Wow... Flashback. I had 2 of the sparkomatic 8" bass cannons when I was 16. My neighbor helped me build a box for them. That made them sound a lot better.
My comment on Rockville. I have 2 Rockville Amplifiers, I had them 5 years. They sound good, and I haven't had any problems with them. I have had Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony US Acoustics, Coustic by MTX. All those Amplifiers I have had sound good.
Ive got a realistic bass cannon I stuck a cerwin vega 10 in and hooked to a Punch 250 and a 400 watt kenwood 5 channel flip face with infinity kappa highs sounds pretty good and totally looks like its been in my 88 mustang convertible since the early 90's
The only reason for a tube with its mandatory mounting hardware is it allows for cheap thin wood construction, I had an skar ix10 kicking around so I build a box out of .75 mdf and give the combo to a friend. I give skars recommendations a try and built it to the recommended volume tuning and port dimensions. I built it small and long like 11 wide and 14ish tall so the port could exit right below the driver. It was kinda shaped like a tube enclosure but square. He hooked it an audio control 5 channel amp he got for a super deal and he instantly loved it. I tried it in my van before I delivered it and I was also impressed by its performance especially for 200w sub and compared to the performance it had q logic truck box I had it in when it was in my pickup. I will say skar was spot on with there recommendations, I never use those ever and well I don't have those when I build big subs.
I had 2 Bazooka bass tubes, and 1 Collins super bass tube, in the past. I like the Collins super bass tube the best. The Rockville bass tube remind me of the Collins tube, by the way the vent looks on the rear.
I'm in the middle ground of car audio, too!!! Just a solid install , some noise reduction and a nice deep clean 12 sub. But I'm always experimenting with different setups in my cars. I give away the cheap stuff to the kids in my school!
My brother bless his heart, went through all the wiring and setup to put the rockville sub/box/amp kit in his 4D wrangler. Much as I scoffed at it, with a decent pioneer HU juicing the stock fronts & rears it wasnt all that bad. He likely wont upgrade, but the path is clear to do so at least.
Always been a fan of tubes. Used many different bazzoka ones both oasice and self amplified over the years. i had a realistic tube i got for free since the amp was burnt out. Found a 40 dollar urban audio amp to deive it and it worked reasonably well
I had 4 10 inch SAS Bazzoka tubes on 2 punch 150s in a Tahoe and got to be honest. It was Crucial!! Of course this was in 91 !!!! Dam im getting old lol
Rockville wouldn't be that bad if they'd just rate their equipment honestly. I've been running rockville Marine speakers and they are great for my application. Definitely get what you pay for as far as their amps and subs.
I appreciate you doing stuff like this. I have a Rockville DB15 amp that's rated at 6k watts max, but knew it would not get even close to that. It's hooked up to a 500 watt Magma 12 and sounds great to me.
Back in the day I got one of those Bazooka Bass tubes and took out their crap 10 inch woofer and put in a Polk Audio woofer and folks thought I was running two 12" subs. I even won a car audio contest for my power class as I went with all Polk Audio speakers and had Rockford Fosgate Punch 200 4 ch and a AutoTeck 300 amp driving the sub. I won on the clarity of the sound quality as those 2 or 3 inch dome titanium tweeters practically made the system as they sounded so life like. Plus I had a Zapco preboard along with some other goodies. In fact I still have that Bazooka bass tube today now added to my home audio system.
i have the 12 and put it on breakaway plug(3 pin boat motor connector) slips in and out of my hybrid easy to make more space. maybe doesnt hit spec but does shake the mirrors well enough. great vid as always.
I don't remember the brand but my first bass experience was a 8 bass tube! Came with a huge bass knob too! Ended up smoking the sub. Took out the circuit board amp and used it to power 1 12 for a while till I added a real amp or something...ahh good times.
Thanks for reviewing big D I knew that plate looked familiar! Totally forgot you had tested one before. Glad to see you doing some real-world simulation of this kind of stuff in da Ford! Keep the good stuff comin big D
I got one of these from seismic audio with an amp kit for 60 bucks a year ago. I hooked it up to a small lightning audio amp I've had laying around and bumps just enough to sound good without overdoing it.
