I've been getting annoyed with my mechanical timers on my Aquarium Lights. I decided to get some Smart Plugs to use with my Google Home Mini and be able to control my lights via my smartphone, without having to pay for the Fancy Fluval Lights.

I have five tanks at home. Started yesterday with 4 plugs. Will be receiving another 8. So useful , opens up a lot of possibilities. Some time i would turn off filters at feedings , and forget to turn back on, only to find cloudy water in am. With this i can set timer to restart. Coordinate co2 with on off times of lite if running different hrs. This going to be sooooo much easier. Thank for the info, great video 👍

It's crazy, I'm about to create a video of using smart plugs to automate your aquarium and vivariums!!! I also used the Meross smart plugs, I've had my aquarium equipment as well as my vivarium equipment(lights, air pumps, water pumps, etc) connected to them and it makes life easier, previously I tried using the digital timers but those were a hassle and expensive sometimes they didn't even work. Love how the Meross app allows you to do schedule, but also control the switches even if your in another state as long as you have connection(wifi or data).

Does anyone know If this app works, turning the aquarium lights on and off maybe every 4 hours is every 7 hours or do you have to set them to turn on and off at a specific time?

3:45 is there any other brand that you can “group” these outlets? I know you can use the app to turn the switches individually, but it will be annoying to tell Alexa four times to turn on all my tanks when I don’t have my phone around.

I believe Alexa you can actually set "Groups" but I'm not sure as I don't use it. You can use "Stringify" to set it up (it's easy) but I only have the 75 gallon I wanted on voice commands so that's all I did.

sayurasem no you don’t have to, it’s so simple a cave man can do it lol. Just set each timer up individually for what you want each tank to be and the app does the rest for you. You don’t have to tell Alexa to do anything. You can set them up in groups if you like so you can have the filters or heaters in one group and when you go to do a WC just tell Alexa to turn off what group and you won’t have to unplug all the heaters during a WC or the wave makers. Very convenient.

Tom Gorski thx, the reason I asked is because sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and watch my tanks while the lights are scheduled to be off. It would be nice just to say “alexa turn on all lights” instead of asking alexa individually lol.

sayurasem that’s fine too. All you do is just put each timer in the group marked “ fish lights “ for example. Then just ask Alexa to turn on the fish lights and they will all go on. Regardless of what the timer is set at. You over ride it. Once you tell them to shut off when you go to bed they all go back on the original time they are set for.

I must be really dumb because I can’t figure out how to set my plug in the app to turn on in the morning and off at night. It keeps saying that I have conflicting schedules.

Agree, love how at night I can just say "Alexa, turn light on" and I'm able to see my fish or my reptiles at night

Yes you can. I have a powerstrip plugged into one of them, and have all of my lights on one timer.

No idea why anyone would have been using the regular timers for the past couple years. 1st thing I did when I saw these timers all over amazon was to grab some. Makes no sense other than cost. And now they are so cheep and simple to set up a schedule. just tell Alexa to tell it what to do if you need to do a WC or something, hands free. So much more convenient.

I still prefer the Digital timer without the WiFi thing just because what if your Home WiFi's shut down and you're not at home?? sorry. I can't trust on this one. The Digital plug works great

I use those mechanical timers, they're definitely not loud, its not that big of a deal to watch the clock and set it at the half hour mark. A few minutes off isnt such a big deal.
