Almost 8 years after you made this video, you are still helping people. Following your instructions, I was able to unclog my bathroom sink myself, without having to call a plumber I couldn't really afford to do this simple task. Very helpful and easy to follow instructions. Hope you are doing well in 2021--thanks for sharing this video.
GUYS, I have tried everything to unclog my basement bathroom sink. I tried even the white vinegar and soda, which seemed to open it up just a little bit. My problem was past the P-trap, after the vent pipe. Snakes wouldn't fix the problem (snake would stop). Well, I found holes in the vent pipe (metal) and replaced 6 feet total of the vent and drain piping. When I looked inside the piece of the removed drain pipe, I realized no wonder nothing I tried worked. The stuff that was in there felt more like a RUST TO METAL BOND kind of a deal. That's decades of shaving cream, soap, saliva, and toothpaste accumulation, I think! Certainly not the type of clog I expected. I expected soapy hair and toothpaste all dried up.. you know... That stuff was even difficult to remove with a hammer, but not impossible. Now if you ask me how I could have easily solved this problem, I'd bet all I own, that pouring/spraying WD40 down the drain would have done it.. Not recommending you to do this, but I can almost guarantee that WD40 will solve similar clogging problems and, in MY OPINION, using just a lil bit is harmless, but you should always do some research on this before doing anything. In my case, this issue was a blessing in disguise. I replaced a damaged vent pipe. It had so many holes in it looked like it had been used for target practice! Replaced it with a PVC one. I live in a basement. I might post a vid later...
This video is still helping people. I just unclogged my bathroom sink with this video. I'm pretty sure the Upside Down is inside my bathroom wall. I pulled so many slimy green tentacles out of the pipe leading into the wall that it kind of freaked me out. Gross things aside, my sink drains perfectly now.
With the corona outbreak, I knew I couldn't take the risk to get someone to unclog my kitchen sink so I did it my self thanks to your vedio. Love all the way from England 😁🤗. Stay safe..
I can’t thank you enough. A cap/crown fell or rather flew off a back molar while I was using a water pic and it went down the drain. I had the idea of removing the p-trap but was turning the wrong direction, with the channel locks even. I could see exactly which way to turn on your video and I have the cap now. Thank you a zillion zillion times. You saved me a ton of money. (73 yrs old, no dental insurance and sons living in different states)
Thank you soooo much I got sick of waiting for my husband to fix the sink and you helped me your freaking awesome I fixed the sink all by my self thank you thank you thank you
I am a 74-year old woman who lives alone and I've learned to do many things around the house from RU-vid. Your video helped me to unclog my bathroom sink and save $500 for a plumber to just walk through the front door. Thank you!
Omg THANK YOU! My husband thinks I’m a heroine!! We both had clogged drains for almost six months. This was incredibly helpful. I was so scared. But you guided me thru every step.
broke college student and had been dealing with a shitty drains for x months and got sick of it, tried out what you said in the vid and it works like a charm. thanks a bunch :)
I’m visiting my sister who struggles with depression and her sink had been badly clogged for months. This is the first sink I’ve unclogged and it was horrible but she’s gonna be so happy when she gets home and sees her bathroom. With a functional sink I can finally clean lol :D
HRT- Again THANK YOU so much for this video. I can’t tell you how helpful it was. FYI: once I took the stopped out of the drain, I realized that I didn’t that I didn’t have the “zip-it” tool. So I found a long, wooden dowel. And I wadded up a few paper towels and pushed it down the drain. It worked! I did that over and over (about four times). And the drain is now so clean. Thank you again. PS I’ve subscribed!!
Thank you so much for this video, I was so nervous about touching the plumbing under my sink for fear of breaking it, but the idea of what a pain in the neck having to try and get my landlord in to fix it outweighed my fear. After weeks of having a stinky, slow draining sink, thanks to you and your video I was able to pull out what I thought was kayako from the grudge-it was actually a 14 inch long hair clog from the wall pipe. 🤢 But the sink is fixed and I feel more capable of taking care of my home. Thank you so much!!!!
Thank you, very helpful instructions!! I was able to fix my upstairs bathroom sink. It wasn't draining and another line flows into it (maybe ac?) so it would have overflowed if I hadn't unclogged it. You're my hero!!
Thank you so much, I honestly was not sure how the drain plug worked and was so worried about trying to mess with parts of the sink I didn't understand, in case I couldn't put it back together or something. Finally thanks to you, I was able to clear a clog we've had in our sink for months that we just couldn't afford to have anyone come fix.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Your knowledge and the perfect way you walked thru each step saved me so much money because I fixed my sink myself and did not have to call a plumber. You are a wonderful human!
