How to fix or repair an office or study chair.
This office, desk or study chair from the German brand Wilkhahn is over 30 years old.
It is a quality chair and is in good condition but needs a service.
The piston and the wheels work fine, but the fabric would have to be replaced.
We start by cleaning the wheels and grease them with Vaseline, the rest of the bearings with lubricating oil.
We clean the metal parts with a metal cleaning liquid.
We are going to change the fabric, which is not the original, for this other gray one.
We unscrew and remove the padded piece.
We carefully remove this fabric, reaching the original.
We are going to make the seat more soft by adding foam rubber. We glue it in pieces in this way with contact glue.
It will be wedge shaped towards the back.
We cut with scissors to equalize the height and chamfer the edges.
We glued a layer of fiber on top.
We measure and cut the fabric.
We also cut a small piece that we will use to sew the lower back.
We glue it and mark it to know where we have to make the seam. We help ourselves with a needle to make the mark on the back.
We glue with the same glue and sew the slits at the ends with thick polyester thread. This will ensure the subsequent tensioning of the fabric.
We place the backing fabric, it is done with glue from the center to the ends.
To reinforce the backrest we are going to sew 5 stitches, we do it with the same sewing process of the lumbar area.
We try that these are symmetrical or form a drawing, we help ourselves with some pins.
We finish the back area, stretching the fabric well and finishing with glue and staples.
Same process for the seat part, in this one, the tensioning is more important.
Once the glue is dry, we cut the excess fabric.
We put the padded piece back on the chair, screwing it well.
We glue this cable to cover the damage in the upper part.
And ready! This is the result.
Chair like new for a few more years.
