Great tutorial! Is it important to make a complete circle around the drum when tuning?

Do all djembe’s take their own amount of rope to be tuned? For say if they were all at the same pitch would they have different amounts of rope used in tuning?

If you can tie a shoe, you can tune a djembe. And if you can’t tune a djembe, welcome to the club.

Hello sir! Someone gave me a djembe and it's been diamond-tied to half of a third row and the extra rope is now kind of short but the head itself is still loose and low, with no slap at all. Is there anything else I can do? How can I retune the djembe , meaning start from the beginning?

How about Kalani, I always see your percussion tutorials, especially those that are djembe, you could do some tutorial on how to tune a djembe with a key, it would be great ..! thank you always..!! by the way I am from Paraguay .. !!

Rasa Raj Greetings! That should be pretty clear how to tune up and down. Just make sure you keep the rim even all the way around and grease the lug nuts if they squeak or are hard to turn.

How can you tell when it needs to be tuned? Also if it's too loose or too tight?

Listen to some professional djembe artists and then check your drum to see how it relates to theirs.

Kalani Music are the number of verticals important when comparing?

Usually, higher-quality drums have more vertical ropes. Comparing what?

I just bought a djembe and it did not come with extra rope could someone tell me what to do ?
@WORLDDRUMCLUB
@WORLDDRUMCLUB 5 лет назад
PP Bastan You can get some similar rope (I think 4mm climbing rope is common) and just stick it in the verticals and go around the drum. Once you flip the first diamond, it will stay in place.

Hey can you suggest a good djembe head ?
@WORLDDRUMCLUB
@WORLDDRUMCLUB 6 лет назад
I prefer thicker heads: either goat or calf skin. If it's humid where you live, go with mule or steer. 1-2 mm.

How do you move up in tying? My djembe's stock tuning completed a full circle around the drum.. not sure how do you move up as the instructions here shows how to continue tying sideways. Hope someone can help.
@WORLDDRUMCLUB

Bon S That’s a common question. The short answer is: Move the rope to the next row and continue. There might be an elegant way to make that transition, but I’ve always just continued on the upper row, using the next two vertical ropes. There will be one spot where the tuning rope will be at an angle, but then you can continue around the drum. Hope this helps. I’ll address this in more detail in a future video.

Hey I broke my djembe head and I took the rope off. I can't figure out how to replace it. Hey suggestions on how to fix it?
@KalaniMusic
@KalaniMusic 6 лет назад
You can try to match the pattern you see on other drums. Just start somewhere on the drum and run your verticals. If I were you, I'd try to find someone who repairs djembes and let them do it.

3:44 :the stick miraculously appears jammed behind the ropes. We then learned that if we can't thread the small rope behind, we just have to thread that way bigger stick behind first. Makes sense? Nope. I am not good at magic. Come one! Show us how you lifted your ropes with a frigging screwdriver to be able to insert that fat stick under there!
