Had my first flight in controlled airspace. Authorized by NAV Canada to fly 300 ft. Had specific objectives, one being a shot directly above the location at the max altitude. Your idiotic Geo Zones f-ed me and limited me to 60m. Had no way of searching this during the flight. Your stupid restrictions may have cost me a major contract. Anyone reading this, go with any other drone brand but DJI. It's already complicated enough to go through the hassle of ground school + the advanced drone exam, now I have to waste time to unlock areas I'm already legally approved to fly in and it doesn't even sound reliable. This is ridiculous.

Tutorials are useful in many cases, but for things like this I prefer a written step by step manual. Not hard to describe and a checklist would be useful in this case. A video, not that much help in preparations before a flight.

I am with a 107 pilot and operate with an emergency response group with police and fire. I was called to take my drone over a dam that two people had fallen into. The dam was in a restricted area close to an airport. Command contacted the airport for authorization which they received and thanks to geo fencing my drone just said I was in a no fly zone. According to DJI there is now a process that I can go through so they will give me a code to unlock it. They will reply within an hour! Tell that to someone who is out there struggling to stay above water. Now I have to save up for a non dji drone which will let me help these people. If I had known this a year ago I never would have even considered dji! I am a volunteer and as the saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished.

This is why I chose the Autel Evo instead. This nonsense is not a legal requirement and DJI is taking on the role of FAA wannabes, establishing themselves as a quasi-policing organization. This is absurd and wrong and will bite them in the long run with decreased sales.

I had gone through DJI's online application for authorization (after getting FAA authorization) and never got a response. When I commented on another video DJI told me to send an email to their support department for assistance. What a joke.

I owned a Spark and now a Mavic2, I was asked by the EPA to do an aerial survey of a tank farm / storage facility. Contacted DJI and even though I had US Govt approval to fly, they said "we don't know about that, we'll get back to you in 24-48 hours". 48 hours came and went, ended up getting EVO on Amazon to get the job done.

This is definitely a huge negative about DJI. Instead of worrying about holding everyone’s hand, maybe DJI should think about fighting for their customers rights to fly. No rights will = no customers

Just opened a geo-fencing map of the NFZ that DJI implements. Its very reasonable (no flying near airports, not flying high further away parallel to airport strokes, not flying in nature sensitive areas, not flying on top of places where thousands of people gather). I honestly think its a big plus. And to top it of you can actually create a license when you want to fly somewhere. Freedom is good, but not when it comes at risk of other people (and ive seen some footage of drones at 1-2k altitude. Assholes.)

Geofencing is one of the reasons I will never again purchase a DJI product. Parrot or Autel for me now! I fly responsibly, but will not have anyone impose restrictions on My purchase!

These same restrictions will also be affecting my next purchases as well. I've (personally) owned 8 different DJI quads, and when these new restrictions were put into place I had to re-think what I am doing and I am also of the same mind. Problem is only 10% of ALL DJI licensees will be concerned with LEGAL, PRO flying, and so will largely just shrug off the hassles. Of professionals, I am not sure how many could afford to 'buck the system.' You certainly could not get a majority to refuse more purchases because of such policies, because there is almost "0" concern for the plight of others, the future of 'drone' related business among human beings in this time. There is no solidarity, only competitiveness, and so those who comply would simply see you're dropping out as their opportunity. In an environment like our current social-economic one there will be NO "revolution." This is the sad truth. And this is not to mention the simple fact that few are intelligent enough to see the 'writing on the wall' ... down the line when ONLY once you receive permission can you fly at all! This is (unfortunately) coming, and it is because people are embracing the new global order which is so new there is not yet a name for i. However, I'd have to call it a 'Agendized and Sequestered Society of Belligerent Imperialistic and Tyrannical Establishmentarians .' : )

I think any human being agrees that if we pay for a product we want the whole product without any limitations. Also it does not make sense that this is about safety when your app allows the drone to take off but then does a force landing regardless of where it will land once it realizes that its a no fly zone. Can you at least make it return to home instead? I am still shocked by this and the fact that these companies get away with stuff like this. People will get injured, drones will get lost and destroyed and all done by your app

Unfortunately, my girlfriend’s son just lost a Mavic Air in the ocean because DJI’s protocol forced a water landing due to the detection of an Authorized Zone AFTER a successful takeoff. No signs were posted at this location. I now know to look for these zones on the DJI GEO Map but my issue is that the software should have either notified the pilot at time of takeoff - or - allowed a safe landing at the home location. Instead, the drone could not be controlled at all and descended straight down into the ocean. It hesitated before entering the water and we were hoping the software would realize the landing was NOT on land and possibly divert the drone home. Unfortunately, the drone followed DJI orders and succumbed to a watery grave in the Pacific. In my opinion, we should have been notified before or during takeoff - NOT after the drone was 200 yards off shore.

