Just wanted to stay thank you Chris. This weekend was my first weekend getting started on firewood. Got 2 white oak trees all cut up ready to split throughout the week. Finally got something to keep me out the house and off video games as well as some much needed exercise. Thank you!
Congrats. You will notice a huge difference in mental health and also a great sense of pride in what you accomplish. Just remember that some folks have been doing wood for a very long time. Compare yourself to yourself. Start slow, but start smart. Use mechanical advantage to your advantage. Some day, you might be running a 48C so keep fresh on the video game joy stick.
Small refinements to our equipment and processes can have significant benefits for work efficiency and output. Super to see you reaping the blessings of friends with complimentary skills and equipment working together. Purr-fect Woodyard team.
Hey Chris! Great video today! Nicely done there continuing to plow through the rounds! Nice hear about the upcoming plans for the processor and the wood order coming :). Another fun day for sure an nice seeing Burt near the end there! Thanks again for having us over! Andrew from NB :)
You say elevator, I say conveyor. Glad we do not have to debate escalator and silo or silo and elevator. Those double wheel tongue jacks are fantastic. Nice video.
The chain trick is slick. I picked up a small chain at the farm store that comes in a plastic pail, and zip tied the pail to the back of the splitter so there's a handy place to keep it with the splitter all the time.
Thanks Chris for the stuck wood lesson . i have worked for hours to get block unstuck and never thought about using the Cylinder to pull it back John Nichols
Hi Chris, the chain works good, but like I have mentioned before on your channel, a nylon tree strap works too, with less risk to scoring the hydraulic cylinder. The tree strap is also lighter and more compact to store.
I'm slipping! I woke up way early and started catching up on some of your previous videos and lost track of time. 0530 came and went and I missed the race for first comment. Oh well, stand aside and make room for others. Thanks for the video Chris.
I do not use the little bell, but you can set the bell to ding when a new video is uploaded. Bill has so many things going off on his phone that it sounds like an ICU in the house. He ignores all of the alarm.
Good morning Chris, that rig on the wood conveyor is awesome, I watched u guys move the conveyor in yesterday vid, I have a Jack like that on my wood splitter to move it around
I have been using that method for years to get off a knot that was stuck on the splitter. I figured if it had enough power to get it stuck, it should have enough power to pull it off. It takes a little while to do it but once you hook it up, it is instant. Great advise to those who don't know about it. My 4 way just slides off the main wedge, so we then just lift it off and use the main wedge. It pretty much cuts through most pieces. It is great to work with someone that knows what they are doing and has the same work ethic as you.
Hey Chris 🙋🥝 now that is a clever idea putting the trolley jack's on like that. That Bert fella is a smart guy. Also smart the chain pull. If I had a American nickel for every time I've had to slamm wood off the tractor hydrolic splitter with a sledgehammer I'd be able to retire to somewhere nice like Wisconsin 😬 I have no idea why that never occurred so next time, I'm gonna try it. Double smart today you better have a coffee and some bikkies (cookies?) And slow down so the rest of us can catch up, 🥝🙋😆 GNI
Good Morning New Zealand. . I like the chain technique. As soon as Bill sees me with a hammering device, he reminds me to drop my hammer. Hand surgeon banned me from beating on anything. But when your only tool is a hammer, everything looks like a nail...mm
Hit the Like, Subscribe and Share folks... Helps to grow the community and get Chris. Bert, Adam and Kenny new toys!! That Pro- Cessoor at Eds place was mesmerizing!!
Hi Chris. Good video as always. On my wallenstein one day a log got stuck and thanks to one of your previous videos I remembered the chain trick, and it came right out. But my wallenstein I didn't have to take out my 4 way wedge like you to put 2 way, I just had to drop my 4 way all the way down and there is my 2 way. Lol!
Great splitting!! Ive used your chain method since you taught us earlier!! Beats using a sledgehammer and possibly tearing something up. Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
Chris ~ I just learned last week on my own...that using the single wedge for Bigger Chunks & rounds was much better than with the 4-way. PLus the added bonus from this Ah Ha experience was less waste build-up underneath the splitter. Man...I should be watching your video's daily....however I gave up my Catholic card long ago...LOL Thanks for ringing home a valuable point and NOW I learned I need a chain to get the Big Rounds unstuck. Keith aka CBJ
My dad used to carry 1/4 grade 8 in his tractor, he was always trying to pull out the biggest tractor with the smallest chain on the ranch....good stories. Those were the days, never got killed or wounded, underwear got changed frequently.
Great idea with the chain Chris. I usually love tap with a 10lb hammer, but the chain is nice. I single wedge big tree service wood as well. Have a great day!
To avoid the chain flying off, I generally use a longer chain then just wrap it around a few times. This way, you aren't depending on that one hook attached to the chain, and it gives you better coverage around the round.