If someone has that Rockville bass tube, and you don't like the way it sounds. Take the amplifier out, replace it with a black plexiglass panel, add terminals to it. Replace the subwoofer with a more powerful one, and hook it up to a separate amplifier with more power.
I remember buying a RE Audio SX18 years ago and some random dude from a car audio group who knew how to build enclosures drew me up a subwoofer enclosure spec and needless to say it definitely got low, after I took it out the Durango cause the Durango started having issues I put it in my room I was in which was smaller than my current room and used it in a home theater setup it was jank but it worked!
I had 10" kicker bass station back in 98 in hatchback 92 geo storm gsi and it was stupid good. I replaced it with 2 kicker competition 15" in ISO configuration and never looked back. Both setups were running off the same amp kicker zr360. That amp sounded so good. I killed it when I forgot to put the top back on the power distribution block and it slid over and touched the outside of the amp. DOH! I still the shame to this day.
After seeing this, It would be interesting to see an amp dyno and review of an 8” or 10” powered Bazooka Bass tube. I had a pair of the 6.5” passive Bazooka Bass tubes back in the day. They were ok.
Btw folks, help Big D out and watch the entire ads before and during the episodes. Ad watches help. Not sure on the ads afterwards though. Not even sure if the content creators know.
Yeah man. Everyone didn't just start out with the SUPER BASS BUILD.... Remember when you got your first subwoofer installed... !!!!! Love your movie inserts.... THIS IS NOT A MICKEY MOUSE PROGRAM! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It is a steal of a deal a little pop for pop❤ love you dude just do not go Def by 60 😂. It's very easy, normal, on the ears, a sweet music road trip with no fears of ah what did you say where's my hearing aid 😂❤
I had an old "Shack" Optimus 8" bass tube, and some Infinity kappa 6x9s in my Hyundai back in the day. Well until it was all stolen. They busted my passenger window, and took my shit. Along with a crate of CDs. Miss that stuff.
For what they are they sound better than nothing and for the price you can't beat that I remember way back it seemed everyone was running one of these and you had to get your own amp separately
Not powered, but the alpine swt-12s4 seems like the best deal over here, 70eur (77usd). 12 inch sub with 300w rms rating. Brother had one and it was surprisingly fine, wont win any spl or sq contests but fine.
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. BEEN MEANING TO LET YOU KNOW ABOUT NOCOPYRIGHTSOUNDS IF YOUR WANTING TO SWITCH YOUR MUSIC UP WITHOUT COPYRIGHT ISSUES. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK!😁😁
A lot of Rockville's stereo equipment fall in to that category of not to bad at all specially the dj stuff or pro audio. Prices are great. Kinda the harbor freight of car audio. Only issue I've ever had with them is them strait up lieing on specs and calling everything they sell as certified rated. There targeting beginners in the audio field. But that's not the only audience that buys from them. Tell the truth Rockville, bet your sales increase.
I had a Bazooka bass tube in my car once upon a time and every time I turned up the radio it smelled like hell, mice had crawled through the port and built themselves a stinky mansion of a nest inside of it.
I would of liked to see you do a review of the 12” model of that . Max has a nice looking 8” tube I see on eBay. I bought a Roadmaster 6.5 recently different from the one you had for $30 , and I bought a Pyle passive 12” tube for 70 I don’t need them they more more as wants they were a good price
My brother just recently got a MTX bass tube. It bumps decently. Surprised it was 120w RMS for $160. I always just looked down on the tubes but was never really sure why?
Is there a more powerful module that could be inserted? A speaker and amp swap could net a good gain? I loved my 2- 10" bass tubes with Pioneer subs. The tubes came with cheap subs.
I have had this exact bass cannon in my experience the amp did not like being ran hot and heavy for over an hour it would just cut out for thermal reasons
i had the 12inch version. maybe at full tilt was 100 watts. i tried mounting at different angles in my trunk. it put out some bass but compared to a decent 10 on 250rms it fell flat.
Wish you can do a test with a house home theater subwoofer with like a 400 W inverter just how I have it set up on my jeep I promise man you would me like holy Jesus I didn’t know this was possible well it is until you try it
Just wondering if the power is the same wired high level or RCA. Also back in the 90s I remember getting my 1st Alpine with 4v preouts and how much louder it was with the increased voltage to the RCA.