@@chrisratchford8153 DJI should notify people of its restrictions before purchasing. Had I know of this I would not have bought a DJI product. Now I am stuck. Too bad they don't have a money-back satisfaction guaranty. I would send it back in a heartbeat.

I'm part 107 certified and can get instant approval via LAANC why ON EARTH should I have to go through all this? If you have a part 107 there should be an option to skip all this.

Flew my Mavic in a yellow warning zone. Got notification about flying a warning zone, ticked all the boxes, etc., - and it worked just fine. Went the next day with my Spark to same location and I didn't receive any pop-up notification on app... nothing. Spark wouldn't fly. SMH. I have to agree with other posts...there are going to be a lot of people that are going to say "screw this" and just give up on drones as a hobby if DJI doesn't come up with some hassle free solution. Just too bothersome in my opinion.

We understood, however, all unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operators must abide by all regulations from organizations such as the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) and any other applicable airspace regulations in their area. In order to increase flight safety and prevent accidental flights in restricted areas, we introduce a No Fly Zones feature to help everyone use their DJI products safely and legally. We think our users might also not want to violate the regulation, right? If a user has the authorization to fly in this location, please contact our flysafe team, after we review the necessary information, we will provide them with a custom solution, so the pilot can fly there legally. @@DJISupportGlobal It is the pilot's responsibility to obey the rules and regulations. At least that what the FAA says. There is no law or regulation that requires DJI to ground aircraft or force landings.

I can't even fly my drone in my own home or backyard. I'm going to sell my dji and never buy one again, limit the height or altitude a dji can fly near airports, but not grounding them for good.

GrimX, sorry for your trouble, just to clarify, our geofencing systems are designed to provide some general protection to sensitive locations around the world, not to match any particular set of regulations that apply to a certain user. We suggest that pilots fly in an area where there is permitted to fly, pilots can refer to the geo-zone map at www.dji.com/flysafe/geo-map. Hope for your understanding.

I can’t take off from Talasea District bec there was an airstrip but has been shut down 15years ago. There was no network coverage so can’t do Auto Unlock.

I am in Television News, and you would not believe how many times I'm in a zone with 100 to 200 feet clearance, I've got my LAANC approval. I'm good to go, but will the drone let me fly? No! It say's I'm restricted when I'm not. So frustrating, because I'm usually in a hurry anyway.

Geo restricted zones are incorrect in the location I live preventing me from flying. Contacted dji about this problem asking to update their map but it looks that they don't care. Even county I live in is not correct. Still nothing... Future customers beware. Check their map before you buy from dji or you won't be able to use your drone at all.

A friend of mine lost his Mavic because he accidentally flied into an NFZ. Mavic decided it wanted to land and he had no control. It was over a forest. But wait, there's more. My school has a drone program and occasionally we fly inside our gym. The near by airport NFZ actually includes half of the gym (we didnt know this). A student was flying a school Mavic Pro to get footage for a film, and accidentally crossed the boundary inside of the gym. The Mavic proceeded to fly into a wall and destroy itself. The GPS was turned off so when manual control was lost the aircraft did not hold position. I was flying over a parking lot (Under part 107) and entered a NFZ (Where I was authorized to fly in and had already unlocked) Mavic proceeded to drop out of the sky and nearly landed on a car. The fencing DJI imposes on you is really stupid. It completely ruins the perfection of their aircraft.

Dji you can't just land a drone in a nfz zone. Just make a invisible wall and or send the drone back to the home point. Landing a drone in nfz is a real danger to vehicles people and more. This is a deadly mistake.

I had authorization did everything correctly, after about 24h I was flying (WORKING!!!) at the same location and suddenly my drone started landing by itself... It landed on a tree... Fortunately I only broke 2 props... IT SHOULD RETURN TO HOME... WTF WERE THINKING DJI?!?!? I had to renew the authorization and continue working...

This is why I currently own the last DJI product I will own. If a pilot has FAA authorization DJI should not get involved. More hoops to jump through. Good-bye DJI.

DJI should restrict itself to warning only: It is useful to get warned with up-to-date information. In the end the pilot is the responsible person, NOT a non authorized company. Get this in order, DJI!!!!

