Nice, they are still out there and guys in the fb groups talk about getting some smoking deals on them sometimes. Good luck on the search. Thanks for watching.

I saw that bad hose location earlier, glad you got it straightened out. I put a separate trans cooler in the grill and disconnected the lines from the radiator. Also I put a GM rad shroud on the radiator to better focus to air through the rad. Cool B2!
@tackettgarage4982
@tackettgarage4982 3 года назад
Thanks, yeah I should have seen the hose problem coming.haha. Yeah mine has a trans cooler inline to the the transmission lines so mine is going through both the external and internal cooler. A fan shroud will be on my list eventually it works good for now but eventually going to want a bigger engine cause the 2.9 is a little sluggish for my taste. And I’m sure even a 4.0 will need more cooling but I REALLY want a v8 if I can arrange it.

Good advice on changing all the hoses and thermastat etc. the entire system should be changed on these old trucks. My mechanic did a/c work and it caused the hoses to clogg and thermastat stuck resulting in blowing the headgasket now I am chnging out what was a perfectly good engine I had installed just afew years ago.
@tackettgarage4982
@tackettgarage4982 3 года назад
Oh Yikes! that's not good. From what I have read the 2.9 head gasket is definitely a weak spot. Hopefully your next one gets to last a while longer. Thanks for watching!

@@tackettgarage4982 It was the 2.8. so probably the same Im going to have a reman engine put in it. I dont go off roading or anything but later down the line I'd like to keep up with updates on the digital holly EFI add on I think it will help with overheating issues.

So rad to see another guy in ca puttin hard work into a good ol old 2.9! I got an 87' b2 and I'm getting ready to upgrade my cooling system this video is the shit dude! I dont have the budget to drop a ton of $ into a real nice radiator but I plan on grabbing a fresh one and replacing the water pump. Whats your Instagram I'm too curious on recent updates on your rig

Yeah the old girl treated me pretty right. The rad I did was actually pretty affordable if they are still selling them. My Instagram is TackettGarage. But sorry to disappoint but I no longer have the bronco. I put a link to the bumper on the video on here where I did all the front end updates, it was actually on Amazon if you believe it.lol. The next update I was going to do before life took a different turn was a James duff suspension lift, was going to do the dual front shocks because I wanted to eventually try to jump it out in the desert.

For low speed driving you need a fan clutch eliminator and a fan blade with as many blades as possible . Also as big of a radiator as possible .
@tackettgarage4982
@tackettgarage4982 3 года назад
The big radiator I got, the one I put in was massive compared to the original. And the electric fan worked for me with all the trips I took in it, I’m sure the set up you are talking about would be good too. Thanks for watching!

Could you do a vid on all the upgrades you’ve done? Please I got the same one wondering what upgrades I need to travel comfortably
@tackettgarage4982
@tackettgarage4982 3 года назад
Nice, most of the upgrades on mine I have made videos on already, and honestly the only ones that have made raveling more comfortable would probably be this one for the peace of mind that it won’t overheat, and the lights and front bumper for a little extra visibility at night, oh and I guess the stereo too but I pretty much fixed what was done to mine by the previous owners. The other upgrades it has and a home made intake, flowmaster muffler, the 32 inch tires, and the prerunner fender flares. All that probably just made it louder and slower if I’m honest.haha but it looks and sounds cool...and probably the tires help off road quite a bit too.

So I’ve been looking into buying a bronco Ii but a lot of people critique it for being easy to flip over, have you ever had any scares?
@tackettgarage4982
@tackettgarage4982 Год назад
Hey, it was a good toy for us. Personally the only time it was ever remotely close to going over was one of the times I was taking a trail a bit over my skill level. So I would say it was user error on my part and still came out unscathed. On road was never close to felling like it was going over and there were definitely a few time when I probably went in to a turn a little hotter than I should being more used to muscle cars, and it was always good. I also had some wide tires so that may have helped

great video. been thinking about that cool air kit. Is it worth the money? i have a 4.0 radiator and running 160 deg thermostat already. keeps cool.. id like o run a electric fan someday, what bout the shroud? i would think you would need that to locallize the air instead of just gabbing air from inside the engine compartment and radiator?
@tackettgarage4982
@tackettgarage4982 3 года назад
Thank you, which cool air kit do you mean? I kinda pieced it together here and there. The fan is probably the weakest part, it probably would be better to have a shroud to make the fan more efficient, but if you check out the next video I put up Utah or bust, we definitely ran it through the ringer going from riverside area here in California out to Utah in the summer and didn’t end up with any overheating problems even climbing the mountains at like 70mph. I am pretty satisfied with its performance so far. I think the real star was the big radiator.

It was already in it when I got it but I think there is a place called McNeil racing sells them. Try googling bronco 2 prerunner fenders and it should come up.

Where did you mount the electric fan temp switch? Did you mount it in the water jacket?
@tackettgarage4982

Moneyed it to the bracket that held the cruise control on the left side behind the washer fluid bottle.

Oh you mean the actual temp sensor, no it was a probe that went through the radiator fins.

Hey man, I have a 86 bronco with the 2.9L and when I put the cold air intake on the emissions light come on, also when I first turn it on it will sputter for a couple of seconds. Just wondering if there was something I could do about it. It runs perfect with the stock intake.
@tackettgarage4982
@tackettgarage4982 2 года назад
Well I never had the light come on, did you plug the vacuum lines that attached to the stock air box? I plugged mine so that might be the difference. Other than that I can’t think of anything you could be missing.

what electric fan did you use?

@tackettgarage4982 4 года назад
Its a 16 inch fan, but I'm not really sure of the brand. I had bought it from a vendor at a local auto swap meet for very affordable. If I was doing it again I would probably go with either Spal, Flex-a-lite, or Mishimoto to be honest.

The tires are 32x11.5. It doesn’t have a lift, totally stock suspension, they probably only clear because of the prerunner fenders on it.