Helpful video!! A daughter of a carpenter should know better 🤣, but I was able to unclogged my sink following your instructions! Thank you, feeling accomplished this morning 💪🏻
thank you for uploading this video, i didn't have anybody teaching me how this works and i have a hard time understanding, you explained it perfectly and i hope you have a good day
Awesome guide! This gave me the confidence to do some plumbing of my own. As a hairy guy, I run into sink clogs A LOT. Cleaning the sink is an essential task for me lol.
@Muslim - One who submits to God that depends. Are you more concerned about the smell? Or about the germs and your immune system? Some of us are more concerned about the smell. 😁 I haven't heard of anyone dying from cleaning out their pipes.
Thanks for the video, my fiancé and I followed all steps. Our sink drains like normal now. So my fiancé knows how to do a lot of stuff but your video gave us both the confidence that we knew we were doing it correctly!
omg thank you soooo much! my landlord didn’t want to come check my sink cause of the virus and i came across your video it was clogged sooo bad it’s was disgusting but i cleaned everything out 😭 thank you!
Thank you so much Jeff! My bathroom sink is in the basement so a little different p-trap setup but your video was a GREAT help! I didn't need an auger or zip drain thingy, just a paper towel and an old knitting needle 😉 Won't be needing Drain-o anymore! Thankyou!!!
By mistake I did drop my gold charm(small). When I was searching how to open sink drain pipe I have seen your video I followed the method u shared. I got my charm back😊. Thanks bro
If your sink is clogged, do yourself a favor and skip to the most replayed section where it shows how to remove the sink stopper. I would start there as this is most likely what is clogging your sink. These fill up with gunk and hair. I just unclogged my whole house using this step alone. Great video, thanks for putting it out there.
Good video. I would wear latex or nitrile gloves. Also, at end, when I flush the lines with clear hot water, I fill sink basin with as much hot water as it holds, and release the drain. This flushing washes the entire plumbing lines, that you just took apart.
Thanks for that. The video gave me ideas on how to take the easy way out. I just worked a large zip tie through the drain opening with the water lightly running and this seemed clear up drain enough for it to empty faster. Then I ran the water more heavily to thoroughly flush away any gunk that I had loosened. If I do this on a monthly basis I am hoping that I can avoid having to deal with all the "muck and Guck". Thanks again.
Thank you, I was on the verge of calling maintenance but I found this video and figured it was easy enough for me to look at first. Took me only a few minutes and I actually found an old metal bracelet along with some hair and gunk that had rusted tangled around the very bottom of the stopper, because of this the actual p trap was relatively clean and free of debris (also probably because I ran drano through it a cpl months back for the same issue). Now the sink drains as it should, before I had to be mindful of how I wash my hands or clean the sink because before long the sink would be filled up and it'd leave rings and trails of soap and dirt.
Thanks for this super helpful video. Call me naive or chicken, but I was reluctant to take the drain pipes apart underneath the bathroom sink. We had a huge clog. I tried everything first: white vine and baking soda, Drano, plunging, drain sticks, and a pipe snake. It went from a slow drain to completely clogged. This video showed me how easy it was to disassemble everything and clear and clean it. Was it gross? Yes. Was it smelly and messy? Yes. Did it work? Yes. Thanks!
Thank you so much I live in a student housing asked them call maintenance fix it apparently said they did but nothing so I didn’t it myself step by step while watching your video!
Thank you for the easy tutorial. I would do this myself, but my landlord said don't touch it. He'll do it soon. It's ok, I have 2 other bathroom sinks I could use.
I unclogged my sink by watching this video! Helped so much . I didn’t need no man’s help .. well the video I did need a man to help but I did I the work myself lol
The only difference now is the modern drain stops don't need channel locks, new ones are snap-in and pinch to remove. I wear disposable "surgical" gloves whenever plumbing, you don't want the muck in your drain on your bare hands as you'll be touching the popup rod, any tools, flashlight etc and I recommend a towel-sized rag for under the water-catching container (buckets dont fit well, use a flat Dollar Store tupperware container, only about 12 ounces comes out when you remove the p-trap). Thanks much, great vid
Hi. Great video. Got a question, though. The bottom end of the drain stopper, which is made of white plastic, has a small "jog" in it, so there are two possible orientations for it when the horizontal rod gets reinserted. Should the bottom end of the drain stopper be situated so it's closer to the wall or farther away from it? Or does it matter? Thanks!
Just discovered a product called "Thrift", after 2 recent plugged drains that I could not repair with my snake (plugs were inside wall someshere) had to call a plumber thru home warranty and they used their power snake to clear 20-ish feet past the p-trap. BUT, after watchin vids on this new to me "Thrift" product I'm buyin it to do some preventative plumbing clearing and keeping some on hand to clear future issues.
