Should also use the belt at the thinest area of your abdomen to create the illusion of a smaller waist( for those who may be a little curvier than you are.)
Thumbs up for slow fashion. I knit, so I have lots of sweaters. That is the ultimate "slow fashion". Thanks for the great tips, they are super helpful as usual.
This has been out a while but it is still SO helpful. I'm only 5 ft tall and many sweaters even in petite sizes just look too long on me. All of these tips totally solve this problem!
I must tell you something:) I was just scrolling through pinterest today and I said to my partner that it feels super fun, just like shopping online would when I check out the looks and think about similar ways to style my own clothes! It helps me so much not to shop! And I think that is purely because of you! You are such an inspiration, thank you for all your hard work! Xxxx
Super helpful! I love when you explain the details and the "why"s. Also love your little cards off to the side which summarises the points you're making ❤️
I liked this. I roll my sleeves up. A Nordstrom’s salesman taught me how to do it with the garment OFF the body. Might work better on jean jackets, etc. He rolled the end ALL the way up to meet the elbow and THEN rolled it once more to meet the other roll halfway but it winds up a 3/4 length sleeve. He used his thumbs and really worked that fabric to a crisp edge. Different than sweaters I know. I love how it shows your tan (or great skin color) and your jewelry. My sleeves are alway covering my watch. I just got a great blazer where they built in a 3/4 sleeve as if you shoved it up yourself. So cute my mom bought one too. I love an individual look. Thanks.
Hi Catherine - yes! That's the J.Crew roll ;) Or at least that's where I learned to roll my sleeve cuffs that way. It's a very preppy look but works well for shirt sleeves. And totally agree with you on the cuffing for showing off wrists - we coer them up so much in the winter, so it's a bit more fun :) Thank you so much for watching!
So happy about the front tuck, not only from the fashion point of view but because it is a saver for me: I have ruined countless sweaters and T-shirts which got several little holes on the front due to rubbing against the “pointy” edge where one buttons up the jeans.
I don't know if you know the blog Wardrobe Oxygen, but she has a helpful post on exactly this (how to avoid getting those pinholes in your soft t-shirts due to rubbing against your jeans' buttons!))
yay! I'm so glad you liked it Jennifer! And yes - sans belt is totally an option :) The watch and a discount code is linked in the description box ;) just in case! Thanks for watching!
Great video. I've been "tucking" my sweaters since I was a teen. I am now 51. lol! This is an old fashion trick, that always looks great. I wish it was cool enough to start wearing my sweaters. I am in California. Yesterday it was over 90 degrees, today should be about the same. YUK!
1 Year already! Where have I been. I love your channel and I only 'discovered' it last month. I've been working my way through all the videos. My favourite is the recent one where you style a pleated skirt a lot of ways. Oh and I usually do a centre tuck, because most sweaters are too long on me. :)
yes! :) I can't believe it! Ah well I'm so glad you've enjoyed watching so far! And great point about the centre tuck being useful for longer sweaters! Thank you for watching! :)
I have been subscribed for only 1 month so did not realize that you have only been doing the blog for 1 year. I feel like I am in the beginning of something great because your style and personality are fabulous! With my long torso, I love belting and now will start tucking. Very rare for me to have sweater sleeves long enough for me to cuff since my arms are long but I still enjoyed the tip. Keep up the great work!!!
Hi Lynne! Thank you very much for the thoughtful words - your encouragement is so appreciated. As for the cuffing ... I also have longer arms and tend to cuff the sleeves so you can't tell they're too short lol So glad you liked the video and big thank you for watching :) Have a great week!
I had a girlfriend who isn't very fashion forward, say to me the other day; "You have your sweater caught in your jeans." LOL! I said it was on purpose and that it actually had a name. I love his trend!
I don't think you mentioned if the rise of the pant plays a roll. I've tried this half tuck many times, and so far it hasn't looked as nice on me. Of course I'm a size 12 so maybe it won't work for my size?
Ciao, Alyssa! So glad I found your channel a couple of months ago - I didn't realize you were so new on RU-vid! Congratulations on almost a year! I'm very much enjoying your content and your personality!
Gail Leone Ciao Gail! Thank you for your thoughtful and kind words! I'm so glad you're enjoying these videos and the channel :) thank you so much for watching!!
Oh i'm so glad Janice! I couldn't believe this video ended up being 9 minutes long for simple tweaks but glad you liked the extra info :) So appreciate you watching!
Thank you Lisa!! So glad you enjoyed the video - I'm so grateful for your support and encouragement :) Have fun styling your sweaters and wishing you a great week! xx
Love the tips but wish I didn’t feel self conscious with having a little pooch when trying these ideas! You’re adorable so everything looks great on you!
