I watched your video multiple times as to never used an roto rooter type snake before and did not want to pay local rotor company $375 again as I did 3 years ago, They always tell me I have to replace my sewer mainline and they would do it for $5000. I rented a 100 foot auger from Lowe's for $61 and followed your lead,, what a savings! even if I have to rent a roto auger yearly , so what,, I am more than ok with that , thankyou for keeping it simple and easy to understand

They always pitch that same thing to me, $5000, and even$10,000 with the idea that I could have roots and require my entire front yard to be dug up, and that's why I'm here as well. Thanks for that. Usually, I just hand snake it, and no prob.

I suspect they would want at least $10k now from you. Stuff is a lot cheaper in my area and even they want at least $7k to repair the trouble area and $10k to replace the whole line. And all I have are a few fine roots sneaking in at the end of the line where it connects to the city. I suspect I can get many more years out of it. I plan to just buy one of these. You can get one that does fine roots for like $700. That will pay for itself in just a few years. I would just pay the $10k but I suspect the roots would just come back in a few years anyway. They always seem to find a way in.

I do things a little differently, so here goes. When I introduce the snake in the pipe I also allow a trickle of water down the sink. What this does it is way for me to witness that the pipe is getting cleaned and whether it is.flowing properly. I can also adjust the flow rate to allow me to judge my progress. This is my process and nobody else’s. I also run the water as I am retrieving the cable for two reasons to clear the pipe of any crap in the pipe and to clean the cable.. It takes a little longer but I don’t have to clean the machine

Does anyone know.....Could i use this machine for my "Clean Out" in my back of the house? its full and leaking into my yard. I got rid of the build up (💩), but, if i put the cap back on my tubs & toilets fill with stinky sewer water again so i'm sure there's still a clog somewhere. Since my husband passed I've been learning, and also teaching my daughter how to be self-sufficient; so i really appreciate any advice you have. Thank you so much for this great video ☺

I rented this from Home Depot yesterday to unclog my sewer line. As I was reeling it back in once I was done I noticed that the last 15 feet or so wouldn’t reel back in. The cable would just spin but not reel into the drum. I put it in forward and the cable would feed out for a couple of feet but then just spin. I tried to reel it back in and those same couple of feet reel in but then again the cable just spins and doesn’t reel in back to the drum. Any idea how to fix that?

Recently, I got three estimates from plumbers and this is what they told me. 1. "Root killer will damage your sewer pipe with its chemicals." 2. "Metal auger will damage your pipes. (So you should only use jetter.)" 3. "Even if you cut the tree, the roots will keep growing for years." I figured they were telling me these things so they can charge me $6000-7000 to install a new pipe. Anyone has any opinion on this?

The only clean out I have is in main line. I have floor drains in basement and one outside. I wondered if the floor drains could be in a separate “storm” line running to the sewer or somewhere else or if it’s connecting to the main line. Also had trouble getting the snake to enter through the floor drain in slab. P trap or hard 90? Suggestions?
@kD_5555_
@kD_5555_ Год назад
If your home is older, you may be on a combined system. Where your storm ties into your sanitary. If it's a newer home, you most likely have a sump pump. If your home is older,at that floor drain. That is most likely where your storm is tieing into your main

@@kD_5555_ Mine is just 1 pipe outside next to our ditch. Every time it rains a little hard, the manhole has water going into the road, and our pipe outside starts overflowing with water and toilet paper into the yard/ditch. Toilets also don't flush. Our toilets wouldn't flush for the past week so I rented this, but it's half as fast as his and isn't seeming to do anything. I also don't see any water in the drain pipe outside whenever I flushed both toilets 7 times combined. Didn't even notice a change in waterflow inside the pipe. idk if that's normal but my mom used a pressurewasher hose yesterday, and felt obstruction after around 10 feet, but the auger went in full speed for 5 minutes and still nothing. I did notice it would (idk how to say this) it would spin normally then at a certain point the guide starts flailing around like a ceiling fan as it's going through. If I reversed, it just went back to normal, then forward again and after a few secs it did it. What should I do here?
@RandomPerson-bd2hv
@RandomPerson-bd2hv 8 месяцев назад
I have same configuration. My plumber showed me how to snake from my basement drain - it's tricky but also with patience (lots of patience) it's the easiest way to do it. Typically in the older homes if you take your hand and feel down 4-8" you'll feel the outflow drain - learn where this is. Then aim the tip of auger there and guide the auger while it is slowly spinning. Once it goes in, push and get some line down the pipe and away you go.

@@hexiseThanks, I will also check Lowe's. I was unaware Lowe's rented equipment. I was able to watch this video again, thankfully. I also hired a company that did a clean-out a couple of years ago for $139. That same service this week cost me $375, same company. They removed the blockage, but did not cut or remove the roots, stating my 3 inch clean-out opening was too small. I am awaiting an estimate for them to install a clean-out in my front lawn. They will have to go down 9 feet. I believe I can handle 70 pounds (I've lifted 65 pounds bails of hay). I am also entertaining the idea of using a company that is advertising $100 for a clean-out, if they say they will remove the roots. I refuse to pay thousands of dollars to have my lawn torn up for such a minor issue. My pipes are "clean" according to the plumbers that cleared the blockage. I could see the pipe was clean and I saw the roots in the video, that's how I knew no effort was made to remove the roots. Even if they installed a clean-out out front, the drain pipe will be the same diameter, right? I feel they are trying to exploit me. It seems a once honest company has gone rogue. Shame!

If you have respiratory concerns, I would be very concerned about breathing in any sort of mold or bacteria from the sewage. At that age you shouldn't have to do it yourself. That's a tough situation, best of luck.

I called the sewer company. We have several of them. We use the same one each time they’ve been really wonderful. They snake it clear out to the road and clean up and it’s 115 bucks. And they guarantee against roots for six months! I live in Michigan. Also, they have like a power flush that they can put down your drain to flush out so you’re washed tub your sink whatever. That’s a plus! 👍

Unless you'd like to rent a drain camera from Home Depot, the only way to know is to send water through there and see if it backs up. It's just cheaper to do that, but if you'd like to know what the condition of the pipe is then rent the camera and happy looking.