I cut my wood service stuff out the pile. Luckily it’s not very far away and they pull the good wood out where I can get to it and it’s all oak. I love my brother in-laws.
hi there good splitting i like that little splitter fast and simple . i can't pull stuck ones off like that .the pin in the rod is to small and shears off , the old sledge will have to do . .john
You outta tell Easton made to add a hook/finger to the back side of the press foot when they cut out the plate so a chain can easily be looped around. It would be an easy-to-use upgrade to their machine.
Hi, that's the way I unstick the occasional nasty wood on my 12-22. But I use a nylon strap because a chain would damage the finish and if I chip off the paint it'll rust. A strap won't hurt as bad if it slips and whaps me in the face and my face needs all the help it can get! lol Also, I put a cheap tarp down to collect the little pieces of wood before I start splitting. That way it's easy to clean up and I use it for kindling. (The wood, not the tarp) But I just cut and split to heat my house. You, on the other hand, are mass producing firewood. My next move is to try and experiment with soy wax to make fire starter. Shalom/gw
We used to see you under an E Z Up splitting in a drizzle or when the sun was beating down. I will keep an eye out for a two man e z up shelter at the garage sales.
Something to think about when buying a splitter we have one with the push plate on the rod and one with the wedge on the rod. I like the wedge on the rod for big rounds so you don't have to keeping bringing the log back into place you can chip away at it. And it has push-off plates by the handle to push off a stuck round. Your style is nice when the log needs one split and onto the conveyor. Pros and cons to both styles. And yes i have a dimple on one rod that was sanded down and epoxyed and before long it will probly rip the seal out of the cylinder again. A very expensive brain fart!
Question: would it benefit you to put the totes in the trailer and have the belt direct feed the totes, then use the tractor to take the totes off the traile?
Perhaps replace the bolt that holds the push plate on the ram with a slightly longer one as an attachment point for a grab hook? 4-5" heavy sloppy snow overnight in the Mpls area headed your way.
Chris, you are going to just pile the wood on pallets or bins to keep it off the ground, as opposed to stacks to dry? Are you not worried about mold? I was recently watching some of your old videos down in the #400’s and you were talking about wood forming mold, yes on the ground but even in piles…
Hi Chris from East Tennessee. Today it was 75 degrees. It has been a crazy warm winter down here!! Well I moved a ton of dry firewood that I did not burn this winter. Mostly over 2 year old oak. I stacked this wood together in 2 rows with no space in between. It’s dry already so I was moving it off my garden spot. Trying to do a bigger garden this year! Question: Do you have to have a cup of coffee or a coke to get started in the morning? I am a sweet tea or coke fan!!! What does everyone drink in the morning to get their day off to that great start???? 24:26
Chris you want another trick about the chain . See the 45 degree metal behind your push plate get Bert welder a chain hook onto the 45 pc . That way you won’t hurt your push rod out from the cycle. Them dirty tuff block take the chainsaw at it time run half cut into them . When it come to the wood splitter be ready to split . Chris don’t be hit your control valve . Teach your yourself to open the valve at slow speed . Like to drop dirty from a big cat loader into dump do that , your in for a ride in the cab . All valve work the same in or out , right to left , and up or down . Practice same as tractor Chris . Bert not a bad operator probably give you some tricks ( practice is the keys ) . Wood hound have a great day THINK SAFETY and always SAFETY FIRST . 😊
Good morning Chris!!😀😀 Spring just sucks but it's here. Our sandhill cranes came home yesterday. So they usually get a couple snows on them before winter completely gives up. How much snow did you get last night? Take care my friend!!😀😀💚💚 Logger Al
@@annmariekowalski7505 Good morning Ann!!😀😀 It really surprised me to see them back this early. Usually they don't show up until the end of the month. The starlings have been back for about 3 weeks now and we had a Robin on the 14th of last month but we haven't seen it since.
Hey Chris - Are you planning on showing anything from the MeatEater podcast you and Kenny were on ? Anything of the before/after events. I am sure it was a good time.
The REAL Man of Steel would never complain about sore shoulders!! If Nolan Ryan had used an elevator instead of throwing every pitch, he might still be active in the big leagues! So,... you can last longer, more years to work on your tricky pitches!! More years for your pickup's rear window to be at risk! More years to be Bank of America's favorite wealth building firewood chucker!! More years to be mistakenly asked for Red Green's autograph! Yup,...livin' the Dream! Gets me all inspired and motivated to go right to Dreamland too!! GNI
Did Skidder Kev teach you about piling up wood real high or did you watch his video he did some time ago? Nothing like you did before and have to pay attention to some things iirc.
You might look at welding a chain hook to the top of the angle brace behind the push plate. I would be a much stronger point of contact than welding to the top of the push plate.
I think you're awesome and great attitude . Just curious because I only split wood for personal and family use maybe 25 cord a year but why so small ? I like small ones but also like big old pieces , my favorite are some of the ones I saw you run through again that are 2.5-3" tall by 6" to even 12" wide I can stuff right at the top of my stove . But you are obviously well seasoned , what as your theory? If you answer I totally get it I barley had time to write this. Good stuff thanks
I do. I take my husband while he kicks and screams to the warm water therapy lap pool. He has great difficulty climbing steps and walking. I have him hang onto me as he walks forward and backward; does squats, sumo squats, one legged lunges, butterflies or clams, high knees, side steps, side step one legged lunges, crunches, crab walks, and crossovers. This is the result of jumping out of perfectly good helicopters in Vietnam. After an hour of listening to the whining, he realizes that he feels better.