Thank you Alyssa for the tips. I do like the effortless looks. I have the same Moschino belt I bought a couple of decades ago. Anything that I see the Instagram fashion style influencers wear, have, are the things I will never buy. Ie. the double GG Gucci belt, the Gucci Marmont bag, the Loewe puzzle bag, Doc Martins, any other pieces I see over and over again. I am glad that Instagram exists to show me what to avoid. Ha ha ha! All is well! To each their own.
Hi Jeannette! Glad you liked the effortless vibe :) I totally hear your thoughts on Instagram ... I do find that interesting pieces lose their appeal when saturating the market ... your taste transcends time - love that you have an original Moschino ... I found mine at a vintage store in Rome. Thank you as always for watching and I wish you an amazing week ahead! xx
Alyssa Beltempo yes when everyone runs out to buy the same item, it starts to lose its appeal. I was never attracted to what is popular. So boring. The original Moschino belt, I found in a thrift shop. 🤓I liked the moving letters . Have a wonderful week Alyssa. When is your birthday? Are you a Libra too?
I love your style and your suggestions. Thank you for doing this! I was wondering, you briefly talked about how knotting can be hard and to best avoid washing after every time. What is your trick? I feel like I have to seriously steam or iron anything otherwise it is just too frumpled.
Thank you Allison, again useful and so funny to have your tips. Teasing for next video pick curiosity and congrats for this first year hope you will have long life on you tube. You’re my best blogger love your video and wait for them since I found you xxx
I enjoy seeing other women in this style but I couldn’t pull it off because I have a big tummy and not much of a backside. Do you have any suggestions for a body type such as mine that would give me that same cool, relaxed vibe? Thank you.
I'm so glad it's sweater weather! (Well, in the mid-Atlantic US, it transitional, but today is low 60s, so I can get away with a short sleeve sweater.) Thank you for your tips! I prefer only natural fibers, so I'm careful about pulling the sweater out of shape, but I do like to roll sleeves and tuck sweaters and play with layers underneath. Speaking of layers, I'd love to see you do a fall layering video. :)
Hi Christina! It's so important to take care of our clothes, glad you've found some tips that work with your natural fibre pieces. And thank you for the layering suggestion - love it! :) Thank you for watching and have a great week !
Hi Christina! It's so important to take care of our clothes, glad you've found some tips that work with your natural fibre pieces. And thank you for the layering suggestion - love it! :) Thank you for watching and have a great week !
Hi "tucky"! 🤗 I'm a "tucker" too. Give-a-way next week? How about Your Hair. I'd gladly wear it!! 😄 It's chilly here in Chi-land as well .. and go figure .. I'm drinking Iced Coffee. I never have followed the rules! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and have a Fabulous week ahead! 💞🌹
Hiii Gina!! So sorry, going through old videos and seeing comments that I totally missed! So sorry for the delay, but thank you for the lovely comment as always!! xox
Love the heavy weight grey sweater with jeans and those glorious red shoes! Definitely my look....I have a light olive complexion so your colors fit me as well. And I do well with black but I'm tired of it (how long has it been around? 40+ years?). Thanks for the sweater advice.
Hi Jacqueline! Thank you! That's a favourite fall look of mine too :) And I still have a love affair with black but navy has started to steal my heart too! Thank you for watching!
hmm it depends if you're long in the waist ... if so, a narrow belt will look too small ... when in doubt anything around 1.5/2 inches thick is flattering on most:) Hope this helps! xx
Yacht Bebe thank you for the sweet words! It’s a men’s cashmere sweater that is about 4 years old ... tbh I haven’t found anything that wears quite like it but I would def recommend shopping the men’s section if you like the way it hangs:) you can also try Ca Va de Soi - they have some similar men’s inspired styles like this :) hope his helps! thanks so much for watching xx
Can you give tips for men too? My sweatshirts are very, very bigger, bagger and longer and have pocket kangaroo. If I wearing inside my pants make volume and if I wearing outside my pants it look like I'm wearing dress. What can I do? What tips you can give me? Thanks.
Thank you so much for your channel, it's incredibly helpful! I'm pear-shaped with a small waist and very wide hips. I've tried the front, side tuck, and half tuck and I can't seem to make it work. I end up looking much larger than I am because it accentuates the widest part of me. Any advise for us curvy girls?
Hmm it's hard to tell without seeing you ... Have you tried a full tuck with dark high waisted pants? Or you could try a front knot at the waist with high waisted pants/denim? Hope this helps :) really appreciate you watching xx
So glad you found them useful Jody. I have not yet done a video on jeans, but was thinking of doing something similar ... love the suggestion, thank you. The jeans I'm wearing are Levis 721 (high rise skinny) - I'm quite pleased with them. Thank you for watching and have a great week!
Wonderful! That's exactly what I was hoping for with this video ... i find it really makes a difference in seeing our current sweaters differently :) Thank you so much for watching!
