HOW TO URA MAWASHI GERI (HOOK KICK) 🥋⛩ 

~ Kihon, Kata, and Kumite ~ In order to be a complete martial artist one must practice the 3 K’s. The basic techniques will teach strong fundamentals. The forms will train mind, body, and spirit. The sparring will allow one to put the training into reality. Karate kumite has been misinterpreted as playing tag or low level sparring. I don’t buy into that stereotype anymore. It is how you train your karate that makes it special or effective. I will admit some schools only practice point sparring with the end goal of winning trophies or medals. I practice with a budo mindset and train for life. These sharp and precise techniques often found in karate sparring are meant to be one hit one kill (ikken hissatsu) which is basically the idea of the perfect technique. Although this does not always translate into real combat, often taking more than one strike to subdue an opponent, it is an ideal or end goal to strive for. One shot to end a fight or subdue an assailant. Expect the best, but prepare for the worst. OSS, Jason 🥋🔥💯⛩

Thank you very much for teaching, I'm a yellow belt and at the dojo where I train I have a lot of difficulty doing the Ura Mawashi.

What type of stretching drills did you implement in order to kick that high? Likewise, I’ve been stretching 80% of the time before my karate classes and unfortunately still cannot kick that high. If you could provide me some stretching drills and that would be great thank you.

8:50 I guess left hand can be used to create counterforce/balance the kick since your head is fully out of opponents reach during the kick and when pulling kick back hand comes right back to protect immediately. Im big advocator of counterforce since Ive done many sports in my life (includin 3 different MA) and all of them use counterforce. Actually I cant figure any sport that it wouldnt be useful to use counterforce. Its a must for "perfection" of an act and must be understood (or at least do it without being conscious about it) to get beyond intermediate level of any sport. Unfortunately I see many people who are unaware of this but everyone can learn new things and those who know can teach those who are interested.

in a real fight in the street or even in kumite, one might not be able to do that because of the movement of attack. when one Attack by punch, as shown, the other hand will come next, and it might be a fast 123 punches or just a punch and a bulldoze.

Whilst this is a good demo of this kick, I think it's useless, reason you are giving your back to opponent, and left open to an easy sweep, so if you fail to get this bang on , you are in deep trouble with an aggressive fighter, plus you are attacking closed side and good chance the kick is non effective and will brush off.

But karate is not sport martial arts is .vkf is don't worked from real situations in steet fight.
