Try to watch the whole video, so you don't miss anything, but here is an index for you: - Geometry, 3D models 1:10 - Surfaces, textures and materials 9:56 - Lighting in 3D 17:24 - Rendering 24:15 - Animation 26:26
Hi, the materials setting no longer apply to Photoshop 2020 and now I am stuck. Where are the Diffuse, Specular, Illumination and Ambient please ? :) Many Thanks
Hi, thanks for the details for each topic. In your bottle example, what if you had the lettering in your texture, but you took away the black background in the texture. I believe you would have a bright green label with white lettering. In your example, you have green in the diffuse. I want no green just white letters. how do I achieve this? I am new so I could be missing something. Any guidance would be great. Thanks in advance.
Why is your professor teaching you how to 3D model in photoshop? They probably can’t explain it well because it’s absolutely ludicrous to model and render in photoshop. If this is something you’re interested in please look into Cinema 4d and if your computer can handle it Maya. Also zbrush is a fantastic 3D modeling program if you have a touch screen laptop. as an old head in graphic design modeling etc make sure to note unless your teacher has a notable portfolio and is known for their work make sure to always keep doing what you’re doing now find your own inspiration and your own teachers. By teaching yourself you’ll build a foundation better than anything you’ll ever learn in school. Also one last thing to mention, I have been using photoshop for work for almost 10 years now in the Bay Area. At this point it’s considered almost primitive and if you’re only learning photoshop you will have trouble finding jobs in the future unless u have Picasso levels of talent. I highly suggest becoming a pro at Adobe Illustrator, After Effects, and a 3D modeling program like the ones I mentioned above. Also many companies for some reason request for their photos and documents to be edited and created in horrific programs like Canva, Face tune etc so sadly you will have to learn those too. I recently had to alter my career and get into short video editing as apps are all requesting those little Tik tok video templates. Sorry for writing a lot you just seem young and it really irked me that your teacher is wasting time teaching such a useless tool for this program which leads me to think they are not telling you the truth about the industry. Also!! Lol one last thing make sure you research the city you live in job available etc. I had to relocate from Chicago to Los Angeles and later San Francisco as the Midwest only requests very generic graphic design & 3D modeling for the most part, have a small pool of well paying positions vs west coast and places like New York City have endless number of positions. I hope this random info somehow aids you in yo ur journey. No one told me any of this and I had to learn it all on my own. I wish you the best of luck with your studies! 🍀
At around the 12:34 mark you stop explaining what you're doing. You just start clicking tools and pressing buttons without explanation. Up until that point this was an excellent tutorial, but as an absolute beginner I have no idea what you're pressing or how you're accomplishing what you're doing on screen.
He is using CTRL + T to resize. Bro, this is a beginners tutorial for 3D workspace in photoshop, NOT a beginners tutorial to photoshop. You need to start with basics before moving into 3D.
Maya, huh? I'd love to try it, but right now, my retirement income is steering me towards Blender! LOL Really enjoyed this one, Colin! No worries, you didn't lose me at all! I've been using 3D apps such as Poser and DAZ for a long time, and have done some experimenting with the 3D capabilities in PS. Using all of them together is too much fun, and the results are amazing. I need to do more with Photoshop's 3D, and your tutorial will help a lot! Two thumbs-up, and of course... Like button = dust!
Maya really is the next level for 3D in my opinion but It is quite expensive indeed! The only reason i'm able to use it at all is because i'm a student and students get Maya for free. But Iv'e heard great things about blender, iv'e only used it a bit myself but it can also produce some pretty amazing things.
Cant understand what you are saying...what's "just alt rrrrrr something backspace.........?" 1:35 I want the shortcut to turn the background the selected colour (A rusty CS6 user on 2020) - UPDATE: just wasted 20 mins searching lots of wastful information to discover to use shift F5 - other than that nice tutorial thanks
Thank you! I learned more in the first 4 minutes of this video then I have in the last weeks looking for just instructions on how to use Adobe adobe 3D. You are very clear, concise, and well thought out! I'll be looking for your other videos, and sharing them with my other friends who are interested in 3D modeling.
PSA - so people don't run out and grab a subscription of photoshop just for 3D stuff, they removed all of these features. I have current version of Photoshop. I don't think the term "3D" appears anywhere on the UI anymore period.
