2023 Update: I see this continues to be a helpful video…if you have specific questions about tutoring or how I run my tutoring business or how I use zoom for online tutoring contact me to set up a paid 1/2 hr. coaching session with me through my website at www.mariosmathtutoring.com
@Mario...do you advertise other than on your channel? I tutor mostly in person but having this set up would surely improve my zoom meetings. Thank you.
Hi, I use my iPad and teach on zoom .I share my screen and use one note for explaining the concepts and open up free websites like corbett maths to get worksheet and use my i pen to write on it. This save me from having 3 different equipment' for teaching maths. My issue is how to focus on different students online and give them different worksheets according to their ability? How to monitor their work?
Any suggestions for when you don’t have the students textbook with you? i was thinking to have them send me pictures of the textbook prior to the session and printing them out so I can have a copy as well but I’m open to better ideas!
Thanks. Your video is very helpful, teaching the tools I need. Excellent! Questions: 1. Does your writing tablet come with software that allows recording the lesson? 2. How does my laptop know which device, writing tablet or camera to choose to show up on student's screen? Thank you.
Willa, I use Zoom...so you can select the camera, device etc. as far as the tablet you choose it comes with free drivers you can download but the one I use works with every program I have used thus far. I’ve got links in the description for the products I use and recommend.
@@MariosMathTutoring Thank you very much. Does the tablet driver allow recording of your lesson when need to? Each time you switch between tablet and document camera, you need to make the selection? Thank you.
Hi, thank you for sharing your video. It is helpful! I have a question...How do your students book classes with you? I want to run my own independent online teaching and have no idea how the students book with me? Is it through Google calendar? (I have never used this calendar). Any advice please. Thank you
Can you please tell me is it possible to write on the textbook image as you have written, it seems to me the your document cam app or software, has option to annotate on the screen on the text book pages. If I buy a cheap cam which you have mentioned OKIOLABS OKIOCAM S USB 2-in-1 Webcam and Document Camera, would I be able to write on the on screen document image? This cheap cam shows writing up side down then you have to rotate the image, So a pupil could view it normally. Any other option of doc visualiser with the on screen writing feature with graphic tablet????
Mary, wow I’ve never heard that before. What software are you using the tablet with? Zoom? Or something else? Did you install the Wacom drivers? You should be able to go to the Wacom website and download the drivers that work with your tablet. Try that and if that doesn’t work I’d see about calling wacom’s customer service. Oh and make sure your tablet is not facing 180 degrees opposite what it should be...meaning the top is oriented the correct way...
Can the writing tablet and camera be used with, say, google meet or do I need a different software? Also do I need a document camera to use a whiteboard? Thanks. Leeka
Leeka to use the whiteboard with zoom all you need is a writing tablet. I have not used google meet. The document camera allows for a top down view of say a book, worksheet, or even you writing or demonstrating something. Hope that helps.
Hello !!! I have seen your video before, needed to ask you. Can I substitute the document camera to a HD webcam will it work the same to show the textbooks. ? Thanks for your time.
Paula, generally the webcam is used for you the teacher/tutor to be seen on the video and the document camera is an above facing down camera to show a textbook, etc. they do have usb document cameras that are on a flexible arm that can be moved any direction so you could use it for multiple purposes. Hope that helps.
Thanks... sir I am also a Mathematics Educator especially for higher class students...but don't know how to get students who want to learn online...I hope you will give some positive tips... thanks
I would like to set up a consistent with to teach my students online. I know that I can share my screen with students but I have a student who wants to show me his screen he's learning Photoshop can he share his scream with me as well on Zoom?
@@MariosMathTutoring thank you so much for your response! I have another question, I just helped someone who was trying to get blemishes off of someone's face with the spot healing tool and every time he painted using spot healing brush black strands...paint were coming out of it. No matter what foreground background was set as ... and if it was on content-aware or the texture,it didn't matter black. I noticed that there was something wrong with the layers are you familiar with any of this?
Paula, if you are just starting out I would try to use whatever you have at the moment....no need to buy a lot of expensive equipment at the start...you can always upgrade over time. I have a 15 inch MacBook Pro but I used an old 13 inch MacBook for a lot of years until it got to be 10 years old and then upgraded...So I hope that helps somewhat...
Nice lesson man. Zoom was a life changing experience for me. My buddy started a meeting about every weekend with his around the country friends where he's been to. Every weekend was such an awesome time, we'd all talk for a couple hours and so happy got to meet many good people all thanks to zoom and my buddy
Brilliant video! Loved how you ran through the different tools when using Zoom. And you addressed the possibility of a student not having a writing tablet, something I was wondering myself.
If you would like to discuss how I work with students online, run through a practice session together over Zoom to get some experience...and discuss online tutoring in general contact me to set up a paid coaching session over Zoom with me here: www.mariosmathtutoring.com/schedule-a-session.html
my biggest question is.....let's say i've been doing online tutoring for about a year. what kind of tax forms would i submit before april 15? 1099s? not w2 because those forms are for salaried jobs, not freelancing... i just want 2 get started right.
