You can keep the side panel off not to choke the parts inside .Yea it will get dusty quick but it will be easier to blow out the dust from the pc rather than be worried about the temperatures causing problems in the future .

Thanks! I got one of these 3 years ago, upgraded it 2 years ago, and now I'm just researching if I should do more or just build new, I think I'll build, I want a lot of sata ports and a BIG case for lots of drives.

Always wanted to do this to an old machine put off was the cost of all the upgrade components vs the cost of the initial system. Maybe will do this when upgrading my gaming PC so I can use old parts that are compatible.

I'd love to see a video on the temperatures you came across, I'm actually planning on upgrading 2 Dell computers with the RX 6400 & 6500 XT cards, so it would be good to know how hot it gets inside those SFF computers.

I know it would've meant that you couldn't put additional drives in there but what would just mounting the SSD with that sticky pad to the case and taking out the hard drive cage have improved airflow?

I had a Dell OptiPlex 9020 with an i7-4770, 8GB DDR3, 500GB HDD and Windows 7 Pro. All I had to do is add another 8GB RAM stick, install a 240GB SSD, and install an NVDIA GeForce GT 730 (It was the only graphics card I can afford in a low profile). It was running great with a few simple games and video editing since then. Oh right, The OS I installed was Windows 8.1 (I installed it just to experience it for the next 9 days before it's EOS. I'll upgrade it to Windows 10 after that.)

i have 2 build goals this year, ramming all my old hdds into one efficient mb to be a basic nas and play back 4k movies, I did think i could skip a gfx card but my tv wont play all codecs. 2nd goal a work pc for video editing/exporting and fast arduino compiling because the new 64bit ide seems slower than the 32bit one!

@@cyrilkafari1419 I ended up selling mine and buying a used gaming PC for the same price but with much better specs. I remember from my research that my two options were either to use a low profile graphics card that would draw very little power or to buy a 300 watt proprietary power supply unit and then connect a graphics card externally. Honestly if you can sell it you'll find quite a few used PCs for the same price with better specs and a graphics card.

Some moaners in the comments. I really like videos like this. Not everyone can afford to just splash out on whatever looks great at any price. Sometimes you've barely got enough for any kind of computer so a cheap deal that just gets you online with potential for a few upgrades down the line that'll get you into 1080p gaming, well that'll do the job. I just bought a chromebook for my niece and man that thing can't even play an older racing game but its her first real laptop and she is absolutely over the moon with it. She's only 6 so not quite up to moaning about chromebooks not being real laptops just yet. Point is what looks like a bad deal to you can look like an awesome deal for someone else.

Hey, I wanted to add a graphic card to my acer aspire xc-830 to replace the integrated intel graphics but I don’t have any alimentation in it. My power cable is directly connected to the motherboard and it’s limited to 65w. So can I add a low profile gt 730 or 1030 even if I got no alimentation ?

Which processor ree you on about? If you mean the CPU then no older machines offered CPU and GPU upgrades but they are now soldered on yo the main board nowadays..

the plastic backplate was only double sided taped on, there was no need to remove the metal cpu retention bracket at all
