I updated from OpenTx to EdgeTx for expresslrs on my Frsky x9d+ 2019. the latest 2.8 does not load properly unless done by dfu. 2.7 works fine though, so I'm running 2.7, I just wanted to fly at that point. maybe I'll update some other day. great video, wish this was around last week when I was struggling lol. edit: my struggle? stm driver didn't load properly for windows 10. but now I know about immersion fix to try. thanks!

Hi Joshua, I always learnt something from your videos, great job. By the way, I wonder if you could advise me something regarding EdgeTX. As per EdgeTX 2.8, we can control power availability for the external UART port available on TX16S via Hardware tab on SYS menu. Now, is there a way that we could somehow assign that function to a switch, so that we can control power availability for an external device attached to the said UART? say like an on-off switch. I have a Bluetooth module installed inside the case of my TX16S acting as a telemetry mirror to my phone, but i want to activate it only when i need it to, instead of staying on draining battery life. kindly need your advice if it can be done..

As always, good informative content. I've watched a lot of your videos and they've always been useful. What I'd like to know is if there is any real advantage to using the radios you use vs Spektrum with a module? I fly everything from helicopters to airplanes to freestyle quads. I use a Spektrum NX8 with Crossfire module for the quads. I also fpv one of my airplanes, an 84 inch Turbo Bushmaster. For someone like me who doesn't really want to mess with the fuss that comes with Open/Edge TX, am I really missing out on anything or am I, like I suspect, perfectly fine with what I run? Have you or do you plan on doing any vids of Spektrum w/module vs the Edge/Open TX radios?

with just a crossfire module I don't think so, but if you were to start using ghost/ELRS and wanted the higher packet rates I'm not sure it's possible without edgeTX. If your current stuff works fine then it probably isn't a necessary upgrade but at some point it will become outdated just like all tech does. Given the mess that is going on with FrSky/EthOS/ripping off ELRS currently its fairly safe to say edgeTX will be the primary OS for all new radios in the coming years (especially now that its being installed as standard by people like radiomaster)

My OpenTX Logical Switches for pre-arm with a momentary and a normal switch didn't work with Edge TX. I had to re-rewrite it and it looks fairly different, but it does indeed seem to work.

On my Jumper T-Lite, buddy.edgetx did not work with my radio plugged in while off. It would flash, but then I couldn’t power on the radio anymore. It would only turn off over and over. Was quite a headache actually because I had issues with my sdcard at the same time. I had to turn on the radio into bootloader mode (press the bottom two middle trim buttons before powering on and keep “Write Firmware” selected) and then, flash firmware. I used EdgeTX Flasher instead this time, but I think it would work with buddy. It’s pretty much the same thing as buddy.edgetx except it’s on your laptop.

So im on 2.6. Companion 2.8 doesn't seem to read for the backup (2.7.1, & 2/6.0 also didnt work to read models). As I followed through the video, I realized I could backup by saving to files from the SD card. The rest went smooth via Chrome/EdgeTX-Buddy. Great video. Will you be doing an update on setting up the radio/models? Are there new settings or does it just look nicer with the graphics layout? (part of me kinda liked the old look better, but maybe im just not used to the graphic layout yet... is there a way to change this look?) Thanks, as always!

Hi Joshua. I have a TX16s which I bought over a year ago and haven't used yet so I've not changed anything and have no models on it, therefore, if I'm correct, nothing to back up or save. Can I simply take out the supplied SD card, insert a new unused card (256mb) and use EdgeTX Buddy as you describe to change from OpenTX to EdgeTX? Thanks!

Did I miss the part where the advantages of Edge TX were discussed? As far as I can see FPV pilots use almost none of the mixing, telemetry and operational features of Open TX. They rely on the flight controller operating system Betaflight iNav or other system to do all the mixing. The transmitter is used for its gimbals and switches, servo trimming, and RF operation. So exactly which features of Open TX are improved for the FPV pilot? The progression from ER9X to ErSky9x to Open TX always resulted in improvements which were valuable: better menus, better choices for switch operation, better telemetry pages, better voice programming ability, better handling of global functions, better radio setup options and better control of mixing functions like delay timers and slow acting mixers. I understand that Edge TX supports touch screens but that is not a compelling feature for most pilots who don't have a radio with a touch screen. So; what's better on Edge TX?

Nirvana NV-14 and likely other TX's may have other sequences to go into DFU mode... The NV-14 has a DFU button but there is also a software sequence to go into "Firmware Update" mode as well. Do some research if just plugging it in doesn't work to get you into DFU mode.

if after Edgetx Buddy copies your files you get a throttle warning on boot you haven't fully copied your SD files, you can do it manually, from your saved files to the TX16S

Hi. I updated my old Teranis X9D to Edgetx and also the internal XJT module. I use the latest firmware from Frsky for the XJT module, version EU LBT, but I can't bind to new receiver G-RX8. Any idea? Wery greatful for help. Regards Lalle

I think that receiver has ACCESS firmware. If so, it cannot bind to the X9D. It can only bind to newer radios that support ACCESS protocol.

