Thanks man! Your video helped walk me through step-by-step to add 2 8GB memory sticks. Crazy part about this is (I purchased this as a used laptop with 6GB memory and DVD player would not open or work) and when I was trying to pull out the DVD player, (like you showed I ended up somehow breaking off the 3 DVD mount screws) and the left side of my laptop shot out a ball of sparks with a sizzling noise TWICE! I'm thinking to myself, oh man I just fried my new/used laptop. So I did a quick prayer and kept going thru the motions to upgrade my RAM. Ended up losing several other screws, some plastic tab pieces broke off and some type of tiny hex nut fell out of somewhere. So I get the RAM installed and put everything back together and hit the power button and amazingly it booted up and worked perfectly fine without any issues. The craziest part of all is that now the DVD player now opens and works just fine. So great video man! I still don't know where the hell those sparks came from.

Thanks for video. nice work. But damn could they not have made it a little more simple. I know i know it is not that hard, but still i hate having to remove all this and the keyboard, i just got a Lenovo myself.

From the existing list of video tutorials for P500 yours was by far the most detailed. Unfortunately, you did not include a battery swap. So, I learned it as I went along. May I suggest using zoom in at certain parts of your presentation? Otherwise, good show.

Just in case nobody's mentioned this since you upgraded this machine … you can use a magnetized screwdriver these days. Magnets were problems for floppy disks back in the day, and strong ones (like in speakers that weren't shielded) were bad for CRT monitors … but nothing inside your PC these days is going to be afraid of a little magnet in your screwdriver. Ifixit's screwdrivers are all magnetic, for example, and their smaller ones are strong enough to pick up the screw you're taking out.