Great video! I wear a lot of silky vintage blouses and I like to cuff the sleeves, but the slipperiness of the fabric causes them to uncuff themselves, so I have to continually re-cuff them throughout the day. Any tips on how to make slippery fabrics stay put?
As always you're my styling guru! Thank you so much for this! I always appreciate your detailed instructions. I wonder which of these might work best for a pear shape (like me 😉) who's very small on top? Thanks!
Hi Lisa! You are so sweet, I'm so glad you found it helpful. Great question! I think the full tuck would be great (a good friend of mine has a lovely pear shape and does this often) or the side tuck ... avoid the centre tuck as the loose sides will accentuate difference between top and bottom :) I hope this helps! Thank you for watching and tuck away! xx
@@AlyssaBeltempo ack and I totally forgot to say happy early channel birthday! I'm so I didn't know about the channel from the beginning but so glad I found it! Hooray! 🎉🎉🎉
Glad you liked it Perry! And thank you for the compliment - it is our first and only piece of art so far but very much cherished - a Quebec artist! :) Thank you for watching and have a great week!
I absolutely loved your grey and black sweaters😍😍😍👍👍. You look simply awesome. I have a black one but my husband says that it’s too loose. I feel loose sweaters look good when they are worn well. What would you suggest? It’s as long as the one you wore to show with the belt. Maybe I could style mine like yours. Great video. Btw how do you manage to maintain such a super figure 👍👍👍👍
Hi Indira! Personally I prefer loose sweaters - as you said, if they're worn well and in good shape. Perhaps belting it or even tucking it might do the trick. It really depends on you! I do think it's nice to have at least one tight sweater if you like the look - as this is good for layering. Hopefully this helps? As for my figure, thank you very much for the sweet comment! I think it's mostly genetic tbh, but I run regularly and don't diet ... just try to eat good, un processed food ... i've got a fitness highlights section on Insta since some other lovely viewers were asking too! Hopefully all of this helps and I hope you have a wonderful week!
Never trust your husband for fashion advice unless you know he really has a good fashion eye and he likes approximativ the same kind of stuff you do ... if he does fine ... if not , find either a friend who you really trust to tell you the truth or get with something like chrissie ressel stylesquad on youtube and feedback from there but main thing is do YOU like it really like it and is it in good condition if the answer to both your questions are yes then wear it like you WANT to - its your clothes!
Anna Rehbinder you’re right. I love wearing it coz it looks good on me and it’s a new sweater and esp black which I absolutely love. Thanks for the heads up .
Hello Alyssa :) Would you mind sharing some of your hair care 'secrets' 😅😉😀 It looks amazing 😍 Thank you for the awesome video, loved it! I will be watching your scarves styling video and more probably will be a dedicated subscriber :)
Hi Alyssa, new to your channel and learn do much from you and love it! Can you show what types of clothing will best suit for someone who is heavy in the mid section and have short physique? Would you recommend shape-wear? what you shown is beautiful but with your model like physique, even wearing garbage bag will look stunning- ha! Thanks so much!!!!
Thanks Alyssa Beltempo look forward to your video on what slow fashion is. ;) Are you in Toronto? I have family outside of Pembroke in the Madawaska valley
Kathye thank you so much for the sweet words ... I'm not going to lie, I miss the tiny closet too ... looking forward to coming up with something just as enjoyable and intimate in the new space. Really appreciate you watching and your thoughts!
Hey there! Sorry about that, it's from Nordgreen, a Danish company. I"ve included the link plus discount code in the description :) Thanks for watching! xx
yay! So glad you liked it! That would be amazing ... not sure if i'll make it but love that goal :) Thank you so much for the wonderful support and for watching! Means so much!
.... I suppose I am just too much old school when it comes to certain things ... I don't like this look I don't think it's really attractive, and I didn't really ever understand it LOL. maybe for a change the pace to do this with your shirt or your sweater or something but I just think it looks odd, but again since I'm 65 years young and I'm not a person that goes in for the " trendy thing" ... ( Whether it's clothing / furniture/ etc ) ... which doesn't mean that it's boring you can do fun things with your wardrobe without giving into a lot of trendy stuff that's going to go bye-bye in a while, lol. ... Yes, this photo was only two years old of me I am wearing my leather moto jacket over a sweater and velvet leggings and boots and you can't see the whole ensemble - I mean you can still add a little bit of edge to your outfits... but I just never understood this whole " half tucked in shirt/ sweater thing " just thinks it looks strange. 🙂😬 And I'm not being " negative". I do think your hair is absolutely amazing, and I am interested in watching some of your other videos. 🙂
Interesting perspective! 🙂 I remember thinking a few years ago thay it looked a bit odd or like I could never pull it off, but I've warmed up to the idea and love the look now, especially the full tuck! But I never really saw it as especially trendy, so I love hearing your thoughts!