On tx16s and Mac os usb to usb C cable do not work. I tried at least 5 different ones. Use a regular full sized usb to usb C and you're good to go.

No issues here with STM32 Bootloader in EdgeTX Buddy on Arch Linux, the driver must be built-in.

Upgraded my radiomaste tx16s from edge 2.6 to 2.91 using the buddy. Radio won't recognize the SD card from the computer and won't turn on anymore. Yay! Should have left things alone. Tried the 3 methods, tried a Mac, tried a windows machine, tried an apex driver fixer, tried the companion, tried rolling it back to 2.6. Tried a previous version of the companion, tried. Got real desperate and tried reformatting the SD card to fat32. Tried taking out the little coin battery and replacing it. 4 hours later, nothing. Very frustrated at the moment.

Yep, it's bricked. Reloaded the bootloader. I have scoured the internet all day and have tried everything. Still won't boot up. Gimbal lights turn on and it sits there clicking, screen off. Ordering a new tx16s now. This was a fun follow along adventure! This will be the last attempt at updating radios.

i have the ELRS jumper t pro and it now ships factory with a latching switch, but anyway when i put it into 1w mode it bugs out and starts arming and disarming the quad repeatedly, as soon as i put it down to 500mw it stops doing it and behaves normally again, anyone ever had something similar? im thinking updating the firmware might help but im hoping i can avoid that

So bro I’ve gotten the sound pack onto my radio but when I turn my radio on instead of it saying welcome to edge tx it says welcome to open tx. Is there anyway to fix this to make it say edge tx or anyway to make it say anything you want??

Yes. There is an edgetx version of the hello/welcome file. Remove the OpenTX version and rename the edgetx one to be what the OpenTX one was named.

Just be careful. I had a fully working Zorro and decided to follow his step by step. Now I have a Zorro that won't recognize internal ELRS, audio greeting/voice warnings gone, and it won't allow ExpressELRS LUA to do anything (just sits there and "thinks" until I back out).

I spent easy 5-6 hours and refreshed my firmware 2-3 times trying to get it to work and your video had it fixed in 20 seconds. Now, I debate: Do I leave it alone since the last flash I put on it was an older version of the Zorro's firmware.... IDK. I am so burnt out on this controller, before you replied I was already starting to just get a new controller (prob TX-16 JB edition). May still get it anyway.

I don't know why it didn't work for you, but it definitely DOES work in Chrome. Like ... If there was one browser on earth it would work on, it would be Chrome. I use Chrome. It works for me. A shit load of people use Chrome.

Why Devs fork OpenTX into a new project Edge TX instead of making OpenTx better ? It makes live complicated. Now i have some old flying gear with perfect setups in OpenTx on my old Taranis X9D and i am thinking of upgrading my new gear to Edge TX but i am afraid then i mess up this old perfect settings and i dont have the time and the brain to redo all these settings and i really dont want to change my System and mess that up, too. Or are those settings identical and can i migrate all that from open Tx to Edge Tx ?

That's the point of the Open tx companion and copying your SD card content to your computer. If it doesn't work right you can go back to your original setup. Everything will be backed up.

@@usurpinesusanti3149 I think it would migrate all settings(from the SD card files ), but if not and it's too much hassle to fix then you could always flash back to Open tx with all your original settings so there's not much risk of losing anything from your original setup.

The reason for the fork is that the people in control of the OpenTX project were too slow and conservative about accepting changes from the edgetx devs. The edgetx fork means the edgetx devs can be in control of the project and can move when they want, in whatever direction they want. Opentx is free to merge any changes from edgetx that they want to include.

@@JoshuaBardwell yes, thanks. Thats why i want upgrade to Edge, too. Just i am worried about loosing my settings from my old gear. Eg. i have a very old helicopter (huge one with >>6m diameter) which is so complicated and dangerous if you make something wrong. Its really not a toy like a nazgul drone where you can just switch some blades or replace an arm when you smash it into a tree or loose it by not watching at it a few milliseconds. On the other hand i dont want to buy yet another Radio, the better ones are quiet expensive, just because i want all options edge can offer and open TX not. But waiting foreever is a pain, like you said. I really thougth they will come soon or later but there is no soon. Its more a later or never.

PSA: I have a jumper t pro, and no matter what I do when I convert from open TX to edge TX I lose all my models and I don't get the conversion screen to convert the bin to y a m l. If anybody has a solution that's not reconfiguring all my models I'm all ears. I'm going to try the eprom trick

Save otx file in OpenTX companion. Open in Edgetx companion. See if that works.

Mine says "open tx" but shows the words edge tx not all radios are the same

It just means you've still got the opentx SD card contents. Someone updated the radio to EdgeTX, but not the SD card.
