Be sure to read the description for extra info on where to get the parts needed to do this mod. Big thanks to WAMS (White Automotive & Media Services) and the Harness Dr. for helping me get this installed! www.whiteautoandmedia.com/ harnessdr.com/
I have a question. is it possible to swap the hvac controls for the digital hvac controls. It’s GM part # 84692242. I searched the forums and I’ve seen people do it in their 14-18. Wondering if it’s possible. Looks like it just pops in.
did you ever figure out the heated wheel? or just didn't worry about it? Also does this work on the 4 cylinder? I was curious if it actually reads the Turbo Boost pressure. I was hoping you would pop the throttle to see if it would.
I have a 2022 trail boss refreshed it said on there site that it won't work with the refresh is that because of the single wire harness if you know that would be a big help before I buy?
Beat dam video on RU-vid!!! I do all my work on anything off of RU-vid, lol and this video was as good as him siting right next to you explaining it!!! Great video brother
Thanks to you I was able to replace both my steering wheel and cluster just by watch this video, thanks for making it and showing how easy it is to do!
Using the parts listed, I followed all of the steps to upgrade my 2021 Silverado Custom. No issues except the heated steering wheel function didn’t work. Has anyone run into this? ETA: Thanks for the very descriptive video! Made the process so easy.
Thank you for this video!!!! I wanted to do this for quit sometime and I was always too afraid because it seemed too hard, but with your video you make it look so easy! Thank you
Big ups to you and you detailed instructions, sir! You truly are an awesome individual. I just bought a 2023 Silverado Custom and that cluster and steering wheel will not do. I am going to use your video to make these upgrades soon. If I run into issues, which I hope I don't, I'll be in touch. Thanks again and I'll let you know how it goes👍🏾
Thanks for watching. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. This upgrade is not so easy on the 2022.5+ refresh models. Before you buy anything do a little more research. The wiring is different and doesn’t allow for plug n play like this. Good luck.
@fondupot I looked more into it. I'm new to the truck scene and didn't quite understand what "refresh" meant. Oh, well...maybe there's another option somewhere. Thanks again for the info
I just did the same exact thing to my truck. Only delay was waiting for the cluster to arrive because it was backordered. Took almost two months to get it. Otherwise A++
Not me looking at this video while placing an order to get myself a cluster and a steering wheel up grade for my upcoming 2024 2500 custom trim 😅 great video 😊
Just make sure you contact WAMs to get it programmed before you install anything. I can’t tell you how many people expect an off the shelf cluster to just work without custom programming to match you VIN.
Very nice. I did the same thing to my F150 when I had it. Even got the heated steering wheel to work. I had to buy a module and a harness as well as a new clock spring.
You might be I luck. I think I heard the 2022.5 customs still have the old wiring. You should get ahold of WAMS and check. They can run your VIN and tell you if it will work.
Thanks. Unfortunately there is not a method to activate the heated wheel just yet. WAMS has released a procedure for the 2022.5+ (refresh) models but not the previous years years yet. I have been in contact with WAMS and HarnessDr about it. Trust me if there was a way, I’d have it done already. 👍🏻
Just got done doing this install and it took me 30 minutes just because I watched your video. Thanks! Any chance you figured out the heating steering wheel part?
Glad to hear. I haven’t been able to figure out a way to use the button to pose the heated wheel. Unfortunately it runs thru the BCM somehow. There is a way to bypass it but involves cutting and splicing some wires on the clock spring and inside the steering wheel. And an aftermarket controller and switch would need to be used. I am not brave enough for that yet.
Thanks for watching! Currently the Canyon is in the body shop. My wife had a little fender bender wit the garage pillar. But I do have some Bilstein 5100's laying around that I have been wanting to install on the truck, it's just been hectic lately with work, and moving, and life in general. Finally starting to get back into making videos. So maybe I can get that one done soon. The Canyon is staying around for a while, so it will get some love here and there!
I did a similar install on my 2017 Colorado before it was totaled by a tornado 2 years ago. That’s was my black truck that was on the channel back then.
Looks like a fun job! I know that you have a Canyon but I was wondering if you ever have any plans for an over landing roof rack or a bed rack? Just curious because I look forward to your videos. Thanks Fondupot!
Awesome job! Quick questions, do you need the cluster to get radio controls? Could you achieve radio controls with only a new steering wheel and wiring harness?
Love the video. definitely going to do this upgrade. could you please direct me to where to obtain the steering wheel you got? thanks in advance. You did an awesome job on the install video.
@fondupot Thanks for getting back to me. One last question. My truck is a 2019 custom. Do I have to have the same year upgrade or can get the 2020, or 21 high country cluster and steering wheel?
Let's say I just do the steering wheel with Dr. Harness Mod.first ...will it work for the radio functions? The cluster is a little expensive, but it's worth it later.
Your video was very helpful with the install thank you so much only problem is when i first start the truck up the dash reads check front camera thers is no front camera that i know of
I have a 2021 Silverado Custom that I bought slightly used. It has the nicer DIC with the steering wheel controls already (I assume the previous owner ordered it this way). The rest of my cluster is analog just like your original. I wonder if I could just upgrade the cluster to a High Country without doing the other things that you had to do.