When I fly I stay legal. DJI is a pain that can be sidestepped with a GPS faker program on the cell phone. I am all for ignoring DJI, but I insist that anyone using this technique fly legal within the FAA guidelines.

I was about to purchase a DJI drone, glad I found out about this before I did. If I purchase something I own it at that point and don't want the company telling me what to do with it. I'll be looking at products from other manufacturers.

Are you allowed to fly in a yellow warning zone...I'm confused...I'm very new to this and I'm struggling with all the rules and regs....I'm in a Yellow zone just outside of a small airport..I unlocked it on the dji app by leaving my phone number but I dont think this still gives you permission to fly

simpatwork , autel evo, autel is about to release a second version as well. You can use kitty hawk app to get permission to fly near many airports assuming your in the US. And airport with laanc system , but the evo doesn’t need it to take off, it’s just so you can stay compliant.

Die Freischaltung einer NFZ Zonen funktioniert mit DJI sehr gut. Das einzige was mich bei der Übermittlung gestört hat war ,das man nur 5MB Daten übermitteln kann. Falls ihr Fragen habt könnt ihr mir schreiben.

hi dji. i understand the need to do geo fencing but these restrictions are really ridiculous. i just got my mini 2 and i havnt been able to fly it yet. Put a restriction on height eg. 50m/100m up and 150m away so we can at least fly our drones. no airplane fly so low. right now i have a drone that is useless to me.

I had one purchased and cancelled my order because my property is in a red zone. If I can't sit on my porch and fly my drone around my yard because it's a hazard to aircrafts, DJI better come to my property and regulate these trees that are in the way of approaching airplanes

Our company encountered something regarding this that nobody seems to have an answer for. Terrain Following in unlocked DJI Geo Zones. At this moment we are unable to perform our mapping mission (survey company) because although we have unlocked the Geo Zone up to 400ft, we need to terrain follow in this same area going up approximately 1,000ft from the take off point. We will always be under 400AGL but the unlocked Geozone only will allow our M300 to go 400ft above takeoff elevation. The GeoZone doesn't take into account our need for terrain following. This is a pretty big oversight for those doing topography mapping with the P1 or L1 and M300 systems.

I have a small GA strip about six miles out, there is no one to call, as its an uncontrolled airport. Why would you have to turn off the license for flying outside of the restricted zone?

Unless your strip is registered this should not be an issue as CASA / FAA etc would not be aware of it.

What strip, or landing area isn't registered? On the b4you fly app, we have helipads in my area that have been out of service for 20 years.

JimsEquipmentShed DJI stands to make billions selling quads to amazon and gov the sooner that 0-400 foot airspace is secure and impossible for a hobby flyer they can deem it open The gov already has special Interest lobbyist and political heads talking about the dangers risks and nuisances and close calls and billions of new pilots and what ever else they can fabricate. Won’t be long before cops and game wardens and even Amazon field Techs and mailmen have a wand then can point at your drone and get your serial number and send you a $500 to $5000 fine by FAA It’s coming they want to sell $30.ooo drones not $500.

ABOXofMONSTERS I don’t think DJI will see any of that pie. In fact, if they start the $500.00 fining thing, sales of controlled and serialed drones will fall through the floor. People will start buying hacked units, use freeware, and they will all be ghosts. You will never see a 30k fine, it’s simply not enforceable.

If you call DJI for help and get the least bit frustrated, they hang up on you. If you call back, they put you on hold and disconnect you again. It wouldn’t be so bad if the support team knew the least little bit about how to help...but you’ll get a bunch of “I don’t know”s before they hang up on you. Love their drones, hate everything about them afterwards.

Hi, A strange situation I get when unlocking my Avata in an Airport Authorized zone. Every time I get the license and follow the steps to import it to the drone, motors start to spin for about 30 sec until stop. Going again to the DJI Fly app I have to repeat the previous steps, clicking the 2 boxes accepting full responsibility and the drone motors spin again for another 20/30/40 sec. until stop. What could be the problem?

The restricted zones are too extreme. By law I can't fly over a prison or jail and then the 30m regular restriction however they've set a perimeter of roughly 1km diameter that covers municipal park. But then the prison that's ~4km away only restricts flyovers...

So DJI Support, how long does it take before I get approval from you, to fly in a restricted zone? I live in a house 3km south of a major airport away from aircraft flight paths, but can't do an operational check like a 3ft HOVER, to verify my drone is operating fine, before going to fly in a non-geo lock zone. Want to be able to do it indoors with no wind, to run tests, make settings changes, check lights, etc but can't because of your geo-lock. Please advise!

