If you own or if your planning to buy an Atomos Ninja V, in todays video I will show you How to Update the Atomos Ninja V firmware to the latest version available. Updating your firmware will allow you to keep your Ninja V up to date making it compatible with newer Cameras, Encoders and LUTS. THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO. After 2 hours, I literally watched all these other RU-vidrs and I think they all missed the most important step which was formatting the ssd in the ninja before proceeding to disconnect, connect to pc and download software. I’m now updating my ninja thanks to you. Great step by step walk through 🤝🏼

idk what happened w other comment. but thanks for the video. no one really mentions formatting the video. your vid solved it. but for me, when i plugged my ssd back into my ninja v, it would not auto update. I had to shut down ninja, install ssd and it updated.

That could happen too. It probably depends on ssd you have, sometimes they don’t get detected right away. 👍🏼

He might have said this in the video, but in order to successfully update with his step by step process. Your Atomos battery NEEDS to be 100% charged. It wasn't auto-popping up, but once I switched batteries. I got the Update Prompt.

I bought this one from Amazon .. amzn.to/3bk9SQ1 .. My camera is on a rig most of the time so I didn't wanted a long cable. Also is very rigid, depending on your setup you might one to get a longer one or a coiled one.

Good day, for a brand new SSD (SanDisk), Do I need to create a "New Simple Volume" via desktop/laptop before plugin it in the Atomos?

The Atomos should detect is not formatted and ask you to do it, if doesn’t go in the menu and do a format. If still doesn’t show up then do it in the computer creating a new simple volume and use exfat, then plug it in to the Atomos and do a format again to make sure it is fully working.

After i put the file on the SSD, i started up the Ninja V, and nothing cames up. So then i hold the power button down for 10 seconds and it says "Error Updateing AtomOS there has been an error updayeing your firmware" i just got it and it seems to have factory settinfs still so im guessing its the very first firmware it says its 10.1 anyone have any ideas on what I should do?

hello, how do you connect ssd to pc ? atomos docking station ? isn't it dangerous to plug a ssd when atomos is powered on ?

You can use something like this .. geni.us/kPPEGd .. Sata to USB adapter. You can hotswap the SSD when the Atomos is on and it will be ok. The only thing is to make sure to stop the recording before removing the SSD or you might lose the recording and even if you remove it, still going to create a recovery file that Atomos will try to repair when you connect the SSD back, so you don't lose the footage but that doesn't means that it will recover everything.

please help. I bought the Ninja V off ebay. when I go to activate it, it says that the DID number is already in use. The seller is not helping, and telling me to contact Atomos support. Any ideas on how I can fix this issue?

If the seller is the genuine owner he should be able to go into the Atomos website and unregistered the device, if not Atomos costumers support is your only option because the device needs to be registered to your email to get the ProRes activation codes.

@@MYTECHREVIEW he changed his email to my email thinking that would work. But it didnt, and now he is claiming he cant log into his account now. And also said there was no option to unregester his account. I did message support, so hopefully they repsond soon. Thanks for your help.

@@joefoto The email and serial number are linked to get the activation codes .. He can use his email and serial to get the codes and send it to you as well. Hopefully you get this resolved.

Can Samsung 860 QVO support higher bitrate codecs such as proresRAW HQ or proresRAW?

Any SSD should work with no issues .. Prores Raw 422 writes around 210mb/s and Prores Raw 444 at 332mb/s .. The Samsung 860 QVO writes at 550mb/s so even if you record 444 you got plenty of speed to write 4k 6k or 8k with no issues.

Probably what you read is Megabites transfers speeds and Megabytes writing speeds. Depending on your camera this will saturate the amount data transfer to your SSD but still will write at the max amount allowed by your settings. For example I record on my GH5 All-I 422 10bit and the files written are 400mb/s (megabytes) and I haven't had any issues. The SSD cache will dictate the speed transfer (Megabites) before it get written and usually from a camera, this all will depend on your settings. Even footage taken from a RED camera at 8k doesn't require a special SSD, they literally use a regular SSD on their own form factor. Actually Linus Tech Tips did a video related to this SSD's.

I'm guessing the question is, why I didn't plug in the SSD before booting ? .. I didn't plug it in just for reference, this way you see it boot up, the other reason is that it might boot it into recovery. When you plug in your SSD with a firmware in it, the Atomos software will scan the SSD and detect that there is a firmware in it and will start the recovery and upgrade process.

I got an issue where my waveform options aren’t working at all and not even lid up for selection. Anyone has any ideas why this is happening. I’m pairing it with my GH5.

The GH5 should be a problem because the waveforms on the Ninja V are displayed by the HDMI feed from the camera and not by a setting on GH5 .. @@MYTECHREVIEW Thank you so much for replying. I didn't mention that I am also shooting with anamorphic lens. I've come to learn that whenever I select the proper squeeze ratio, in this case 1x33 or 1x25, the option for waveforms greyed out and don't work whenever I apply the anamorphic ratio. Turn it off..I get it back. Strange indeed and I just recently upgrade to the most recent firmware.

you do the update from the sd card but it needs to be formatted on ms-dos .. you can use rufus free software to do that

No idea because there is no setting for that. You can try downloading the latest firmware from here: www.atomos.com/product-support?product=ninja-v ... and update it recovery mode on which I did a video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-58SdZNTBnsY.html .. See if that works.