Yes, you can swap your cluster out for a high country one. Contact WAMS to get it. Link in description They will have to program the new cluster to work with your truck.
The wheel was around $200. The rest of the items were sent for free as promotional items. You can check the links in the description for their current price at Harness Dr. and WAMS.
the white auto is over 600$, why is it almost doubles the price of a factory cluster? why not just order the 300 dollar high country cluster? big thanks for the link to the harness, that's a huge help (currently preparing to perform this upgrade too)
Because the WAMS cluster includes programming to your VIN. You can’t just order one and then install it and expect it to work, it requires VIN match programming.
Nice video. I’m following the link for the high country cluster model but the info that is asking me is a little confusing for me. I’m kinda new to this.
I did the same work, but now my radio screen is black out. You listen music, but the screen is black if somebody is able to help I really appreciate it. Thank you.
Wow amazing video thank you for taking the time. I just got a 2023 2500 custom same dash and steering wheel. Do you think these parts would work for my 2023? People keep saying refresh truck and no idea what that mean. Thanks
2500’s are a little different. But the refresh trucks are like 2022.5 and newer. They have a different dash and different wiring. Does your dash cluster look like mine before I upgraded?
Hello yes my dash looks exactly like your dash. It's a 2023 Silverado 2500hd custom. Same steering wheel exactly as well. Hoping wiring will work like yours
You might be in luck. I would send a message to the guys at WAMS and verify tho. And then if they say it works, you order the little wire from harness dr. All the links are in the video description. Good luck
Thank you so much one last question. It looks like your original steering wheel did not have volume control for any ability to pick up or hang up phone calls. Just like mine. Did you have to add another harness for it to sync with the radio head unit? Or is that wire already sitting there waiting. I did notice that other harness that you bought was a 1-wire which I thought only control the dashboard but how do you get the new steering wheel to control the radio volume in Bluetooth Thanks!
@@nathaniel6246 The single wire I added in the video basically allows the new steering wheel to control the radio. I didn't add anything else. My entire install is shown in the video. I don't use bluetooth on my phone so I cant weigh in on that. But all my buttons on my wheel work like they would from the factory.
What stocked radio do you have? I noticed in description is says “In order to Utilize the Music, Navigation (if Equipped) and Phone menus you will need to have an IOS or IOT radio; the IOR does not have the capability to drive those menus.” Mine looks like yours. 7” basic. Is that where the Harness Dr harness comes in play? Harness lets the IOR radio talk to steering wheel?
I have the IOR radio. But my new high country DIC screen doesn’t have the “music, navigation and phone” sub menus. Because the IOR doesn’t support those menus. But the harness doctor enables the steering wheel controls to work.
Not that I know of for OEM upgrades. But there are some aftermarket upgrades for the center screen available. Im testing one now. Hope to have a video out in a few weeks on it.
Did the steering wheel update on my 22 2500hd custom. Everything works except heat option. I have also reasearched extensively and have not found any aftermarket harness/clockspring options. Just wondering if the heated steering wheel circuit is just a straight 12v? If so, why couldn't you just find a switched circuit to tie into and run it up to steering wheel and splice into your heat switch? It seems that the switch isn't getting power...adding a dedicated 12v source should work...correct?
WAMS is telling me they may have a fix available later this year. So maybe just hold out a while. It’s more complicated than just hooking up power cuz it runs thru the BCM.
Great video my friend. But question for you if you dont mind. Can i do the steering wheel swap with the harness adapter to have steering wheel controls without changing the cluster?
Can you just upgrade the cluster without wheel and extra harness if my truck all ready has those functions? I have 21 LT trailboss.. I just love that digital cluster
great video, quick question im looking to just swap out the steering wheel do i also have to install and buy the wire for the cluster? i only want to swap the wheel since i’m a big music guy and it would make life easier just to have it in the back of the steering wheel
I thought this was plug and play, I seen another video similar to yours but he didn’t discuss that extra wire harness. What is that harness for? Thanks in advance.
The extra wire allows the dash to communicate with the buttons on the wheel. You cannot do one without the other. You need everything to make it work. Dash. Wire. Wheel. Others have tried just the wire and wheel and it doesn’t do anything.
Can you add just the steering wheel and get volume control to the radio? Or do you have to get the cluster for that. Because I really just want volume control on my steering wheel.
I’ve gotten this question a few times. So I asked my contact at WAMS and Harness Dr. The answer is we don’t know. There’s another guy who I was messaging with on Facebook who is going to try and we will see what happens.
Hey @fondupot , any update on just the steering wheel being replaced? I just swapped out the steering wheel on my 2021 Silverado Custom and left the original cluster. Controls to the radio not working. Wondering if the cluster needs to be upgraded as well.
You probably need to add the wire. Someone was supposed to do a steering wheel and wire add and let me know if it works to control the radio. Haven’t heard back.
Great video. I have a 22 Custom Trail Boss. Cluster is same as shown in video. Steering wheel has adaptive cruise button which differs from yours. What replacement steering wheel would work for this? How would I figure this out?