Nice setup. Much of the split pieces are what I would consider almost kindling for my free standing stove. Anything through about 5 inches I burn whole. Larger through about a foot is only quartered. Much less processing than what you have to go through for your customers.
How many hundreds of cord you think that splitter done? I like to watch the processor but I also think it something that 95 percent of the viewer never could afford. I be happy with good spitter. I got a slow one. I working up to better stuff. Definitely don’t want to sink a log truck in that mud. Keep up the good work
I concede. I actually know nothing about cats. I confer with my peeps who are owned by cats for tios and tricks. Now dogs, that I have something to bark about.
Greetings from Finland! I just found your channel and i find it very interesting. You explain things very clearly and you inspire people. I haven"t watch all your videos (yet) but yes, there is lots of good stuff! Now stupid question. Do your ever had a problems with snakes? Here in Finland we have a small snake called kyy, it´s a subspecies of viper wich is relative of rattlesnake. Sometimes they like to hide in woodpiles and they are very unwelcome surprises tough they are quite harmless to adult person. I guess it´s a different story with rattlesnake. Or do your cats take care of them? Oh, btw, subscribed your channel. Keep up the good work!
Hi Kristian I don’t live in Wisconsin like Chris but in central New York State which is several hundred miles east. We do have big rattle snakes in the eastern part of the state exclusively in the remote areas of the mountains. They are definitely big enough to kill an adult if not treated soon after being bit. They are rare, in fact, they may be an endangered species. Personally, I wouldn’t mind having a couple around my wood stacks to take care of all the mice that like to build their nests in them. 😊
@@davidn1369 Hi David! Yep, you are right about that. Mices and rats are much more harmful especially to the property than some snake here or there. Snakes are important part of natural balance. Yet every time you happen to meet one, you take fright because somehow they happen to appear when you least expect ..
If you are working 59 hours a week at your job and doing family stuff, I vote for the E.m. Axis instead. If you have no job, family or other hobbies then stick with what you are using.
If your using homeowner saws I would say go to pro series first to make cutting faster then go with a faster splitter. All depend on what you value your time as too. If you have friends and family that help 7 cord can easily be done in a weekend with 4 people with your splitter.
Appreciate the feedback. Being retired it’s not as much about time as it is about the saving my back and body. I’ve realized if I’m going to buy something it’s worth getting it sooner rather than later. But it is not cheap. I’m good on power heads (ms 661 and ms500i)
@adam link then you should look at something with a log lift for bigger stuff and can use it as a staging table for smaller stuff that is easy to pick up. Some of the bigger rounds in the pile we were splitting off of weight over 60lbs.
Why pin in the single wedge? 4 way I understand. I’d just weld another button on each side of the single wedge at the highest pin hole point. Another thing I just found out about the axis twin beam frame…here I thought that was a design eastonmade came up with. Come to find out Cord King has been using the design for years. Burt is a machinist? Like a hands on old school maintenance or cnc programmer?
I once saw an old wise man loading a trailer full of wood from a pile using a conveyor. ru-vid.com_fq_QmX3viI?feature=share That’s right it was my father. Lol he is old and he is wise. He says “Give a lazy man a hard job, and he will find an easy way to do it”. Daddy is lazy like a farmer, only farmers will understand.
Grade 7 or 8 (lifting chain) 1/4 inch or 5/16 inch probably do not need 3/8. Grade 7 will stretch a little , grade 8 will not it just pops and metal flys......(death by chain)
Be careful with the Temptations. It's meant to be a cat treat and not cat food. It will definitely cause a fight. It's cat CRACK. Like a good candy bar for you and me. Look, I'm no cat guy, but some stupid cat came into my house thru the doggy door and immediately buddied up with my 100 pound dog. He wouldn't leave, now I'm a cat owner. I thought the dog was supposed to eat him. Anyway, I got a cat and now I know about some cat stuff. BTW, I wanted to call the cat Bernie, cuz he just showed up,and now he gets free housing, food, healthcare etc. Looking forward to 1000. Keep it up.
It is harder using a hydraulic log splitter than a little effort using a splitting maul! Weak people who can't swing a maul use hydraulic log splitters!!
Really?? I produce 600 face cords a year, I'm 60 and I work 80 hours every week between my 3 businesses the last year I was a man was 5 years ago when I cut and split 80 face cords by hand after 45 years of splitting wood, now it is just for fun but no real money can be made hand splitting.
@@InTheWoodyard I also don't jew the people I help with firewood! A cord is 128 cubic feet no matter how you cut it! I've proved over a dozen time's that ive won bets with my splitting maul v.s people I know with hydraulic log splitters. That's how I have 2 hydraulic log splitters next to my shop when I beat them in splitting wood for an entire day😊😁