I am having problems with materials. When I add a graphic to sit on top and make the material clear plastic my decal disappears with the material. I want the material to be clear plastic and the image on it to be solid with a clear background. Think thick CD or DVD with the image on the flat disc, not the edge. The image is white with a smoke-like look and solid white text. Hole knocked out of the middle, very similar to a CD. Another way to look at it is how do you put the letters on the bottle without the black box label. Just solid white letters or logos with not rased area like this vid. Just getting started with 3D this was helpful but I need more. Thanks for this vid and all you do for the community.
Excellent tuto, very well explained, thanks. but my computer keeps crashing whenever I try to modify texture color. It also crashes if I go in UV properties and change something. I point out that my computer is VERY powerful though! Pfff Can't use 3D.
Is it only me, but when I'm in the 3D photoshop mode the app often crashes. Also when I render I've been getting weird mixed transparent layers? Using a 2019 iMac with 72 GB of ram, PS 21.1.1.
An exceptional tutorial, yes Colin! every time I learn new watching your tut; keep it up. what is the difference b/w save as vs rendering? any way thankyou.
Thank you for this tutorial. I was kind of scare trying to do something on 3D. But I think I will challenge my self since it can help me with Pr and Ae. It was very clear the way you show step by step. I do appreciate your videos and your valuable time.
Super helpful, easy to follow and well thought out video! Thank you so much for sharing with us the basics of how to create/animate 3D objects in Photoshop.
Please tell me that when i render the image the colour are totally different... they are not the same colour which i have applied... please tell me why this is happening is there any setting or something to change?
Colin: Have been waiting for an understandable tutorial on 3D for my high school graphic design students and now I've finally found it! Thank you so much. I will be adding this along with all of your other stuff that I already use starting this fall.
wow! I am indebted to you for this tutorial...seriously I have been searching for someone to explain this clearly. This is only place I can find any information on especially the lighting and animation meshes...Have you done an update to this? tyvm
Another fantastic video Colin but I’m sorry you didn’t show the final product. What does it look like when rendered? Can it be added to a photograph? Thank you again
I found it useful enough to subscribe and come back. Well done nicely executed rich with content light on opinion. Most excellent general introduction on a beginners level where I'm coming from. Thank you very much
Can you alter the 3-d object inside of Photoshop? Meaning - if I were making a house and simply wanted to place a pitched roof on a rectangle house. My Objective: I'm trying to create a 2-d, desktop game map and I want to place several houses down and get them all to perfectly match the same perspective. Will paint in details later on flat image.
12:24 How did you create this black background ? Photoshop doesn't seem to allow the user to paint a blackground. I've been only able to create a black shape, the result is the same. but what if i want something different ?
How do you enable/disable the mini picture in the top left hand of the work area and the axis indicator in the actual object? They aren't showing up on mine.
Colin - Really this is the possibly the best "How to" training in ANYTHING I've done w/ Adobe programs! I used to do illustrations back in early iterations of Dimensions (which Adobe turned largely into a packaging mockup tool, much to my disappointment.) Anyway thanks so much for helping to explain this interface in PS 2020
This one is so easy to understand the icons and items we got here in photoshop! while I easily work with 3DSMAX, it was so hard for me to understand PS 3D UI, but this video enlightened me! Really Appreciate It! ;)
Can anyone please help me. Hitting undo breaks the connection between the 2d texture and the 3d model. After that, I edit the texture the model doesn't update. If I edit the model that texture no longer updates. According to hours of searching, this is a known bug and has been around for over 5 years. I cannot work like this. WTF
Hi Colin, thanks very much for this. I was hoping to add two objects into a scene to allow me to see the reflection of one in the surface of another,.. I gave up as it didn’t seem to be possible. Is photoshop 3D intended for a single object would you say?
The best overview for beginners !!! I use Blender for complex scenes and animations. But for simple 3D/parallax things (especially for photos) is a nice addition the Photoshop's 3D tools. A real timesaver. Keep up the good work !
This was super helpful! Your explanations were really clear ! We are trying to do a project and wanted to manipulate our 3d imported object in photoshop and create a little animation but didn't know if this was possible. Thanks for your video !