Correction - It's not adaptive cruise but the forward collision distance selector. Either way, if anyone has any insights as to which steering wheels with the Forward Collision on the left cluster and the audio cluster on the right side? Thank you!
@Southpaw_Precision is your 22 custom trail boss have the refreshed front grill? If so then it’s a 2022.5 and wont follow this procedure. You’ll have to contact WAMS for the global B architecture upgrade. Even though the dash cluster may look the same the 22LTD and the 22.5 refresh has different wiring.
@@Southpaw_Precision ok then you need to find a wheel from a similar year or a 21. And it has to come with pre-collision. You could get one that has the heat option yet. But I haven’t figured a way to make that work. So that will be a dead button. I don’t know part numbers because they change so frequently.
Tried getting the wheel off with a T50 only using hand tool and long handle ratchet. The screw stripped out because of how hard it is to remove. Now I’m f’ed with a screw that is loose and steering wheel that is loose on the mount. Not good….
When you swapped the cluster did you have to program the mileage on the odometer or did it transfer over from the old one? Need to know before I buy one.
I suggest you read the WAMS product page. It tells you everything you need to know. Mileage is stored outside of the dash cluster so it transfers over. But a new cluster will still require programming specific to your VIN for all the options to work. WAMS does this for you.
Im gonna buy the CLUSTER from WAMS for ny CHEVY 2022 CUSTOM, 2500 HD. Heres is my Question: did they programed for you with the VIN # for the same price or do you have to pay extra for "PROGRAMING" the new CLUSTER?
I think the basic package includes programming to your vin. The extra options are what they charge for. Send them an email and ask tho. I can’t remember exactly.
Great video. I have a 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD custom. My steering wheel does not have the voice control or volume control on the right hand side and I would like to change that and the cluster. Which parts do you recommend for both? I tried to look at the steering wheel, GM part number that you provided and it seems that it’s just a steering wheel without any controls on it. Thanks for the information in advance.
I am going to order a new cluster from WAMS that was just launched yesterday but they are saying that you would have to take it to a GM dealership to program it. I have called 4 dealerships and they will not do it as they say it will void warranty. Who else can do it?@@fondupot
Did you ever have the problem of the fuel range doesn't match up with your previous...just did my swap today and it currently says my range is 530 but normally it's around 380...just filled up
It usually adjusts based on your driving. If you do a lot of highway the range shows a lot more. But if you start doing a bunch of city driving it reduces.
My 2023 work truck is a 2500 and doesn’t have steering wheel controls. Previous 2019 did. You know if I can change the wheel without changing the cluster? I mainly like the volume and phone features of the controls at your finger tips.
Others have reported it doesn’t work without the cluster. Also 2023 has different wiring altogether, so it’s not as easy as swapping in a cluster and wheel.
Unfortunately no. Ran into a roadblock. Will probably require some custom programming to make it work with the OEM buttons. I know it can be wired to run on an aftermarket controller but I don’t think I wanna do that.
There’s a high country cluster like what you see in my video. But there’s also the option of a mid level cluster that has a smaller color screen. Both are upgrades over the basic non-color cluster.
@@jose-yz7le I'll be honest, I am not sure, you'll have to do you own diligence to find the correct part number. I think 2019's have slightly different wiring. Try to find a wheel from a 2019 on ebay to be sure.
I currently have a 2020 chevy silverado custom. Would I be able to upgrade the steering wheel with the radio controls, buy the cable, and just upgrade the cluster with a less high-end cluster like the one below the high country and have the radio controls work? Or does it have to be the high country/denali cluster for the radio controls to work?
@@fondupot I purchased a cluster that was pulled out of a 2020 Chevy Silverado LT Model. Do you think I would be able to use that one to be able to use the radio controls? Or is there a way to find out what type of radio that I have in my chevy?
@@fondupot I have been emailing WAMS and they say that they don’t offer programming for that type of cluster because the programming would cost more than the actual cluster it self
@@fondupot Please if anyone figures this out I would be ecstatic! I have a 2022.5 and as Fondupot mentioned the buttons are not working. I kept the factory cluster (WAMs tells me incompatible), and now all wheel buttons are not working - including cruise even.
Hey boss, if I were to go to you, how much would you charge me to install the steering wheel and digital cluster on my car? Would be for a 2024 gmc sierra
100 million dollars! Haha in seriousness, your truck is a 2024. And this upgrade will not work the same as it did on my 2022 LTD. They changed wiring on 2022.5+ trucks.
How did you remove the side panel on the driver side next to the 4x4 knobs in the beginning of the step? You did not elaborate on how you did that. Thank you.
Do I have to buy a new steering wheel or can I just buy the OEM part and plug it into my steering wheel for the volume up and down and skip track function? I don’t want to upgrade my dash or stock display system.
Hey man, I just saw a post of yours on the coloradofans forum from 2017 and had a question about it, found your youtube channel attached to the post. It regarded a sort of "clunk" shifting into reverse, you described it as being a cause by load on the slip yoke and driveshaft. Anyway, I tried to message you about it on the forum and couldn’t; is there anywhere I could contact you about it?
