Imagine a pill that would aid cognitive decline, help prevent macroscopic stroke, aid sleep, and add 7 years to your life. How much would you pay for it? Would you take it?
It turns out that pill is free, and it's available to all. It's called Purpose.
Richard Leider, founder of Inventure - The Purpose Company, is one of America’s preeminent executive-life coaches. He is ranked by Forbes as one of the “Top 5” most respected executive coaches, and by the Conference Board as a “legend in coaching.” Richard's ten books, including three best sellers, have been translated into 20 languages. He is the Chief Curator of content for AARP’s Life Reimagined Institute.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

This gentleman is a sweetheart. I love everything he said. Never give up on your dreams. Bless you kind sir.

This is not about giving up on your dreams; it's about the importance of finding your dreams in the first place. Richard talks about how only 1/3 of people find their dreams. Our school was founded on the purpose of helping children find their calling in life and a deep sense of purpose. Achieving this at a young age (even if it's not their eventual purpose) is a hugely powerful motivator.

I'll give you a reason "to be a useful member of a society" If one is useful then that spurs us on.

I love this. I left the church I grew up in over a year ago and since then have felt like I've lost my purpose. I recently have felt like I need to be doing something fulfilling, but work and going to college full-time takes up most of my time. However, I know there are little things I can do until I have more time to devote to volunteering.

Absolutely great! I love how easy it is to understand such complex definitions when they're explained by masters like Mr. Leider

I love to make art. To paint, sing and play piano. Our kids are grown....and now life has seemed to default to restart. I say, go with what's in your heart. Then do it.

Question - what do you do if you don’t even know what your gifts and passions are? I find the quests for purpose and calling exceptionally frustrating!

Great talk and some good point except for the fact that we don't need money in the current form. In fact, contemporary money is what is destroying nature. And we DO need nature. Money, in its current form, reverses the natural, and therefor true, value system. True value was replaced for fake value and thus we see a deflation of natural harmony and balance in our world. The loss of pollinating insect populations, the loss of biodiversity, the rice of ocean acidification and plastification being just a meager selection of the examples for this. How do you think we, as humanity, can solve this problem? Would love to hear advice.

How might one find themselves another purpose that exists as surmounting or at the very least equally powerful and profound as the original experience? Losing ones purpose after experiencing such at any point after said acquisition has resulted in many terrible possibilities some of which include: suicide, irreversible mental trauma, mental/emotional damage which often times facilitates in physical detriment from neglect/drug use or other, permanent state of hopelessness, paranoia, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, and much more. My point is, purpose is profound, some claim purpose and establishing ones purpose is the most important day of ones life. Finding purpose is beyond empowering, unlike anything ever before experienced.
