Thank you sooooo much I needed this I recently got a new viola I'm a beginner and there is no teachers in the area so really needed something like this.

All you can do is push in slightly. If you have chalk take the peg out and chalk where it touches the pegbox walls. It sounds as though you might have to take your instrument to your local luthier to have the peg refitted.
You need to tune the A string first (thinnest string on the right as it faces you). Using an electronic tuner really helps. You need the frequency of A to be 440hz. Then tune the next string to the left to D, the one next to that to G and the thickest one on the left to a C. You might need to pop into a music shop or to a luthier if you get stuck. They will give you more advice.