@@visionaerie I'm not a cpa, i just do my own taxes on turbotax. but you would end up claiming both your income and deductions on a Schedule C with your personal taxes. look into what a Schedule C is. that should clear some things up for you.
Glad you liked the video Anthony! Some viewers are purchasing this budget document camera...looks like it got good reviews: amzn.to/3ctiZNv (this is an affiliate link which means I receive a small commission for the sale but it’s at no additional cost to you). As far as using grids and Desmos.... I’m not familiar with a good program to utilize both of those. Maybe another viewer/commenter will have some ideas for you.
Hi there! When you are writing with the Writing Tablet, is there any way to see where the "pen tip" is hovering over before committing to write the "digital inkstrokes"? It appears to run smoothly in the video, but I'm just curious as to how the setup and the experience feels like in real life.
Awesome video ,and interesting tools! I have been using a drawing tablet for years and always found XP-Pen Star G640 to be excellent. This particular size works for me - I can hand write on Zoom white board software for example - and the pen is comfortable to use.
If you are just working 1 to 1 the free version is all you need. If you are working with 2 or more students at the same time that is a group meeting and if you want to meet for longer than 40 minutes without the meeting ending you will want the paid version.
Great video! Thank you. Were you using the writing tablet when you were doing the math problem, or just your mouse pad? How do you connect up the Wacom tablet to Zoom?
How do i use google drawing with zoom? last time i tried it, tho i was looking at the drawing page and had done the share screen thing, my student ctill couldnt see the drawing page
Ok, so would I be able to use a GoPro hero 7 as a live-streaming webcam during a Zoom meeting? I know you recommended your document camera but I don’t have the option of buying that now.
Brianna, not sure I know that one. Here is a video where I discuss how to factor all types: Factoring - How to Factor Different Types ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kAHRBxLhkW8.html
MR. Mario I bought an HP touchscreen laptop at target, going to buy document camera how do I know if is adaptable to my Laptop.?? Thanks again, you're so nice to reply back to me. Appreciate you.
Paula just make sure it has a standard USB input. If not you may have to get an adaptor...that is what I had to do....it’s not a big deal they sell them at Best Buy and other stores or online.
I do not like using the annotating tool (writing tool) in Zoom because it is sloppy to handle with your mouse and choppy looking. I'm assuming to make it smoother, like Khan Academy's presentations, that you would use the Wacom writing tablet, right? If so, how? What software? Wish you showed us how you incorporated the writing tablet. I want to improve on Zoom in Math and other subjects I teach in GED. Thanks!
Dawn, sorry to hear you personally found the writing in Zoom choppy. I haven’t found that to be the case personally. I don’t know if what you are experiencing is internet lag, a sub par tablet, a computer issue, or an issue with Zoom. What I demonstrate in the video is using an older Wacom tablet...my handwriting may not be the best quality because I tend to rush and have never had the best handwriting. The link I put in the description is to the newer Wacom tablet which I use now (because I dropped and broke the pen on the old tablet) and I personally have been happy with it. Let me know if you have any other questions and I’ll do my best to answer. Glad to hear you are helping student with Math!
@@MariosMathTutoring Ooooh, you are using your Wacom and stylus with Zoom. I'm using my mouse in zoom, so that's why it's not smooth. Thank you for your reply.
Good question Gary...I had an old Wacom tablet that I dropped and broke the pen but it still worked....but thought I’d get a new one and use the old one as a backup. I have a link for the new one I use now in the description of the video. It’s been reliable for me.
Sherica, I do before unless it is someone I’ve known for a long while…Hope that helps! Check out my how to start a tutoring business video course for sale for more helpful advice.
@@MariosMathTutoring thank you so much. It’s no coincidence that the first video I come across from you is right up my ally. I will check out your other videos.
Frank good question...I have a fairly new MacBook Pro...in order to make it thin they have omitted a number of ‘slots’ for plugging in accessories. So I had a to get an adapter that plugs into the side of the computer that allows for additional usb plugins. Yes it all works easily and seamlessly with Zoom.
Maya, can you tell me more about what you are wanting to do? I’m not sure I understand...do you mean how am I using the tablet to write on the online whiteboard or annotate something on the screen? I’ve got links to all the tools I’m using and recommending in the description.
@@MariosMathTutoring yes hi. Thanks for getting back to me. I see that some teachers when they share the whiteboard in zoom apart from using the draw/type features they use a pen to manually write with their handwriting like you did. Does this need a tablet to be connected like you said to be able to use the whiteboard?
Frank I’m just using my headphones from an old iPhone but you could certainly get a low cost USB Microphone something like this one here: amzn.to/2yr2JNL (This is an affiliate link as I’m an amazon affiliate but it is at no additional cost to you) this is the one I’m considering getting.
Frank this is not the exact tablet I use because it is pretty old and they don’t make this exact one anymore but this one here is pretty close: Writing Tablet amzn.to/2JnCRET
