Another big thank you for the video!! I used to be able to take off from my back yard, did a firmware update and you guessed it, I now live in a blue zone. How annoying!?!?! Going to try the self-unlock tonight (weather permitting).

I ENJOYED YOUR EXPLAINING THE FENCING PROGRAM. I LIVE IN A HEAVY NO FLY AREA. PRIVATE AIRPORT AND MILITARY BASE. MY AREA IS BLUE AND RED NEXT TO ME. I WAS APPROVED BUT ONLY CERTAIN TIMES, FLIGHT LIMIT. MY BACK YARD IS A PILOT TEST BELOW THE RADAR FLY AREA ONLY. THEY WANTED THE TIME TO DO THIS EACH TIME I TEST. I HAVE BOTH FLY APPS SHOWS THE CONDITIONS. I DON'T MINE GOING 50 MILES TO SAFE FLY AREAS.

That's why you don't use Glonass use the Russian system of god now you might say why I use the Russian GPS because their system is more accurate and the reason why when they launched a missiles that's what they that's what they going to be using ironically but that's what they've been using because their system is going to hit dead on baby

Hi there! Great video thanks! I wanna fly in a "blue" zone. Because of a beautiful scenery. In that case I have to register my drone. The one thing I wonder about is if I could get in trouble flying here? There is a airport nearby but I have no intention of flying there or in a red zone.

Hey Lukas, thanks for your comment. Yes, I would need to see the address to look up the airspace, but you are allowed to fly in a blue zone with self unlock. You can use an app like B4UFLY, Aloft, Airmap, etc. to double-check the airspace. I hope this helps!

Thanks for your in depth step by step instructions. I went through all of the steps and everything lines up, but when I check the three boxes and hit "confirm" the red cannot take off notice remains -- it doesn't turn green "ready to go" like shown on your video. Any suggestions? Thanks again

Good video. Had to watch 6-7 times. Still can't get drone mavic pro to unlock in a blue zone where I am. Got the text from dji, entered it, checked all boxes and hit confirm. then crickets....... Once I hit confirm it changed but did not immediately or for that matter ever go to unlock. Shoot ruined. What did I miss

For Part 107 pilots DJI is intrusive and a pain in the neck . I had to re-unlock with each change of battery a couple of years ago. Its up to the pilot and not the vendor. The device I use does not have internet...

Ok on the map asking to click on a pin which is about 1 mile where I want to fly in a blue zone. I click on the pin and nothing shows up on the click on a pin area box above where your SN goes..

So I have a COA to fly in a restricted area at 50ft AGL. I went to fly safe and created a unlocking zone that was approved. I am home now but I wanted to make sure that I downloaded that unlocking zone. I logged into my djigo 4 app and refreshed the unlocking zones and there it is. I downloaded it to the aircraft. My question is this. I am not in that zone right now because I am home, when I activated that unlocking zone it tells me that the aircraft cannot take off. Is this because I am not in that zone? I thought that I would still be able to fly anywhere in uncontrolled space with the addition to the unlocked zone but it appears that when you activate that zone you can only fly there. Is this correct?

In the gray altitude restriction zone can you still fly and if so how do you know up to what altitude as you said you can't unlock in this zone? Thanks

Yes, you can still fly...you can use DJI's Geo Zone Map to research what the max altitude in that grey zone would be.

Outstanding Video!! Thanks for producing it. One quick question regarding the custom unlock, once we receive approval via email, we will still need to go back to the App (connected to the drone) and import the flight license similar to the steps you showed on self-unlock. Correct?

@@uavcoach I had trouble the first time I tried this and thought everything was set up before I went into the zone. Had to go back (don't have data on my drone phone) to try again. Turned out, I had to click on the Aircraft button in the Unlocking License list. I guess it doesn't tell the drone I'm authorized without that step. It defaults to the App button. What's the difference? I have to click on each to tell the app and the drone that I'm authorized? You didn't go into detail on that section. Great video, BTW!

@@gregorysmith293 Yes, there's that additional step of telling the drone that you've been authorized. The drone can't connect the dots on its own like that, not yet anyway!

Trying unsuccessfully to find the Self Unlocking page - neither the link provided in the description takes me there (takes me to the map, but I could not find any button or link that would take me to a self unlocking page) nor does just typing in the flysafe map URL provide me with a self unlocking link. Can anyone help? I'm sure I must simply be overlooking something.

Hi Dwight, in DJI Agras app, you should be able to input your clearance code either under Aircraft Info on the Home Screen, or the Settings icon at the top right of the Operation View. I haven't seen it done in that software in a while, apologies for not being more specific!