I am having problems with unlocking my drone. I log into my dji account. After i log in i select authentication application. Then i select personal account. Then United States. Then i click next. I typed my last name then first name then my email then phone number. i select +1 then i enter the rest of the phone number in. I don’t know if +1 is correct. Because i live in United States of America. The i select industry/type. Then i click on get sms code. I havent received any code. I have waited about 45 minutes. Am I doing anything wrong. Please help.

I live 7 miles from airport and my Spark is not allowed to take off in my backyard. The policy should be to just limit the maximum height! Make it 50m for example. No passenger aircraft will be dangered.

Hey guys, I bought / own a property that happens to be a geozone / authorization zone. I literally cannot fly my dron on my own property without unlocking it. But as you know the time window of unlocking is restricted to 24 h. The property has military background and is hence listed as authorization zone. But it's inactive for more than 20 years and since I'm its owner I should be able to do whatever !§"(§% I want... you get the idea ... Is there a way for me to unlock it permanently? I have documents stating my ownership of the property, of course. Where do I direct my request to? Cheers

I don't need a foreign manufacturer to give me permission. Furthermore, most of the geo zones DJI has in place are either incorrect or not valid. Even if you provide the paper work they demand to unlock a red zone, you will get denied. DJI, do what you do best in bringing us awesome drones but stop pushing this GEO crap. Doesn't work. I'm responsible and take accountability if I do something wrong. Yeah! All my drones are all GEO free.

FRUSTRATED!!!!! I received LAANC authorization. On DJI Go 4 app in General I select Unlocking License. It shows the authorization number, then says Totally 1, and underneath that the Generation Time date and time HOWEVER, next to that says Disconnected. On videos I have seen there is a button that says import to aircraft but mine doesn’t have that it says disconnected!. My controller still says IN NFZ. I tap app and sync and says Sync successful. I tap aircraft and a completely different region is listed with an expired time. How do I get rid that? How do I get the controller to accept the authorization to fly?

Yes, just check out this: You can now get instant authorization from the FAA. Just look up LAANC or login to app.skyward.io/s#/sign-in and create a mission. Once you do that you can obtain FAA Authorization in most parts of the US. See this website also www.faa.gov/uas/programs_partnerships/uas_data_exchange/

Whether or not you get authorization from the FAA, The Drone itself has software that locks the Copter so it will not fly..... You could have a signed document from the President but it does you no good if your Quad will not start up.

You are confusing. In order to unlock the Quad itself you must do it through DJI...……………………….The LAANC instant authorization has nothing to do with unlocking the Quad. And yes I have unlocked my Quads many times as well using the DJIsafe not LAANC. That is merely for FAA authorization to fly.

The video is inconsistent. The visual shows a field to input the flight controller number on the self unlock application, but the voice over says to use your drone serial number. Which is it? That alone would be causing headaches and mistakes!

Could you please confirm that point ? For example the color codes of zones is not the same. The process to unlock through the App is not the same from now. Did an online self unlock last night. It said success. Come to work today and I get user authentication 13010. Will not fly. I look like an ass in front of co-workers. Thanks DJI. I was about to buy a zoom to spite the marked up tariff pricing but no way I’m dropping that kind of money for a drone you won’t let me fly. I’ll be selling the spark and the air and buying a couple of drones I can fly at will. Such a shame you guys make awesome drones, but the best drone on the planet is worthless when it’s turned into a paperweight by glitchy software.

Thanks for all the self governing Nanny laws No problems ever yet the real government going into passing unreasonable laws anyway pretty soon we will only be able to fly In our own yard at 50 feet. All you need is a five mile zone around an airport That’s it ! Your competitors are already getting close to making a Mavic copy and you will lose 80% of customers to a company that stays out of that licensing crap. Just telling ya what’s coming. There’s already a drone at the same cost with night vision dam near what you sell except their camera does more. You need to scrap all this crap. We got 54000 law books already.

Mmm glad I found out about this before I purchased the Mav 2! This totally changed my mind! I understand where you all are coming from but, I believe it has more to do with our government making you all make a decision because of the bad decisions that were made by some Drone owners. I just think it's ridiculous to not be able to test your drone out in your home or back yard. If you all can deny a drone owner from taking off I'm quite sure you all can allow it to fly at a certain height that wouldn't interfere with airports.

@@MentallFloss I know this comment is over a year old. But there's probably a sketchy unlocked DJI APK that could unlock the geo zones for Android devices. I'm assuming the geo zones are built into the app and just trigger via GPS because they would have to be constantly updated.
