This is after a few years of taking the mixing far too seriously in the early stages. Some prefer to mix everything as they go but I have found that it kills the creative energy for me! I try to match sounds well so that I don't need huge amounts of EQ and Compression right away. There are no rights and wrongs when making music.
You're so right! I recently discovered that you should choose samples and sounds before mixing so they fit perfectly or you think they sound good together and it makes sense.
Hi, I'm trying to learn how to make beats. To be specific I wanna learn how to make good, ear pleasing pop beats that I can sing to, and make songs to. Could you recommend any like loop, sample, or sound packs I should buy, or will the programme its self be enough, and I just need to learn how to arrange, and edit the sounds already on the programme?
BRO NO JOKE I was working on a song, i made the lyrics but had no idea how to start and create the song. I tried a few things but all failed, then i took a brake and opened my YT and my man Michael saves my day!!! Thankss broo
@@inthemix yeah these videos are amazing, I recently (less than a month ago) picked up fl studio to have a hobby and get something to do and your channel really helps me understand things better. Your videos are very professional whilst still being entertaining, keep it up! :)
Honestly, the way you do your videos and explain everything to the viewers is just on such a professional level! Very very good and it makes it way more interesting and more enjoyable to follow - keep up 👌🏽
I've been watching Michael since when he was using his bedroom and this is the first time I'm dropping a comment although i like his videos before they start playing. Just want to let you know that you inspire me so much man. The amount of music knowledge and inspiration i get from your channel is overwhelming; I literally got goosebumps watching this. Thanks a lot man, only few can do what you do. Now I'm totally convinced I want to study Music even after my B.Sc in Geography. If i get half as good as you I'm Good. I really appreciate.
Just to add to it, a bridge can also be between the final chorus and outro chorus to "Bridge" the two together and can really be any length. Usually in a bridge I like to change the atmosphere, add plenty reverb and maybe vocode the vocals or add vocal chants. Just something to make it more epic when that final chorus hits in :)
Many thanks for your videos! It’s been multiple times when I tried to get into music production and FL Studio. After finding your channel, I’m finally moving somewhere. Your tutorials have a perfect mix of a bit of music theory, tips on using the software and explanation of the general workflow. As a complete beginner, your videos are one of the few I can follow and get results for myself after each one.
The best advice I took from this set of tutorials that I recently also picked up on on my own while I was trying to recreate some of my favorite electronic tracks - I got so stuck on trying to match the key and the notes getting the articulation right I didn't bother to much with trying to get the same "sound" out of each instrument. I started messing with the stereo width, velocity & panning as well as matching sure my timestamps were in cue with the DSP round trip from my sound card. I finally feel like I have a hold on the DAW i've been messing with for the past 10 years lol. I appreciate you putting all of this together in a short informative to the point series brother, take care.
Can't believe that this content is free. As someone who has been playing jazz and funk sax for 30 years but is just taking his first steps in music production, your videos are absolutely priceless. Best content for music production on RU-vid by a country mile.
Hi Michael!! I am Soham Sinha from India, I am 15 years old age boy.... I watched your beginners tutorial and started making some drum beats and after 2 months I watched your first tutorial to make loop to a song And you don't believe but now I made songs like a pro. I had started learning and making music from March 2019 and today in July I can be called as a real music producer. That's the another thing that I am learning but you have done a magic on me. So many other music producer want to collab with me and recorder labeller want me to take their record label.. Thank you very much..❤️
You have no idea how grateful I am for you and how honored I am to come across your channel. Thank you so much!!! You are a true work of art and thank you so much for dropping such wonderful knowledge on myself and everyone else :)!!!
Even as somebody who has been using FL casually since 2010-2011 (I started with a pirated copy of FL 7 when I was 15), I still picked up a few things in this 3 part series to help my workflow become a bit more efficient. From the most basic beginners to the trained professionals, and even the intermediates in-between; It's crazy how you can speak to all of them in the same video and have something for EVERYONE to learn. I just appreciate your channel so much. I say this in like, every video- but thank you so much for the time you take to make these.