I followed your steps but when it sends the authorization to my smart remote, and I click the accept boxes after transferring info to aircraft I get an user authentication error. What am I doing incorrectly

Maybe the serial number of your controller was input incorrectly? Click "About" when you're in the app and look for the serial number there. If that's not it, would recommend reaching out to flysafe@dji.com

I live in the blue zone. In air maps it is a class e with the safe altitudes and says "Automated authorization available at or below 200 ft." There is no LAANC here. So is the DJI disable good enough as long as I stay below 200 ft AGL. Your video seems to imply yes.

Hi Ed, if your research shows that this is not controlled airspace, then you do not need an airspace authorization. If it shows controlled airspace, you will not only need to unlock your drone, but also to obtain authorization, either through LAANC or the FAA Drone Zone.

And I would add that it doesn't matter where you are if you are flying indoors other than be careful and don't fly over people and have permission from the owner of the building your flying in. You might want to throw in insurance in case of a crash.

I get the Verification successful on the unlock but still in a Altitude zone 0 Feet on the controller app. I was previously getitng the checklist for authorization and it's changed. how to resolve this? thanks

Hmm, hard to diagnose without seeing exactly what you're seeing. Any chance you can record a screencast and have you narrate where you're getting stuck? Would be happy to take a closer look.

@@uavcoach some resets or just moving out of the authentication area seemed to fix it it takes 10 -15 minutes sometimes.. but I m getting a greyed out / missing landing / takeoff icon. other times coupled with the loss of streamed video. The drone responds to toggle moves but there's no telemetry data ( the numbers frozen at the same time as the video. the home botton doesn't work in this case either. I m not sure what the case is but I m at a full charge and not even 12 feet up or 12 feet out.

Hey, so I have a Mini 2. I have this mountain about half a mile behind my house, the peak is 3500 feet so I went and requested an unlock to max altitude of 3500 feet on a geozone i drew around the mountain. It was accepted by DJI. I took off from my house, all was normal and I flew up to the mountain and entered my custom geozone. After cruising around and taking some shots, I decided to return home. When I started the return home, the drone flew fine all the way up until it hit the edge of the geozone I drew. It then stopped suddenly and wouldnt let me leave it. I tried deactivating the geozone in mid flight but it wouldnt let me, and even after pressing the return to home button, the drone would not bust through the boundary of the geozone. I ended up having to land my drone on a trail on top of the mountain when it went into auto land mode. Luckily some cross country skiers found it. Did I do something wrong here? Is there a glitch in the app? Should I have taken off inside of the geozone and not outside of it? I have so many questions and cannot find any answers to this online. Thanks

Cory, thanks for reaching out. A lot of details needed in order to properly diagnose - have you tried reaching out to DJI directly to see if they can assist? For what it's worth, you're not allowed to fly higher than 400 feet here in the U.S. without special permission from the FAA. Surprised that you could even unlock an altitude in DJI's software that's higher than that? Glad you were able to find your drone!

Can someone explain why i am able to self unlock sometimes in different areas in town by checking all 3 boxes, following by a message saying “success”, and then other times it will still say “cannot lift off, no fly zone? I have data on my phone at the time and i try it multiple times to no success. I live by a small airport but i am still able to use self unlock feature most of the time. Thanks

@@uavcoach Hey, I contacted DJI via email and they ended up unlocking the area around my community where i have trouble self unlocking. I have it unlocked for 1 full year!!! Obviously i will stay as far away from the airport as i can and stick to 50 ft as stated on AIRMAP. Cheers

How does this work for the D.C. metropolitan area? I work for a construction company beyond the bounds of W.D.C., but one of my jobsites it just within the restricted no-fly zone. Will this method allow us to legally be accepted to fly the drone on our jobsite for taking progress videos and pictures? We're literally within a mile from the red zone border, about 19 miles away from W.D.C.

Ive gone through a update in firmware. Wondered if anyone else using a Crystal sky has impressive facepalm syndrome after importing to aircraft and getting an error on sliding the green slider over. connected internet customer unlock. Ive not met anyone yet that has done a CS without issue? If you have a current unlock, and in the zone it should turn green and allow take off .

And this is why the DJI air 2s in my first and last dji drone. were i leave ( Athens ) i cant even hover the drone at 1.5m of the ground autside my house without having to unlock geofensing . every f...ing time . almost the whole region of Attica is geofensed . At the end of the day as a lisensed pilot i bare the full responsibility for anything that could go wrong and nowone is sharing it . its just a pain in the but burning percentege of battery and spending 2-5 minutes every time u want to fly recreationaly and away from hospitalls, prisons and airports at lower altitudes that any aircraft would fly in this specific regions

Thomas, we're looking at the geofencing map for Attica / Athens in Georgia and not seeing anything about that area being geofenced. Are we looking at the wrong location?
