a new Sotar 2020. Air is coming out but no paint. Paint is thin. I have checked for clogs but cannot find any. Any suggestions? Thank you again.
Hello dear artist!!! I have a problem with my iwata eclipse HP-CS 0.35mm, when i press down ONLY for air a small amount of paint comes out!!! The air cap and head assembly are well at their posisition, what can go wrong? My needle is not bend , only thing i can think of is about my nozzle but at a first glance seems to be ok and clean
Thnx. I am designing and making 3D printed eyewear. I am new to airbrushing and just sprayed my second pair and decided to try some pearl powder. You can guess that it clogged on me. I lost 1 hour trying to find out how to get it solved when I decided to search on RU-vid. I had to pull out the needle. Thnx for the sollution!