Thank you so much. This way, track creation is progression of upgrades of composition, sound design and arrangement. And only when you have in mind the sound design/arrangement conventions of chosen style.
1-Explanation was so good 2-The idea was so clear 3-Easy to understand AND IT ACTUALLY WORKED FOR ME !!!! I am extremely happy and thankful to you Michael
Thanks for making these videos Michael! Priceless guidance for those who are stuck. Btw, your tracks are peaceful to listen to, no unusual commercial loudness that I'm not a very big fan of. Kudos!
my favourite producer bro you've helped me alot your videos helped me put food on the table for my family thank you bro keep up the good work #Team_InTheMix
"Play along on an instrument", I don't have a MIDI keyboard and I don't play instruments, but I always find myself jamming out on my actual computer keyboard when I'm messing with a synth in FL Studio. I'm still struggling to break out of the loop hell, but I think this step of physically playing something is very important. Even if you hit the wrong notes (and you absolutely will if you're stuck using a computer keyboard), you can nail down the exact rhythm and beat you're trying to translate into MIDI. And, as you demonstrated, sometimes it can help you come up with new ideas on the spot. For example, some synths can be frequency modulated just by sustaining one note and playing others on top of it. This is behavior you would discover very quickly by experimenting with something physical, whereas it would most likely be discovered by pure accident if you were just stuck using the Piano Roll. It's also far easier to try those ideas when it's as simple as just pressing keys in a certain order than trying to fumble around in the Piano Roll. Some of the most interesting stuff I've come up with has been from just randomly tapping keys until I get it into a specific rhythm. I should probably record them as patterns so I can fix them up properly and actually use them.
Also i agree bigtime on not letting the mix etc get in the way of creativity! It always does and there goes the song; really loved your advice on just creating and mix as you go or later.☝️🤗🙏🎸
Amazing tutorial! I’m gonna consider following these steps. I tend to get stuck in the 8 bar loop and even importing a song to use it as a structure guide doesn’t work for me (because I still “hear” the original, unless I decide to empty the blocks, but still...). I have watched the three video’s you made about the topic. One little request: I would like to see a kind of “second part” of this video, showing how to make the outro, put some lyric rhythm or melody in the same song and make it more personal. Thank you!
I'm still new to using any kind of DAW but I've been dreaming of writing my own music and this is just so inspirational and informative. I really do appreciate the content you create because it helps me realize that giving up won't do anything for me. This is what I want to strive for. Thank you!!
I wrote mainly instrumental stuff so this workflow really helps. I'm not a great pianist but you are right in the sense that adding some realism always improves songs. And Flex is such an amazing tool.
OMG! this such a cool/Relaxing song. so AWESOME! the song really suits you because you're so relaxed i love it! You're the #1 producer on youtube, you really are
I've watched probably every video you've ever added to this channel, and in every single one I've learnt something, or had something I already knew given more depth. One thing I've never found out is how you manage to get your hair so friggin awesome. You don't have to do a vid just on that but i would watch it, and probably give it a like. Also the first chord in this video immediately made me think Pyramid Song by Radiohead.
I don't know if you remember me, but I have to say that after six months - when I purchased FL Studio 20 - I had absolutely no idea how to arrange anything on FL studio! Now, after seeing this, my mind exploded ! 😂 Thank you so much for putting this video! I learned many, many things in less than twenty minutes! You are an inspiration.
This is the best channel for learning anything about music production, Thank you for not dragging anything out and at the same time teaching us all we need to know. i appreciate you alot for that, since my brain usually just loses attention with anything but for some reason i have a sense of concentration that i do not want to let go while watching your videos, it has given me a routine to go about in FL Studio and i actually enjoyed watching the video aswell. Thank You.
This is very helpful not just because of your songwriting advice, but because you give a ton of useful workflow tips for FL that a lot of EDM type videos seem to omit.
Omgosh!! This has been one of the most helpful (if not THEE MOST helpful) strongwriting tutorials for FL20 I have come across!!! A resounding THANK YOU for your utmost help! Always a fan :)
Just came here to say congrats on your 2 mi achievement. And to tell you I'm in a road trip through Scotland and am in Inverness right now, just arrived. My wife and I love your city. Really inspiring place for musicians and all artists. Cheers.
Don't know much about creating music, but your videos are good! Was a bit critical when from other videos you were working very systematic, whereas I was like "hey! Music is a feeling right? Not just some algebra". But here you explain well that you should be free and creative in a kind of "relaxed" systematic way. I like it! Thanks!
I wish this channel existed when I first started learning FL Studio. The content is so well done and intructive. Thanks for the great videos! Looking forward to your post-patreaon activities.
Another fire video. Well done. I will use that buffer you showed in a different as my "loop" since I tend to play stuff in FL before hitting record and start there. Keep em coming Michael!!!
I love this video, it was great! As a composer and songwriter myself, I always love to watch these kinds of videos, as it really showcases how the two forms of expression are pretty much the same. Music production isn't much different from writing even something like a fairly simple string arrangement for a song.
I've been watching your tutorials for a few months now and am a subscriber to your channel. I have to say; over and above all of your other talented videos, this one helped me a massive amount! I was definitely in the "loop rut" and you've given me a simple workflow method that I will use going forward. You explain things in easy to understand chunks and your professionalism shines through. Big Up Ya-Self! From East Sussex England.
thank you for legitimately being helpful. it may not mean a whole lot from one person but this channel has helped my production more than almost any other i've come across.
these 3 videos are so really helpful. i had these struggles when i started playing the piano like a year ago. later i had these struggles on guitar and after that on fl studio when i was just making random beats too. thank you so much :)
Your channel has been a life saver for me😮 is like you always have the answers to all problems in production🤯, you definitely made my production better🌞. Thanks a million times man👍 😊😊😊
Can you make a video about how to choose the right samples that work well together? And also from where to get the best royalty free one shots (both free and paid for)? ☺️☺️
Usually what I do is, first I hit the like button and then i watch the video. I always believe that there will be something interesting to learn from your videos. Lots of love from India. I know my English is bad but m trying to say something from my heart that I really like your videos. Thank you.
Thank you so much! I appreciate your videos because it gives me more confidence in music producing, I wish I had you as an music instructor when I was in college. Your tutorials are super helpful and easy to follow.
Well done. Yes, sometimes we get lost in loops and never break out of the box but it doesn't take much. I totally agree on PLAYING the instrument instead of painting notes, even for drums sometimes. All the perks of technology & DAWs often make us stray from spontaneous composition, variety and fun ;)
@@inthemix Thanks! I speak from experience (good & bad, even berfore DAW existed). Another cool 'trick' is to play along the loop/pattern in more takes, capturing whatever idea flows in that moment. Then you can simply mix & match, comp away the best parts of your takes or re-record if you like. Have a great evening!
I like your way of explaining things even if my music theory is bad right now i feel like i understand most of the parts well however saved for future, continue with your great work man you're good. Thank you.
Hey, thnks for helping me alot sir. Everytime I'm stuck I see your tutorial and they help me alot. You just boost my confidence to next level. I have watched maximum all of your tutorial. They had helped me alot. I still lack on mixing mastering cause i don't have proper headphones to do that. I started the channel last week and hope so u would like my music. Love from India
Thanks dude! I'm transitioning from another DAW because I feel like I'm limited in what I do! You encourage me to get FL Studio! To be honest, it feels like I'm starting music production all over again.
Being a very beginner, trying to experiment with every possible way to understand the possibilities. Here is what I do, probably: 1. Write a lyrics 2. Create the melody (Phrase by phrase) recording in the Piano-roll (Exactly the way i hear in my mind). The main purpose of creating melody is to create the chords that accurately match the (Keys) notes and harmony of the song in the most emotional way. 3. Create chords 4. Add compositions 5. Mixing
These videos are genuinely massively helpful, really didnt think about the instruments actually matching the tone, (in heindsight i should have realised why my piano and sawtooth buzzy bass werent really meshing) Keep up the awesome work mate ! ☮
